ABOUT THE PERFORMANCE
Sami Yusuf’s riveting performance ‘Beyond the Stars’ features eight new compositions and dynamic new arrangements of previous releases. Taking as its point of departure a Quranic injunction that nations and tribes are meant to know one another, this epic event brings together several musical traditions in deeply meaningful dialogue.
From Gregorian chant to Andalusian mawwals, from Middle Eastern melodic modes and rhythms to the euphoria of qawwali music and the poignant sound of the Chinese erhu, each shares its stories in a distinct musical language. Lyrics are drawn from beloved luminary figures and mystical poets - Hildegard of Bingen, Abu al-Hasan al-Shushtari, Mansur al-Hallaj, Yunus Emre, Rumi, Imadeddin Nasimi, Amir Khusro, and Bulleh Shah. The entire concert is performed by master musicians on traditional instruments - rabab, tar, santur, qanun, ney, erhu, tanbur, kemanche, balaban, oud, sitar, tabla, dholak, and daf.
- Sami Yusuf performed ‘Beyond the Stars’ on two nights in Al Wasl Plaza at the Dubai EXPO. This KZhead release is a compilation of the two performances, mixed and mastered for optimal quality.

  • The meeting is amazing. But I would say this concert touches me in a way that I do not understand why. I am Portuguese and have never been to Northern Africa or the Middle East. But if there's such a thing as reincarnation, I must have lived in one of these areas in my past life. Love to work with this concert while I focus.

I really bow down to all the singers and everyone who is playing all the instruments. You all are shining receptacles of the divine.
