I dislike Alves as a player and Barcelona as a team but Alves in terms of quality was miles above Marcelo. Marcelo only managed to play because he was very good at crossing and dribbling but defensive-wise he was and is a disaster. Most of the humiliation and defeats Real has got have been from Marcelo's awful positioning, especially the 2-3 El Clasico in 2017 was Marcelo's fault that Barca scored at the last minute and the 2011 semi final which Barca won 0-2.

I dislike Alves as a player and Barcelona as a team but Alves in terms of quality was miles above Marcelo. Marcelo only managed to play because he was very good at crossing and dribbling but defensive-wise he was and is a disaster. Most of the humiliation and defeats Real has got have been from Marcelo's awful positioning, especially the 2-3 El Clasico in 2017 was Marcelo's fault that Barca scored at the last minute and the 2011 semi final which Barca won 0-2.
