    • Wally Morgan, Indeed. I don't know much about him or who he is, or even about UFC or MMA, but once I started listening to him in this video I could not stop until the end, enjoying it all the way. I kept getting the feeling that he is way smarter than I will ever be (and being over 70 I know I'm on the downhill side), so he must be a good enough fighter to have not gotten hit in the head much. I especially appreciated how he uses just enough words to say what he means, and no more, like a very good artist painting a picture, or musician writing a song. Enjoyable.

How can a man with such courage and ferocious kicking power also be gifted with such a charismatic persona? Even sublime thinker, German philosopher Nietzsche, I'm sure would have been a Bas fan, and sat front row to watch this UFC "laughing, lion" in the arena work his craft. Keep the stories and lessons from Bas coming Chael. • @Jack Burton that is not a complete or fair picture of him. Yes, he was dominated when he first met wrestling so he went away and learned some. In the truest sense of a mixed martial artist he recognised his weakness and started incorporating it into his arsenal. So, to the original comment, Bas would be a monster if he came up now. Because he would study all the things that are normal nowadays. He was always open to new things. Listen to his talks about distance, tempo, traps etc and you soon realise he is no ordinary fighter.

  • I admire Chael Sonnen and intentionally looked up his opinion on Bas Rutten (both men are a legend, but of a different era....like watching football and trying to compare Joe Montana, Steve Young and Jimmy G as if they were all playing today) and I love the video! The mutal respect is amazing! Also, quick side point, when I was in my young to mid twenties, I knew deep down that "I have a ton of heart, a high pain tolerance, a love for fighting and that I'm strong"...... and as I would drive by Team Quest on my way to work from Tualatin to Hillsboro..... and, again, deep down I knew "if I walked in there, they would gladly teach me to fight if I wanted to.....but I dont have what it takes to be a champion." I just dont. maybe I did and it needed to be cultivated, but I would watch athletes at Team Quest working out everytime I drove by.....if I was opening the store, if I was closing the store.....lights were always on in there. It was awe inspiring and I wanted SO badly to walk in and give it a go. I didnt, however, but not because I was scared or thought I would be rejected (I knew the trainers there wanted to train, not belittle people for wanting to learn. they didnt expect everyone to be a champion, but they would expect determination. great people) ..... it's odd but I felt like me going in there to train would be me wasting the time and energy of real champions.

  • Well explained Chael!!! "No good deed goes unpunished..." Which according to Wikipedia is a commentary on the frequency with which acts of kindness backfire on those who offer them. In other words, those who help others are doomed to suffer as a result of THEIR being helpful... Bas is a legend and a hero. Even in the era of the 1 hour news cycle, the "casuals" and the keyboard warriors, there is still a requirement for a REAL man. From what you've described, and from what I have read and heard from OTHER sources, (like your good self I am consumed by ALL things MIXED MARTIAL ARTS journalism, podcasts & general social media.... Bas was "SOCIALLY HACKED" His good nature was COMPLETELY taken advantage of. I believe that ALL followers of combat sport, should propagate Mr Sonnen's description of "The Bas situation" (Chael's NOT always the BAD guy, he is ONLY Colby Covington's REAL FATHER !😉, (JOKING MOFOS!!!) I believe WE should show the legend that is Bas, that we ALL have HIS BACK too... Let's show solidarity in OUR sport, forget about the Entertainment era or Hollywood pretentiousness, don't let ONE of OUR own get fucked over... Let's just get the word out there... Please share video... Thanks again Chael
