The project snowballs.. In this one I expose the rust, replace the gearbox, fix the ABS and refurb the wheels.. and there's a nasty surprise in store on that front.
Big Thanks to all who contributed to fixing Reggie:

as a senior tech at a main dealer, i can honestly say this was a good video of good workers doing a good job... minor gripe - no cover over open throttle housing... keep these "dirty hands" videos up young man
Main stealer would have covered that up and charge another grand 😂
Jack! These modern classic Jags, especially the XJR, have been going up in price. People are seeing them as the desirable, elegant, quick, grand tour cars they are. I support you keeping this beauty sorted and on the road. I hope you have many happy years with gorgeous Jaguar. ✌️
After Reggie is complete, you’ll have to call him Sir Reginald 👍🏻
So good to see these cars being repaired/maintained and kept on the road. They are so much better than the overly techie and soul-less modern day counterparts.
Any Jag restorations or repairs, especially XJ's always remind me of my dad. Happy times. Thankyou
Thanks, you have used some excellent people on this refurb. They deserve your recommendations.
Yeah just watched top dead centre and they used the same people for their porsche wheels.
Andy from Autoreservejaguar is one of my best friends! 👍🏻 Although he just knows me from my orders… 🤭
The 2000 XJR I owned from 2012 to 2019 was the most reliable car I have ever owned, we used to call it ‘The Flying Chesterfield’ due to the most comfortable interior any of the family had ever experienced. It made my old E32 735! feel like a park bench by comparison. If I could have, I would never have parted with it.
So, what you are saying is that in the end it wasn't reliable anymore?
@@azynkron Thats clearly neither said nor implied. But even so nothing lasts forever. You dont have enough info to be snarky.
This comments section is proof that Jag owners are nice people. Lots of positive encouragement. - We've all suffered the rust, the electrics, the bills.. - but we love the old barges like nothing else! 😃
That is SUCH a good looking car. Destined to become a classic, no question.
It is. The lines are timeless, albeit easy for many of us to say, they're from the prime of our lives.
Fair play for persevering with this, Jack, great video and lovely car. But I can't help feeling grateful that my Jag is the underrated 6 cylinder 3.2, absolutely bullet proof and won't go into limp mode...❤
Yep would be too nerve racking on the X308 worrying what would go wrong next.
This Jag is definitely worth this amount of effort Jack.....it's a beautiful car buddy!
Great to see you are repairing cars again.
The Jag is looking so good, what a lovely XJR that is now. Well worth keeping these on the road, such great cars when they're running perfectly.
This is truly a brilliant video of artisans doing beautiful work. Bravo, and thanks.
Great to see quality work being undertaken all round, especially with the cutting and welding new sections into the bodywork instead of patching/filling.
Great to see a top mechanic doing his stuff. Enjoying this story of Reggie
Reggie's looking so good!! Congratulations Jack!!
Jack. Great video - and a very worthwhile project. It seems that we move in similar circles - I’ve taken my XJ-S to Tom Lenthall and been super impressed by Rhys’s work on it. I’ve also had my wheels refurbished but Adam at Smart Rimz and been equally impressed. I like the watch that you show the work actually being done on your car - even speeded up - because it gives people like me more of an idea about what is involved which means that I can dare to consider tackling a few of the projects myself. Keep up the good work! Peter
Lovely piece of welding and dent removal, not to mention paint.
Love that you're back with a refurb series because now I can't wait to see the next episode!
Fantastic Jack. I absolutely love the XJR.
that looks fabulous jack - please keep this one for a bit !
I do love a good project. Really enjoy seeing how the professionals tackle these jobs, always something to learn.
Great job on the car. The guy who did the PDR is called Mark Charlotte (Oxford Dent Company) he has done several jobs for me can never fault his work and is very responsible priced.
Come on people. Get Jack to 150k subscribers. He is worth this number and so much more.
A lot of work always needs doing on any of these old cars but it's worth it what a beautiful car the last of the elegant Jags
High mileage well used Jags do indeed have this tendency to be big, rusty and expensive to put right. So kudos for getting this one sorted.
Used Tom Lenthall for my Jaguar X350 and was very pleased with the whole experience.
Great to see how these things can be done on the driveway without a fuil service shop. Reminds me of the weekends that I used to do the wrenching on my five various cars for my family.... everything from a and GBP 80 old Ford to an almost new AMG. Top end leaks, Gearbox changes, brakes, bodywork... ahem - crash damage - the lot! Happy times indeed. :-)
Well worth it Jack and it looks fantastic! Needs some 2D number plates though.
Fantastic to see true artisans at work !
