    • I adopted a dog with a similar temperament. It's not easy to make up for a traumatic past. Mine wasn't abused by people, but by the owner's other dogs. Now, he's so dog reactive, we have to keep him away from EVERY other animal. The first day we brought him home, he stayed in one spot for 18 hours, and wouldn't move. He would crawl behind couches, chairs, and under furniture--and he was a stout boy. Getting him trained on a leash was very difficult. He bit through our first leash in one bite. He'd lock down at anything unfamiliar, and have to be carried. He's made a lot of progress, loves his walks, and is sweet to us. But he's still afraid of strangers, and tries to attack every other animal. He's also afraid of being touched, so grooming him is a fight--every single time. I have to corner him just to brush him, and the last bath he had, he clawed us in terror. I hate that any animal is put down, but with so many animals able to be adopted, they have to make the hard choices. It would be tragic if an aggressive dog went home with a family, and attacked someone. It's possible that dog could have been retrained, but it would take a special owner, who could address all the issues. My own rescue would likely have been put down with most other owners. We got lucky to find each other.

  • Hmmmm in Denmark you are not allowed to take kittens from the mother untill they are 12 weeks old

    @jonnanielsen8322@jonnanielsen8322Ай бұрын
    • Interesting! At my local Humane Society in Colorado (US) kittens have to be at least 8 weeks and 2 pounds (907g) to be spayed or neutered, so that is when they are available for adoption. If the mom cat is feral, they will seperate the kittens at 6 weeks of age so they don’t learn any feral behaviors from the mom. I foster mom cats and kittens for my local Humane society.

      @tessasutherland9233@tessasutherland9233Ай бұрын
    • @Tessasutherland there we get a feral mother with kittens in foster, and work with the mother to socialise her, kittens need there mom to learn to be cats. Some even keep the kittens 14 weeks. If the mother is dead, the kittens will go to foster with older cats. We spay and neuter kittens when they are 12weeks, and it'sin over law saying it is not allowed to take a kitten younger that 12 weeks

      @jonnanielsen8322@jonnanielsen8322Ай бұрын
    • @@jonnanielsen8322 This is wonderful! I have older cats, so they help socialize any kittens without mothers I might have. I have usually kept any feral mom cats longer than the requirement. One mom cat I did take back was really sick and struggling to cope with her kittens. She was severaly underweight, not eating and actively trying to get away from the kittens and me. She went to their intensive care unit, but unfortunately passed away. Of her three kittens, the smallest kitten also passed away. I’ve fostered over 50 kittens and around 10 mom cats and other than these two, I’ve only had one other kitten pass away. It is always heartbreaking, but I try to focus on the ones who, although ill, managed to pull through with vet care and lots of care. One of the issues is the sheer number of kittens that need fostering come kitten season and not enough foster homes. I highly encourage people with a laundry room or another room in the house that is not being used much to consider fostering animals. They need to be quarantined for the first two weeks.

  • It breaks my heart when a companion has to be killed because of people abuse, it's not their fault, that is why I support animal no kill rescue shelters, not the SPCA.

    @TIREDOFEVIL@TIREDOFEVILАй бұрын
    • That’s exactly why you should support the SPCA-so they’d have the resources to do more behavior therapy. “No kill” shelters can be no-kill because they can cherry-pick the least troubled animals. The SPCA doesn’t get to do that.

    • Always be Careful With expressionis like Native and not native. When is native? 5 years? 10years? 50years? Hoomans ARE the most NOT native subjects spread all over the world and destroyed whatever. So be timid! See what WE did harm to live and Environment. We have no right with our meanings to judge - mostly we are the ones who bring species to foreign regions. We!!! are twice as guilty.

    • I agree. I got a free rat terrier, 8 months old, face all scarred from other dogs beating her up, and absolutely terrified of humans, but she is bit by bit coming out of her shell. She had a door phobia and getting her to come inside when it was ten degrees outside (it was impossible to catch her) was a 3 hour affair and about froze me out. I buy a lot of treats and hand feed her a lot. She likes me a lot, but when I bend over to pet her, she will run away. She now lets me pet her if she is standing on the comfy chair.

  • I had never seen a so called dog behavior like this woman, how did she even get a job in that field working with abused animals while she must abused the 2 brindles her self by flipping them on their backs like she did, that's disgusting what she did and the way she talks that voice is irritating to me I could just imagine dog ears,plus she goes and pretends to hit him when he just came from a abuser,all my foster failures have never been treated like that by the rescue.
