    • I can seen 2 interpretations of this song These interpretations boil down to how you understand this line "My body's missing pieces" (FIRST) "My body IS missing pieces" expresses sadness. The song sounds to me like a complaint. The subject speaks how imperfect they are. Also the beginning of the song sounds sobby. It's like a rain hitting the roof. Then, the violin (or w/e it is) sounds like it's crying. (SECOND) "My body'S MISSING PIECES" expresses acceptance. The song is like a sigh of resignation at the bitterness of the mundanity of life. What can you do after failing your ambitions a 101st time? You can only keep getting up. The beginning of the song also sounds different to me. It accompanies the process of learning empathy for yourself, empathy needed to find an insight on your own mind. I realized the beginning is now more like a clock ticking. There is only a set number of hours for any person to live this bitter life. Therefore the person must stir up creativity. The violin (again, I'm not a musician) kicking in is a metaphor to that. The person must find out where to look for the fruit of their own life. tldr, Great relistenability

  • From what I know which is little, there is an old tale in Japanese lore. That if a man sits still for a long enough time he will turn to stone and remain in place forever. Because of this I think the man failed to protect his love so he sat, with her in his arms, and could not leave, he stayed so long holding her that he turned to stone.

  • The love between this warrior and the maiden was forbidden, and when they didn't abide they were cursed , the women would never be able to bear children. They didn't care about the curse and they thought their love exceeded everything, so the women got pregnant and they were happy because they the curse was false ,time went by and one day, the women was feeling immense pain in her stomach, the lovers tried everything but the pain wouldn't stop, the warrior tried carrying her to the shrine on top of the mountain to seek help, on the way the maiden now sings the song: "There is a war inside my head": meaning she is confused questioning her decisions, not knowing if she would make it, not knowing if HER child would make it alive. "And am drowning in regret": she is regretting ignoring the curse and bearing the child The pain now stopped and she feeling dizzy, she knew her child died, she puts her hand on her stomach , and the song continues: "My body's missing pieces": referencing to her baby whom she just lost "Can't pull it all together" it's something that time can't heal, it's not a situation where one can pull himself together. "I wish I could remember" (this is up for interpretation): she is trying to remember how her life has been like what people usually do on the brink of death but she can't remember anything. "When the lights come down": her vision is getting bleaker and darker, she is losing consciousness. "Got an empty crown": the crown is being a mother, the dream she so truly wished for, and empty meaning that that dream she had was in the end nothing but a dream. The warrior now noticing his wife was dead, there was no point in taking her to the shrine instead he took her to the place they first met, he sat with her between his arms, her hands were on her stomach. "The warrior turned to stone The maiden now of bone Together for eternity Shall never be alone" *I took this last quote from the comment section*

With a gentle smile, the maiden laid her head to rest, The warrior pulled her close, in his everlasting embrace. Beneath the sakura tree, an old stone warrior stands, Holding his lover's skeleton in his gentle hands, A testament to love that endures time's vast expanse, Their bond still holds as centuries of seasons dance. Like a candle's soft and mild steady glow, Their love still burns, with a flickering radiant flow. In this timeless stance, their bond remains, Love like flames that never wavers or wanes.

  • Noticed that most of these comments and poetry focus more on the statue holding the girl in a sense which creates him refusing to let go even after death when it really should be focused more on the girl who internalized his already passed existence by sculpting a wooden statue of him and then committing suicide in his arms to join him in the afterlife so they could be together. So +1 for the random girl in the pic.

  • This image has a lot of different meanings that can be taken from it. Many seem to think that the man was a warrior turned to stone while the women died of sadness. However I see it a different way. She’s curled perfectly into his grasp. If he were turned to stone in battle he would have on armor and be stood in defensive position. But he’s not. It almost seems like the women was mortally wounded, and in grief the man carried her to the top of a mountain before she passed, where afterwards he felt so hollow that his body was turned to stone

  • 5 years later and I'm still enjoying this video being played on my screen while I'm chilling in bed or the couch. At first I didn't get the picture but I think I got it now, after all those years. And the music fits even more now. Some noble man/hero/warrior that made history, his name carved in stone and a statue made in his image, a legend. He's holding his love, the sole thing we often don't see or think of when we see the great, but the sole thing that kept him going and will never forget himself. I think the skeleton (his love) in his arms resembles the fact that her image will be forgotten by many but not by him, the one that, due to her involvement, was able to do something truly great.

