10 Hair Care Myths You Should Stop Believing
Almost all of us are ready to spend a bunch of money or follow any advice to make our hair healthy and shiny. Let’s bust the most popular hair care right now!
Some say, ‘Don’t wash it every day or it will get greasy faster.’ When you try it, you still have oily hair the very next day. The others say, ‘You need to use mayo for the hair volume.’ But no matter how many jars you have put on your head, the hair is still flat as it used to be.

SUMMARY
- Hair grows from the roots and not from the ends. The average speed of hair growth is a half an inch (1 cm) per month. So, if you cut your hair every month, it will just keep the same length or even become shorter.
- If you have short hair that dries in a few minutes, then probably you don’t need to use a blow dryer. However, if your hair is long, it is on the contrary to the belief preferable to blow dry.
- If you wash your hair with the same shampoo for a long time, your hair won’t get dirty faster or grow slower. Many factors can influence this but not “the addiction” of your hair to any particular brand.
- Dandruff occurs in people with an oily scalp. So, when this problem appears, stop using hair oil, which, contrary to your expectations, only worsens the situation.
- Overly frequent combing distributes the skin oil along the hair, and it gets dirty much faster. However, combing doesn’t affect the hair health and can even do much harm by causing split ends and breakage.
- The thickness of the hair, as well as the number of hair follicles, is a genetic trait so the quality of care cannot affect it in any way.
- Frequent or rare washing doesn’t affect how fast your hair will get dirty. However, properly selected care can adjust the work of the sebaceous glands, and your hair will get dirty more slowly.
- Since the quantity of hair for each person doesn’t depend either on care or proper nutrition, several hairs cannot grow instead of one. However, don’t tear out gray hairs because you can damage the follicle or cause an ingrown hair.
- Hair consists of dead tissue, neither cold nor hot water can affect the cuticle’s condition.
- The amount of shampoo may vary with hair length and density. A dollop the size of a quarter is usually enough - too much lather can dry the scalp. If you get a full, rich lather on the first wash, you don’t need to repeat the shampooing.

I agree. Most of these aren't true...
Ashley You can’t argue with Science!
Which ones? And please elaborate on the science of why or why not they are true.
As someone who has spent the last two years professionally studying hair care I can tell you that almost everything said in this video is wrong
Kat Bailey atleast 5 of these were true and backed up by many studies so i think you may need to drop your school studies and do further research about hair. If you want i can list the ones that are proven myths
Jayare I didnt say all of them were false, some of them are definitely true, but many of them aren't.
Kat Bailey "almost everything is wrong". However actually most of these are correct, scientifically and realistically. I think maybe one or two were off (example proper care MAY actually make your hair thicker). So point out which other one so i can link you to things that prove otherwise
Kat Bailey..is the dandruff one true..cuz i put coconut oil hair treatment in my hair and my dandruff goes away for a month
Jenna Gaming it might just be dry scalp, but dandruff can be caused by an overly dry or overly oily scalp. Dry scalp can be cured by rehydrating your scalp like you're doing with the coconut oil but most of the time dandruff has to be treated medically. That's why there are certain types of shampoo like selsun blue and head and shoulders to treat dandruff.
These are actually true, thanks. I have just wasted 6 minutes of my life that I can never get back. Thanks Bright Side. Maybe next time you should do research with dependable resources, and stop telling us lies.

Some of these myths seem true to me. The most ridiculous thing he told was to not put oil in your hair. Essential oils and natural oils can do WONDERS to your hair.
He said that people who have oily scalp should not use oils.

how you are saying that cold water is bad for your hair and when I went to the video" how to grow your hair in two weeks" that has been uploaded by the same channel it told that it is good for the hair?? like if you are with me. and if you dont belevie me just to the video "5 simple ways to grow your hair in 2 weeks" at the minute 2:00
Hi I am a hair stylist and I would like to say that washing in cold water is better for longevity of color, can help refuse hair loss (hot water causes cuticles and pore to open up causing more hair to fall out), and it closes the cuticle down (locking oils from conditioner in) so I recommend washing in warm water and rinsing In cool water to lock cuticle. But cold water is not bad for hair at all! It’s actually better for it!
I have been washing my hair with natural bar soap for about 5 years now, and I don't need to do it as often, use only apple cider vinegar as a rinse, and am happy with the texture and moisture of my hair. It use to be dry.
This video is a 'MYTH'
Lol
U r a myth
legit how this videos almost fully truth full except for myth 9
could you explain?
Lol yeah.
Myth #2 is true actually. You should always rinse your hair with cool water to clove the cuticles and make it shiny, never with warm or hot water. Hair is made out of Keratin which is a protein and we all know, proteins will get destroyed at temperatures over 40°C. Keratin even faster. (Thats also why high fever over 39° is so dangerous btw.). Oh and to Myth #10 at the beginning, cutting your hair won't make your hair grow faster yea but it will definitely make your hair longer. It prevents split ends and split ends cause your hair to break off (and so making it shorter). Your haie grows from the roots but the ends keep breaking off so...cutting your hair will make it grow longer (and it seems to grow faster)
Im not used to cold water😭 Itll be so cold after i get out...but atleast ill have shiny hair..i hope.
Yes, cold water makes your hair thick. Usually what I do is use warm water and then towards the end of the shower, I use cold water for my skin and hair and it’s makes it voluminous and shiny.
If I use cold water it ruins my hair
Wait did you mean hair follicles or are hair cuticles a thing?
Lol it doesnt help with low porosity hair
My hair is waist length so I only use shampoo on the roots and conditioner on the ends. Good tip.
My hair is long and I don’t use hair dryer and my hair is 100% fine, yes oily scalps are dandruff causing
you should try out the "Curly Girl Method" it really helped me with my curls😊😘

