Where a finite-minded leader sees fast growth as the goal, the infinite-minded leader views growth as an adjustable variable.
Simon explains why focusing on long-term objectives rather than just quarterly achievements can lead to more significant and enduring success. He emphasizes the role of teamwork, the importance of leadership development, and the need for a continuous learning culture within organizations.

  • The Army has always had this Leaders Reaction Course as well. It's all about watching how some performs as a leader. It's about observing them perform steps of leadership and planning and a little bit of time to execute the plan. We give Soldiers an objective to distract them knowing that they need to work as a team to see who emerges as a leader. Or we tell someone they're the leader so we can observe how they lead.

  • The key to leadership success isn't mission outcomes , it's developing leadership skills.

  • Hi Simon, I realised recently that the Infinite Game applies more directly & meaningfully in office politics rather than quarterly or annual business results. Could you explore how the Infinite Vs the Finite game applies to office politics? Thanks.

  • To run a good marathon you need to meet every mile mark with a planned time, this way you know that you go according to your plan and your pace.

    • I think a core difference is the fact that a marathon runner still has very very clear goals that can be hit compared to a business. I think a more apt comparison is an endless run through unknown terrain with unknown obstacles; which runner will last the longest? The one who is running as fast as they can hitting arbitrary times they set per mile, not caring about hydration, comfort or health. Or the runner who is fine with walking at some points, maybe enjoying the scenery sometimes and taking care of themselves? Just like Simon says, you can't win business. You just have to keep running as far as you can, in constantly changing and sometimes unknown terrain. You cannot run through it like a race, you will exhaust yourself.
