  • Great story, gorgeous photography and costumes, masterful direction and of course, superb acting. People praise mostly Comer and Driver's performances (no doubt they are great in the film) but I was really blown away by Matt's performance playing a grim, rough, furious, almost barbaric character, very unlike his personality and most of the roles he has been playing throughout his career. Ben Affleck does also a fantastic job. The truth is, the whole cast of this movie is top notch. A very powerful film.

    • @@potatokilr7789 Ridley said that was intentional as he wanted the audience to recognize who was who in the fight. Of course, the audience would know anyway if you made each helmet distinct enough.

      @youbian@youbian2 жыл бұрын
    • @@youbian I feel like he could have done something else to approach this issue. For example, we see in the trailer that the helmet visor gets lifted during part of the fight. Why not just have it up for the emotional parts and put it down for the most intense action (such as the lance fight)? Doing so with a full visor would not only be practical, but realistic and historical, as many fully-armored knights/soldiers would lift their visors during one-on-one fights for better visibility, only lowering their visors when taking arrow fire or facing high-level threats. It could also be argued that showing the face is not necessary. There are plenty of characters who convey emotion even without showing their faces (most of the time). Some examples of such characters can be found in acclaimed films and video games such as Star Wars (Darth Vader, Din Djaren/The Mandalorian), Halo (Master Chief, Noble Six, Emile, Rookie) etc. Adam Driver also played a role in Star Wars which involved his face being covered for half of the film.

  • Just finished this movie. Wow! First Gladiator, then Kingdom of Heaven, and now The Last Duel. Ridely Scott kills it when it comes to making epic films set in Ancient and Medieval periods. In my opinion, Pierre is the real villain of the story. He always looked down on Jean and favored Jacques so much that he's basically nothing without Jacques. He's mainly the reason Jean and Jacques turned from friends to enemies. As for Jean, I liked how he always did what he thought was right and just even when no one else thought so. I liked how Jacques tried his best to maintained his friendship with Jean while still being loyal to Pierre even though that was impossible to do. Truly, another one of Ridely Scott's masterpiece. May God be with him on his next project.

Only thing I didn't like about it is the fact they replay the same event three times in a row each from a different perspective. I would have liked it better had they added in little more details of this event leading up to the duel instead.