cely miku yes you right dear,, me too,, hehe I’ll take wash my hair every 3days ,,
Yeah, it just takes time to condition the hair. You hair won’t suddenly become not oily ina. Day or a week.
Every old person i know who has their hair has all told me they wash there hair only twice a week....
No research ( in vitro and statistics with control groups) has found that washing affected the oil production of sebaceous gland. So maybe it’s just that your hormonal balance has changed which is the main factor with genetic predisposition of oil production, thickness and growth of the hair.

Jennifer Shay and me with short but incredibly thick hair (I have a kind of pixie cut but one trim folks up a dust pan or two 😶). A dollop won't cut it lol
Yep lol
OMG!!! FINIALLY SOMEONE WHO UNDERSTANDS 🤣🤣
A dollop of shampoo might be enough for a shaved head, but if your hair is longer than a few inches it'll be difficult to saturate the entire scalp with shampoo with only that much. And the thicker your hair is the more you need. Shampoo only goes on the scalp though unless you need to clean gross stuff from the lengths. Conditioner though.... My hair is to my hips so I go through conditioner super fast. Lucky for me I only need to wash once a week unless I get something gross stuck in my hair.
Jennifer Shay 😂😂😂😂 that is so true I feel bad because ho much I have to use
My life is saved! I thought when i pull out a gray hair it will grow more but it's all thanks to this video 👍

Really?? I Thought switching shampoo would be harmful for hair..
I am SO obsessed with my hair, so trust me, I have some experience. My hair has been everywhere from long to short, thin to thick. Yes, hair does thicken. I had dandruff a few months ago, and that was because my scalp was dry, which is why it was so itchy also. Hair oils did work. Using a hair dryer DOES damage hair! And dries scalp! Not saying you shouldn't ever use it if your in a hurry and your hair needs to be dryed within a few minutes. Do us all a favor and stop speaking falsehoods. Myth number 10 is actually true, because when you cut your hair you cut off the split ends and if you don’t cut them off The split ends could split up words more until the whole hair strand is split in half which affects the root and how fast it grows
Ikr
I am a hair stylist and I agree!!
As a cosmetolegist i can tell you cool water does close the cuticle and help add shine
Can i take a bath with hot water then pour cold water on my hair ? Would it be effective ? Cause i cant take shower with cold water 😣
Cold water does do wonder to my hair.
CurlyBessie yeah I see so many videos saying wash ur hair with cold water it makes it healthy and shiny bur it does the exact same thing it does with hot water
Let me say one thing though, I have long and thick hair and I air dry because heat is bad for your hair- *_depending_* on your hair type. My hair stays shining because I never use heat and I have a different method of caring for my hair. Also here is a tip for your (hair) tips, start combing/brushing from the bottom
Kaiden Elise Well when you have straight hair you don’t have to worry about it. I have curly hair but I always straighten it because I hate my curly hair. I should stop it from damaging in but I just HATE my curly hair.
+•BabyGigi• I went through a time of my life where I straightened my hair for 2 years. It was horrible, dry, and frizzy. My natural curls were so much better before those 2 years and they haven't really been the same again. Slowly they are regaining some shape but I wish I'd never done that to my hair. Please embrace your curly hair, it's unique and beautiful.
I love this 😍 this is how i takes care of my hair
This was rathur interesting, thankyou Bestie!🙂
I used coconut oil for my dandruff, and after one use I had significantly lower patches of dandruff after washing than when before I applied coconut oil.
Myth #7, you need to remove it or edit that. Ive got a diploma as a haistylist, I can tell you that dandruff can be dry and oily. Only your hairstylist or dermatologist can check that and tell you and then you need to use specialised shampoos depending which dandruff you've got.
When my exboyfriend cuts his hair it grows fast.mine takes 3 years lol.

