    • I've never worked a tree service, but I have been self-employed before... Work to the price that keeps you in business. I didn't - that's why I I have a real job again now! Try to avoid the temptation to chase the work at any price; if you don't make a profit, you won't be in business still when they call next time... good luck, and may a fair wind full your sail, brother. 👍🇦🇺🪓🙂

    • You always have to factor in company profit otherwise you are just working for wages. Being a business owner isn't worth the headaches and expenses if you don't profit 20% to 25% for the company above what you expense, employee pay and your own wages.

  • The wildlife logs We used to put in the river for the USFS had to have a jagged top. The really big logs would be drilled and blasted, broken logs were ideal. It lets the bugs in I was told. Used that theory on standing stubs also,a couple minutes with the saw to get rid of the smooth cut. Make it look like a Burger King crown.

  • Jake I know you are at the top of your game, you have reached the point where you are one with the tree. You should ride that wave for many years to come. That said when you are on a spar with no overhead tie in, why not have your climb line around the tree as well? I know it’s a hassle, it slows ya down, who needs it ? Well about 38 years ago when braided rope stele core flip lines were replacing the old logger style, Manila three strand core flip lines I had one of the new types break at the cable crimp. Now designs are better materials are better everything is better but still, wife kids, life to live, maybe just maybe it’s worth the hassle. Ok I am old, 62, in fact and getting more cautious knowing I would not heal like a younger man. The 40 foot back flip I shook off decades ago would break me now. Anyway just love speaking.i

  • You could but a beam in the rafters running the length of the saw and hang 1 or 2 chain falls - this would let you roll or manhandle large logs (bigger than your red pine anyway) Congrats on that cut up - Woodland should give you some credit, you pretty much sold me on a 136 … I have logs like those, but a “fancy” mill is out of budget