That is some incredibly CLEAN sheetmetal work on the rust repair! That's quality work that's hard to find on this side of the pond these days outside of a major restoration shop.
I'm sure it won't make financial sense but somehow the Jag deserves this amount of care
Used to use Stuart at KC paintwork years ago. Top chap - glad to see still going strong...
The body repairs looked top quality. I wish I could find somewhere up here in Glasgow for repairs like that. Most places seem to be accident damage only - no rust.
You’ll have a right smart ride when done! A keeper! ❤
Reggie is a bit of a lad in his youth and has lived a interesting life.
Great video Jack - always enjoying seeing you keep these old cars on the road, well done
Jack this was a great watch; so nice to see the old boy getting some love. Filming and editing, top drawer 🎉👍🍻
You’re doing her proud! The work being done is being done properly too! A credit to you!
Always good to pick up recommendations of local service providers. Fortunately I haven't needed their services for a few years, but Smartrimz have done excellent work for me in the past. Very impressed with the paintless dent repair work too, particularly as you had a go with a piece of wood and lump hammer first!
With Jaguar closing it’s castle Bromwich plant it’s really great to see you preserving one of Jaguar’s great models ..well done
It's not closing!
Jack all good work...Reg looks fantastic. Just that no one has mentioned the music..the first bit was really hectic, and I did write woah...and then the last half of the video is far easier to watch and less intrusive, great ;D
I could be wrong but given a few years if you keep up with the service and ongoing restoration not only will you get your money back but you will make a profit too. Looking back at one stage I could have bought an E type requiring work for around 4,000 pounds. Now refurbished they sell for some 125,000 pounds. Only thing I would suggest is that before applying the Lanoguard I would have given the underbody a thorough wash in deionised water to wash off as much of the road salt as possible. In the corrosion reaction the road salt is not consumed but just acts as a catalyst for the rusting reaction and as it is hygroscopic will draw moisture from the air to make unprotected steel continuously rust. Found that out when lying under my Triumph Vitesse and although it hadn't rained for weeks and was a dry winters evening, there were glistening beads of water all over the rapidly thinning chassis.
i really like the work that you have done in improving this smooth old Jaguar. Many thanks for the tips and recommendations!
Great video, my car is the same but without the sunroof , good to see the same or similar issues being delt with and most important good suppliers/workshops getting a mention.
Its amazing what a nice set of rims does to the overall appearance of the vehicle.
Great episode love the format of getting reasonably modern classics back up to scratch
The number plates are incongruous with the car.
It would look better with a normal reg from the year of manufacture, it would be admired more because of it's age !
I think it looks great 👍 as it is. Bob M.
It's the factory registration. I know as it's my old car @@paulgee6150
I agree the rest of the car is now looking great but those number plates are trashy
@@paulgee6150The car is 24 years old and the X prefix was used from August 2000 to July 2001 so is age correct. If registered before August 2000 it would be a W prefix and he wouldn’t be able to fit that plate to the car.
Even when you broke down driving to big toms...... You looked damn stylish!
Great job......and saving Reggie just in time before he was only fit for banger racing!
Looking good! Jack you are lucky to have such skilled craftsman working on your car.
Nice job so far Jack, those number plates though!!!
Lovely car and now looking fantastic, just needing that new headlining. Would love an XJR and this shape is the best ever, so much prettier than the later X305. Looked like a nice Jensen Interceptor primed and waiting for paint next to Reggie in the bodyshop
Sweet, sweet kitty! (And I really enjoy your videos, too!)
👏for restoring old cars. Especially a Jaguar. Enjoying seeing your project. Thanks.
Great job, Jack. This jag is coming along so nicely 😀 The tyres were a shock to me. Glad you got these replaced. It was an accident waiting to happen.
👏👏👏👏Fair play to you Jack, Reggie is looking a million dollars! I know it will have cost you a few quid that you will NEVER get back but what a classy looking motor! Years ago I had an XJ40 Sovereign as a Funday/Sunday car, I loved that motor for about 4 years until the guy at the local garage said “I’ve welded her underneath for the test, reckon you should get rid of before the next one”! 😢 broke my heart! Great vid as usual!👍😊❤️
Have got immersed in Reggie’s repair😂well done 👍🏻
Another cracking film! Excellent! The incidental music is a great choice and compliments it very well
Please can you give a detailed breakdown of the costs (ie wheel refurb cost, bodywork /paint costs etc) in the next Video as that would be really interesting.
The problem with lanolin based products is that if you're going to go through all that prep then you may as well use a proper underseal like Dinitrol 4941 rather than something that washes off throughout the year. Lanolin is a quick yearly bodge for your tractor 😂
Amazing, the front passenger wing repair is masterful
Damn...that Jag looks good....
