    • I'm living in the south of Kazakhstan, in the Jambyl region, Taraz city (the city has 2000+ years of history). Trust me, people are completely different here. In Kazakhstan type of people divides into Northerners, Southerners, Westerners, Easterners, and a special type - a man from Shymkent (in Kazakh it sounds like *shymkentskii* p.s. u can hear it from local people). These types have different slang, some words, and accents.

    • In the Kazakhstan people hate government cuz in the Kazakhstan many expensive materials like oil,uranium, tungsten. But kasakhstan don't rich with it because of last president nazarbayev which took some of money,we can make petrol,but we just sale chip oil to China, then they just sailing petrol more expensive to us.

Also now I've watched the first video, I see you have changed your hair to the wavy style of the locals as you talk about in this one! :D It looks lovely, you're not a 'hot human mess' at all.

  • Suits are very common in restaurants only in Astana, because of two reasons: 1. There are too many people working in public services and they have to wear suits in office; 2. Since they usually work till deep evening 7,8 or 9 pm, they don’t have enough time to go home and change their clothes. So, they usually meet up in restaurants just after their work wearing official suits :)

  • Ha ha. I think lots of nations don't trust their governments too much. As for the seasonal fruits and vegetables, I'm thinking that it might be because they keep them fresh and unprocessed, they don't force them to grow when they're not supposed to do it naturally. I don't know, just a guess, as you also mentioned once that some lady at the marketplace was trying to give you not so perfect apples, which are the real, healthy ones. And from my perspective, if that's the case, it's great.

    @estera4176@estera41763 жыл бұрын

    • It's a bit more complex than that. Agriculture in Kazakhstan is a weird beast. First, it doesn't bother with preserving fresh produce even when it can be preserved (and I mean keeping it fresh, not pickling and the like), so the time window for buying local fresh produce is roughly the same as when it grows. Which, yeah, means seasonal, but doesn't necessarily mean "natural". Harmful fertilisers are a real problem here, especially when it comes to watermelons. Secondly, greenhouses and such are far more expensive than they should logically be, so even though you _can_ buy local tomatoes in the middle of winter, they would be literally more expensive than imported oranges and bananas, and very likely even more expensive than _imported greenhouse_ tomatoes. Logic? Who's she?

  • Distrust of government is more about people stressing about Nursultan Nazarbaev. There are a lot of 45+ people that really feel fooled by Nursultan Nazarbaev. In 1990th he said that everything is gonna be great and everyone would have a good life if the citizens would work a lot. And now a lot of age 45+ are really angry about that. And this idea is supported by young people thinking in more american/european way. The young people thinks that Kazakhstan doesn't give them enough freedom. And yes, there are a lot of idiots driven by their bad ugres and want to destroy the country without understanding the consequences. But actually, Kazakhstan is doing really good by the economic situation comparing other post-USSR countries

I landed in Astana where Lera came to meet me and we took the train back to her part of the country. Astana is a beautiful city and we spent much of the day walking around and taking pictures of the beautiful architecture of many of the buildings.