All meant nothing, he lost in the first place. Gold embroidered thrones, silver plates. A crown that's empty of happiness. Filled with self hatred, he cursed himself. • "When I come back from the war, wait for me here". Every day she visited that same tree hoping to be reunited at last. Days turned into weeks, turned into months, turned into years. Yet the light of love shone brighter than ever. She built a statue of him out of clay, carving every memory she had of him through her hands. She grew weak and ill yet she never stopped until her memory of him was set in stone. Finally he was finished. Beautiful as ever yet cold as ice. Her illness now took over her whole body so she resided in her lover's hard cold arms, but at that moment, felt warm, and waited and waited until her last breath.

  • This is my story adaptation of the photo. Yumiko was a young girl of just sixteen summers. She had long black hair that flowed ever so easily in the wind. She would spend most of her days, playing in the field outside her home. It was the only place she could go to, to be alone. The field was covered in luscious green grass and in the middle - stood one tall cherry blossom tree. Her mother would always tell her stories of that tree - how it housed a spirit named Yasuo who has been watching over their family for generations. Yumiko, of course, always believed that it was just that, a story, one you tell gullible little children. Even so, everyday, Yumiko would lay down against the tree, and fall asleep. Whenever she needed a place to relax and to think, she would come here. She didn’t know the reason for doing so, but whenever she came to this particular spot she would always be able to clear her mind of all troubles. One day, Yumiko got into an argument with her father - the Emperor. He wanted to arrange a marriage for Yumiko, so that they could sew ties between a neighboring country. Yumiko believed that she should be able to fall in love on her own terms, with someone that would love her back, and not just for political gain. “You will marry anyone I choose and that is final, you are my daughter and you have no say in this matter!” Yelled the emperor “This is what is best for our country! Do not be so self centered that you believe, you could have anyone of your choosing, Yumiko.” Yumiko looked into her fathers eyes, tears starting to freely fall down her pale, delicate skin. “All you care about is yourself” Yumiko retorted. “I wish I wasn’t born a princess, I feel as if I cannot breathe with all of the restrictions I have in my life!” Yumiko ran past her father and went straight to the field, with the cherry blossom tree. She leaned against the tree, still crying softly to herself. “I wish I was never even born.” She sniffled while wiping the tears from her eyes. “Whatever is the matter? Why is such a pretty, delicate flower weeping?” A strange but melodic voice whispered. Yumiko jumped to her feet, frightened by the sudden words. “W-who’s there?” Yumiko asked suspiciously. As she said that, a man with a white painted face, and white kimono, emerged from inside the cherry blossom. He walked over to her, his pale hand reaching over to wipe a tear from her face. He smiled. “What are you..? Who are you?” Yumiko stammered taking a step back. “I am a spirit, named Yasuo. I have been watching over your family for a long time now. I have seen each and every one of you grow up and become something great.” He said. Yumiko gasped and said, “my mother would talk about you often, I just.. never believed her stories.” The wind blew and as it did, his white elegant kimono, billowed outward, the leaves from the cherry blossom blowing past his face. “Tell me, why it is you are crying.” He said, with pity in his eyes. “It’s my father. I think his greed clouds his judgement. He cares little for me and only cares about what he can gain. He is trying to arrange a marriage I do not want so that he can gain more territory.” Yumiko said simply. “Tears should be saved for when a loved one passes from this world.” He said gently. “Come here, child” Yasuo said in a caring tone with his arms outstretched. Yumiko stepped closer to the mysterious tree spirit, stopping only inches from him. He held her in his arms and she wept more. “I’m sorry.” Yumiko said desperately trying to wipe the tears from her face. They stayed like this for hours until she fell asleep. When she awoke, she was laying against the trunk of the tree her face still puffy from all that needless crying. Yasuo was nowhere in sight. The night before made Yumiko realize that she needed to talk with her father. Make him see reason. She knew that her kind loving father was still there - somewhere. As she began to walk back she sniffed the air, it smelled of charcoal. Smoke billowed up from her house and she ran towards it, panicking. The entire estate had been burned to the ground. She fell to her knees in the ashes. Her kimono turning black from the soot. There, in front of her face were her dads - the emperors charred remains. The crown that always remained on his head, lay next to his bones, now empty. She felt as empty as the crown. No tears, no sadness, she felt - nothing. She stood back up on her feet and as she did so, felt a hot sensation hit her stomach. Warm liquid covered her hands as she looked down to see an arrow head coming out of her stomach. She turned around, slowly walking back to where she came from, the cherry blossom tree. Blood poured from her wound as she walked, leaving a trail in her wake. The grass turning crimson as she walked through it, finally falling against the Cherry Blossom Tree. Her eyes felt heavy. She looked up, to see Yasuo cradling her in his arms. Tears slowly fell down his face. She smiled and cupped his face in her hand and said, “Why are you crying?” He held her hand against his face and watched, as she went limp against his body.