Brilliant project and superb progress - nice one Jack
Loving the Jag videos.
The metalwork guys did a very good job, not that easy to make it come out so well
Fascinating video and a lovely job done on a beautiful car. I can't wait to see what the repair costs add up to and whether Reggie can turn a profit for you.
Hello Jack, this was another interesting and fun video. I always enjoy the details presented and I am amazed at how much of the work that you are able to do on your cars. Well done.
Great stuff, wonderful to see this lovely old jag, back in tip top condition. Very enjoyable vid
I always loved the design of that era of jag. Money well spent when you look at the price of new cars!
Great effort. Huge improvement and terrific job with the body.
On the stands without wheels in the thumbnail, speaking as a Yank, that Jag looks like a Crown Victoria from a junkyard.
this kinda video is why i subscribed to number 27 !! keep up the good work !!
Oof. I almost had to switch off when you pulled out the needle gun. I served in the US Navy in the 80's, on a ship, and like almost every other non-officer, I have trauma around those damned things 😅
Transformed and respectably prestigious: great job.
I am very impressed with your effort to button up a handsome motorcar and give it all it needed to be a reliable driver. Thanks to you and all the craftsmen who showed us how to do it proper. Greetings from Tx.
Hi Giac, was amazed to see the exhaust studs which my pal Jerry J and I sold to Jaguar when they were part of Ford. I am sure he will make a comment or two on them. The material is A286 high temp stainless and the studs can sustain 700C temps. The threads are Lock Thread, and work well.
Giacomo likes his cats 😻😻
Really enjoying this refurb. It looks great so far.
That's one thorough fix up! Brilliant!
Fabulous film… it’s so great to these various craftsmen at work, particularly with such amazing results!!!❤
Great job looks like you found some good people to help and its worth the effort Price is not going to be cheap but it's going to be a drop in the ocean when you compare it to the pantera lol😂
Jack, first rule for us mechanics, always put the wheel under the sill & never rely just on the trolley jack (when you were fixing the dent). Surprised that the garage did not stuff a rag down the throttle body Great video👍👍👍👍👍
Oh dear, you would think he would have learned from the Ferrari incident 🤣
I wouldn’t trust a 20YO Jags sill 😂 the wheel needs to go under the sump
@@exgtt2061 fair comment, here in Greece we don’t have the rust issues so the sill would be ok😃
Damage to the inner edge of tyres can be caused by straddling those pyramid shaped road humps. Less comfortable but better to drive two wheels right over it with two in the central gap.
@@exgtt2061 from a materials and mechanical engineer with motor vehicle engineering, never trust a sill older than 3 years. That's why the dealer warranty only lasts that long. And NEVER place support under the engine as the engine and subframe can move on bushings. Support the body from the frame only EVER.
I second Mark Charlett at Oxford Dent Co for the paintless dent removal skills - top bloke, knows his stuff!
Bloody hell, those wheels look lovely!
Watching a beautiful British classic refreshed so brilliantly, what a superb video to enjoy. Looking forward to forward to the follow ups.
Glad you kept the faith Jack.Good Lad !
Hi Jack , you’re doing a great job. These modern classic beauties need to be properly maintained. I use an x308 as my daily driver since 9 years, and every day is a real experience. Little bit of envy for you people in UK, here in Italy is so hard to find Jaguar specialists ( but I found mine!). Really Miss England and West Midlands! Thank you for your videos 💪
This is so much better than any test drive! Keep it coming.
Pop a flat kids soccer ball in the guard - pump it up and that dent would be forced out softly compared to a hammer etc . Kids pump up balls are a sweet tool for popping dents out .
Would an adults football work?
That took a whole host of skills Jack, wow! nice work 🙌
Splendid video Jack, some cars deserve another life. If want a really good XJR, look for one from Japan or here in New Zealand. Dealers here send quite a few classics to the UK, our cars are rust free and therefore in demand. They never bring cars in from the UK! There isn't a spot of rust on my 2002 XKR 😊
Nicely coming along Jack. I will be VERY interested in the headliner as my v6 Calibra (older than Reggie) needs to have hers done.
Fantastic! Good for you for keeping a legend on the road and showing it can be done. Now you know what you’re working with and can have fun with it. Can’t wait for more! 🎉
the car looks great! I recommend treating the back sides front the welded bits with a cavity wax to prevent rust coming from inside out.
With the ABS. You can try disconscting the main multipin plug from the ABS pump. Give it a good spray with proper contact cleaner spray. Plug it back in and it should have also rebooted the ABS.
