How to make Glenfiddich whisky: Daily Planet goes to Scotland

2015 ж. 30 Қар.
804 650 Рет қаралды

Glenfiddich of Dufftown, Scotland, is one of the last family-run single malt whisky distilleries - churning it out for almost 130 years. Launched in 1887 by William Grant, a maverick of his time - today, the process remains largely unchanged and the same passion is passed down to generations of craftsmen. Daily Planet gets a taste of what it takes to makes the “water of life”.

    • Glenfiddich 12 is just not for me. It's too spicy. I never picked up the scent of pear in Glenfiddich 12 but did it in Glenfiddich 18 despite it being more of the smell of an apple.

  • I was born in Dufftown in 1956, so I'm a year older than that 1957 cask of whisky. Dufftown stands on the river Fiddich, a tributary of the river Spey, So Glenfiddich gets it's name from the river Fiddich, the river of the deer.

  • What's so awesome about the 15 especially is that it's from their "solera cask/vat". Which is where they add the 15 year old whiskey to a very large container, then fill bottles until the vat is about half and repeat. So some of the whiskey in there could be much older than 15 years. Very interesting!

    • @@buffdogg It's certainly a huge jump up from Glenfiddich 12. It's also very reasonable pricing for an 18-year-old, so in all senses, I think it will be well worth it.

  • Precisely, Mr Mike Dawson: Whisky is but about TIME. It is the TIME (no less than 3 years of maturation in Scotland in oak casks) that makes a Scotch Whisky to become THE REAL SCOTCH WHISKY. A world apart from any other kind of liquor. Indeed, time is also an important factor in the making of many other categories of alcohol drinks: wine, rum, or the various types of brandies. But all of these lack the Balance of the Genuine Scotch Whisky. The art and the craft of the Scotch whisky making is as precise as the watch making. In William Gran's in particlular. Unique and about time. It reminds one of the book by the world-famous black hole scientist Stephen Hawking ' A Brief History of TIME'. A Timepice. A clockwork. The best balance of TIME, QUALITY, and AVAILABILITY to many consumers around the globe. and there is MORE. Larger than life.
