    • @@mr.brightside6576 ring magazine isn’t “officially” recognised as a world title by the governing bodies, but whoever holds the ring magazine title is UNIVERSALLY RECOGNISED (by boxing fans, analysts etc). as the “people’s champion”. The concept of the “Ring magazine title” is to enable the fans to recognise a world champ as world champ, WITHOUT the influence of any governing body, giving fans the POWER to collectively decide who is the best fighter in the world (instead of letting some governing body decide on their behalf). This makes sense, because technically any group of individuals can come together to create a “governing body” and then use it to create a “world title”, but that title only has as much VALUE as the RECOGNITION it gets from the FANS (for example IBO “governing body” has a “world title” (IBO world title) but it ISN’T universally considered to be a world title because majority of fans DON’T consider IBO to be a “main governing body”. So ultimately, fans are MORE important than governing bodies because we r the ones who collectively decide which governing bodies to even “officially recognise” in the first place. Hence going by that logic, the ring magazine title is actually MORE VALUABLE than WBC, WBA, IBF or WBO world titles, because it’s the ONLY title which signifies a champ chosen ONLY by the FANS (without any “governing body”influence).

    @flexermc4333@flexermc433312 күн бұрын
    • I respect your opinion but I personally disagree. I do agree Floyd ducked Manny but honestly had they fight in 2009 at their best, I think Floyd wins, why? Manny struggled with counter punchers with high IQ like Márquez, Floyd was an even better counter puncher than Márquez was as well as faster, Márquez only hit harder. The fighters Floyd has mostly struggled with are inside fighters who fight rough and dirty (nut shuts and rabbit punches) like Castillo and Maidana, Manny was a clean medium range high volume puncher not really an inside fighter nor dirty boxer. Styles make fights and I personally think had the fight happened, Manny woulda won the early rounds giving Floyd many problems cause of speed and being a southpaw but as the fight progressed, Floyd woulda made the right adjustments to win a close decision. Another scenario that coulda been possible is Manny managing to win the first fight and creating a trilogy with Floyd, that woulda been awesome. Unfortunately at the end of the day, that fight in 2009 never happened so we never know.

  • Not a SINGLE mention of Henry Armstrong?! The guy held the Featherweight, Lightweight and Welterweight titles SIMULTANEOUSLY when there were only 8 weight classes. All time great that some of these guys are, the fact they fought at catchweights, multiple titles to choose from really waters down their achievements IMO. I am a HUGE boxing fan and have boxed myself for years. I grew up with Leonard, Hearns, Duran and Hagler. Even those guys (with the exception of Hagler who never left Middle) their belts are not as impressive as say Ray Robinson's 2 belts. There was only ONE Champion or at least recognized Champion (NBA, NY State and WBA WBC didnt come until later) I mean some of these" Championship" victories are against guys no one will remember in 20 years. Even Ray who was great got 2 belts against a drained Donny Lalonde who sub par at best. Inoue unified twice I believe, his achievements merit the most respect for me out of the current multi division winners. Cotto doesnt even win a championship in the 1980's. At 140 Aaron Pryor destroys him. At Welter, take your pick. Hearns (by early Ko) Leonard (decisive decision or late round stoppage) Duran (outclasses him) Jr Middle. Julian Jackson and it aint pretty. McCallum outboxes him and Hagler at Middle? Does ANYONE think Cotto stands a chance? Miguel was a very good fighter in his generation, not great. Fortunate to fight in the multi title world. MMA has unfortunately taken a lot of the thunder away from boxing. Also, I believe basketball has taken some possible future great athletes away from the sport. What I mean by this is boxing used to be THE way to get out of poverty for African Americans, Italians, Jewish and Irish. But if you have a choice to dribble a basketball or get punched in the face and make great money what are YOU going to choose? So I think the overall number of highly skilled boxers has greatly diminished over the last 30 years or so. I am not saying that some of these guys arent great in their own right, just blown up resumes because of the abondance of titles. And titles dont have the same meaning anymore. I mean as great a victory for Ryan Garcia Saturday and he couldnt bother to MAKE WEIGHT!? The victory meant more than the titles, so maybe I am old (I am) but that used to mean something. End rant, sorry

    • Good morning children, in todays lesson we will be learning some basic lessons of life. Let's start with think first. That means we try to use our brain, to find out what things mean and why we do things, before we do things like, writing and speaking. Another life lesson is, don't ask stupid questions. Do you know children, I was asked, can you count? I was also asked, do you get the meaning of the stuff you read? My answer was, of course I can count and yes, I get the meaning of what I read. Thankfully, teacher is here to help you to do the same children. Manny Pacquiao won a title at eight different weights, which is the most in boxing history. Unfortunately, for each of you toddler thinking ingrates, the post isn't titled, who has won a title in the most weight categories. The post is titled, the BEST multi weight champions. Can anyone tell me the difference between best and most? Pacquiao and De la Hoya are clearly not better than Mayweather, as he soundly beat them both. So how can they be ranked above him? Did anyone watch the post? Or are your answers based on personal bias? I ask because all of the fighters I mentioned, are on this Top Rank list. Prime for prime, De la Hoya and Pacquiao don't come anywhere near, the fighters I mentioned. Anyone who knows anything about boxing, would know that. Now sit down, be quiet, go back to your colouring books and don't disturb class again!

And this guy fought in an era of only 8 divisions meaning they weight difference between the weight classes are far bigger than it is today.
