Glenfiddich of Dufftown, Scotland, is one of the last family-run single malt whisky distilleries - churning it out for almost 130 years. Launched in 1887 by William Grant, a maverick of his time - today, the process remains largely unchanged and the same passion is passed down to generations of craftsmen. Daily Planet gets a taste of what it takes to makes the “water of life”.

I got a bottle of Glenfiddich 12 year old form my wife on my Birthday a few weeks ago,life is good,cheers.

Glenfiddich 12 is just not for me. It's too spicy. I never picked up the scent of pear in Glenfiddich 12 but did it in Glenfiddich 18 despite it being more of the smell of an apple.
I was born in Dufftown in 1956, so I'm a year older than that 1957 cask of whisky. Dufftown stands on the river Fiddich, a tributary of the river Spey, So Glenfiddich gets it's name from the river Fiddich, the river of the deer.
What's so awesome about the 15 especially is that it's from their "solera cask/vat". Which is where they add the 15 year old whiskey to a very large container, then fill bottles until the vat is about half and repeat. So some of the whiskey in there could be much older than 15 years. Very interesting!
This place was awesome, loved being in Dufftown as well...
Thank you Scotland for coming up with this stuff. Life saver. Liquid gold. My favorite Glenfiddich is the 18 YO but to be honest I haven't had the chance to taste any older expressions as of yet.

I've only had the 15 as I haven't got my hands on the 18 yet. is it noticeably better than the 15?
@@buffdogg It's certainly a huge jump up from Glenfiddich 12. It's also very reasonable pricing for an 18-year-old, so in all senses, I think it will be well worth it.

Whiskey is definitely about personal taste, I’ve tried the 12yr, 15yr, 18yr, 30yr n I think they made a smokey flavoured 21yr but 15yr is the best 4 me, simply outstanding n I’ve never tasted better!!

Harry Zimmerman I’ve only had the 12 year old because here in Australia it’s very expensive it ranges from the 12 year old which is $60 up to the 50 year old which is $48,000.

Yeah, the Glenfiddich 18 is the best 18 year old I’ve had so far, Including that offered by Glenlivet - so much going on, complex and so moreish, plus at about £65 a bottle it’s also a lot cheaper than the other main distillers 18 year olds and gets better and better as you get down the bottle

@@milanhenegamage3576 Jack Daniels? Can't even compare it to the big dogs here. JD is for the stereotypical drinker sounding posh. The real posh are the whiskeys mentioned above. And only Gentleman Jack is somewhat liked by me

My sons and I like to try distillers we have not tried before. Picked up a bottle of 12, 15 and 18 (only ages store had). Looking forward to blind tasting them.
Seriously what a wonderful job to work at a distillery that produces most delicious and wonderful whiskey.wish I could be part of it.I have tasted the 12 and 18 year old the taste is very fruity with Honey.

Wiki might be wrong. The Gaidhlig word for deer is fèidh. The local river name is Fiodhach so I suspect it's named after the latter. Uisge-beatha, Slainte !

One impressive thing about this is that, for an 18 year-old for example, they have to figure how much they can sell in 18 years and make that much today.

Hello everyone. It looks like I have Glenfiddich from 1941. Special Reserve. Does anyone know what would be the price for this one?

@@ARCSTREAMS you should improve your math 😆 😂 because it is rather 75.000 litres per day. Also note that bottles made for the European market only contain 0.7 litre 😉
you are correct i made a mistake and it should have been 75K liters if all of it was for western market only ,so somewhere between 70 to 75k a day almost 20k gallons,,still crazy and impressive
Yeah, that's an absurdly high number. Maybe they meant 100,000 per week (or more likely) per month.
The 12 year old is the Whisky that woke up a Pashion for Whisky, for that i am very greatful, it blew my Mind that Whisky could be so much better then the "Whisky" i knew from my Teenage years.(that sounds way worse then it is)

Can't understand your writing when you forget full stops at the end of sentences, put full stops where they don't belong, put 'is' when it should be 'are', should be I wish not just wish, and forgetting to put capital letters for name of places such as, Distillery.

No. A day. You have to remember they sit for over 18 years some of them.
You are right ! They produce a little over 1 million litres a year which is even mentioned on their site .
@@thedarkside3178 I take it you've been round the glenfidich factory on one of their open days? You can count the production yourself. I live in the uk I drink single malts I visited the site, dont claim what you say is facts if you haven't visited mate.