  • As your party walk through the remnants of the old war, you encounter an area littered with leaves. The pink petals atop a small hill, seemingly at the center of the old ruins, bring your attention to the large tree at it's center. With each step, the tree's large trunk comes into view. Once you turn the corner, you can clearly see a man sitting beneath the swaying branches. His pale complexion and simple clothing adds to the pristine atmosphere of the scene. In his arm however, lies a pile off bones held tenderly together by the roots and grasses slowly growing through it. "This is a tree of eternities" your druid calls out. "It protects those who die under it after death, making their love eternal, never to rot away". As long as this tree still stands, their feelings linger. Never to be lost. The legends say so.

  • Dying together at the same time is better than one of us dying first and leaving the other in torment. sorrow and delight will be etched in the remainder of our lonely life as we wait for our reunion in the afterlife. sorrow because the glory days of our love will not come back and our story will be just a history for a world that will continue even without it. Only one can reminisce the past we both created, all the pain and sadness we've been through vanished as we only remember the joy we experienced. delighted by the time we spend together, delighted because "we" happened and we met in this temporary world of happiness. Two beings twine in the same time, same place, same universe that exists for who knows how long. Is it faith or is it a coincidence We don't care for all we know is that we loved each other. As time passes, lovers like us come and go, our two lives that lived may not be so much of a value for a world of billions lived, but we treasured the life of each other and we consider it the most valuable of all that exists. We are contented in the presence of one another that is why we can wait forever to be together again.

  • He slowed as he felt the blood seeping through his clothes. Panic ran through his mind. He prayed it was his own. Seeing a tree in the distance he hastily made his way there. Leaning against the trunk fear welled up inside him as he stared down at her fragile body. His heart fell as he saw her robes soaked in blood. Nestling in closer to his chest, grabbing a handful of his robe, she looked up at him with sorrow in her eyes but smiling nonetheless. "It's okay.", her voice hoarse as tears streamed down her face. "I'd die for you", he gasped. "And I would live for you", she replied. Reluctantly her eyes slowly closed. The end in sight. With a faint whisper she pleads, "Please, will you stay with me?". Mustering all his strength, his voice trembled replying, "Til the end." And as she passed he would stay. Like statues they'd become. The maiden fades to bone. The warrior stands encased in stone. His soul never to be freed. Never to have roamed. For eternity he stands watch. All so she might never be alone. I put three top comments together to make a complete story for myself. Here's a peek into what I see when I hear this song. Credit/Inspiration: @Atomic Dynamite, @Strawberry Milk, @Chillamanjaro and @Osamu.

  • this song for me is about holding on to the memory of someone who no longer exists. someone that loved you and cared for you yet circumstances made both of you distant and now you don't even talk anymore. you see her in your dreams, you see flashes, memories and your mind rushes with possibilities of what could've been. it's when you can't let go of something or someone that isn't there anymore. you've lost her. let her go man. just let her go. yet you can't. you hold onto the hurt. let it teach you. let it carve you into a better person. so you are sitting there under the oak tree with a dead body of your love and waiting for things to bloom again. this is where i am. i hope it blooms for me one day. i will not let go. i will not give up. i will be better.

I hope that these people will always have the strength to continue fighting until they win all the battles. These people are brave and courageous. To everyone who is fighting a battle, a war they don't talk about, hang in there, keep on fighting because I know one day you'll win, you'll definitely win. You are brave.