Ish all they show is straight hair! It's seems like they forgotten people who have different hair textures than just white people.
Jhanee Akirah Johnson white people don't just have straight hair and there are other races that have pin straight hair.........
Bubble Stars ikr I'm a different race and have paper straight hair
I think her point was that White hair, curly or straight, acts very differently to non-white hair, curly or straight. Half of these myths have truth to them for people with curly hair and whose hair isn't European based. Please note I'm using the terms 'white' and non-white' very loosely and I'm not trying to pigeon hold anyone or any hair type.
Artist Maria Rev thank you!
Thanks for the advices :)
Many people says that my hair is smooth and beautiful ever since I was a child. So that motivated me to take more care of my hair, I don't use shampoo everyday (only 3 times per week), I don't frequently use hair blower, and doesn't take any other hair treatment other than a consistent haircut. Hope this tip helps

Regular hair trims prevent your hair from breaking hence aiding in your hair lengthening process🙄
Thank you for clarifying that for me.
Bless you you busted alot of myths for me
When I was little my hair was thin my mum always cut it really short now I have thick long hair nice one.
The old hair routine in this video said that avoid hair dryer. And now tells us to use it.
You are right. Natural hair drying is always better
I like how they tried arguing that water inherently causes breakage if you let it sit on your hair too long. Haha, funny. Why does it take so long for it to dry in the first place? Oh yea, the use of product. Even while long, my hair only took like...40 minutes max to dry completely.
Call Me Swivel Hips My hair dries within minutes to half an hour and I have below shoulder length hair.
Bindu Rajmohan but air driving can cause your hair to be water logged or over hydrated eventually weakening it so both can help
Pritisha Shrestha: Only use a hairdryer with a heat protectant to prevent drying out the hair and keep the heat low on a medium speed to prevent breakage
I dont know why but i really enjoy the voice of this video

How on earth can oil make dandruff worst. My hair need the oil😞.
Rhoniesia Blenman-Edwards It actually can, but the answer is to wash your hair more often and use an anti-dandruff shampoo.
Artist Maria Rev thank you
Okay. I'm not saying that you can't. I know my sister has dandruff because of an oily scalp, but she uses oil in her hair when she washes it. Since she's been using Head and Shoulders Anti-Dandruff shampoo she hasn't had any problems.
I use aloe Vera gel for my hair so they're not oily and sometimes eggs to give them protein and power.

Amy M. Because it does not have the sulfates that make the shampoo lather (sud, make bubbles) ive heard from many hair dressers that non lathering (sulfate free shampoo) is THE BEST!!!
The way you mockingly laughin tho 👌😂😌
All these myths were so funny to listen to, thankyou Bestie for the humor!😅
I had to listen not because I belief you, but because I love how you speak
Yeah I know my sis bought a really expensive shampoo to have great hair for the wedding. It was fine until after a few weeks she had major hair fall. I just used my baby shampoo cuz it smells good.
The fact that they said “ the more you cut your hair the faster it grows” is because when you don’t cut the ends which is the damaged it will fall so that makes sense ;)
Combing does help hair growth and Heath! If you start from the bottom and work your way up you will distribute your oil and stimulate your scalp which will increase hair growth
Thank for information💜💜

Myth no. 7 is true When I had dandruff I used oil and the dandruff stopped Also before applying hair oil with my dry scalp I got a lot of dandruff
Hello can i get ur advice is it olive oil can help to get rid off my dandruff? Thanks and advance
I am a hair stylist and would just like to clarify that dry scalp and actual dandruff are very different things. A dry scalp is just dry skin and can flake similarly to dandruff. So oil would help with that. But dandruff is actually caused by a fungus and oil would not help get rid of that. You would need an anti dandruff shampoo. (:
Almera Cataag hi I’m a hair stylist. if you have a dry scalp, that is flakey, oil can help. If you have actual dandruff, that is caused by a fungus and can only go away with an anti dandruff shampoo. Use an anti dandruff shampoo and see if that clears up the flakes. If it doesn’t, that means you probably didn’t have dandruff, you must have dry skin. And in that case use coconut oil. Add some tea tree essential oil as well and apply to the scalp.
They said that stop using oil if u have dandruff Listen it carefully first
Thankyou Bright Side, this was interesting, thankyou,🙂
I started using the shampoo and conditioner called 'Bed head' and it saved my life. I started using it in the end of 2017 and now my hair ia really long and healthy. I really recommend using it (I used the red one for straight hair). I also use argan oil on the end of my hair
That isn't true! You NEED to cut your hair often or it won't grow! If you have split ends they will start to get bigger, and work their way up the hair. Eventually they will break off leaving you with short damaged hair. So, if you cut them it seems that your hair grows faster, but it doesn't have a split end to break it. Hope this helps! X
Carmen Smart Not really. Your hair will still grow because hair grows from the scalp. Anything you do to the ends, is irrelevant. YES you should get your hair cut often to take off dead ends because it'll keep splitting up and up, but it doesn't affect the growth of the hair JUST the length.
I'm not saying you're entirely wrong but I know someone who hasn't had their hair cut in 5 years and she has lovely hair down past her hip
Carmen Smart huh noo
It is how you treat your hair
Carmen Smart i haven’t cut my hair IN MONTHS yet it still grows super fast so i don’t think you “need” to . Idk depends on certain people

I'm so glad to hear someone say cool water does not close hair shaft.
*Myth Number NINE!!!* Loved his voice modulation
When my scalp is dry, I got dandruffs soo maybe it is up to a person....
Jale Meryam Fuzuli Use some salt with your shampoo
Zhala Bayramova yeah and also I use coconut oil on my hair for my dandruff and it works perfectly
I'm a cosmetology student and a few of these were wrong
Please expand.
I'm not a cosmetologist and I still know some of these are wrong.
Heat/alkaline chemicals open the cuticle and cold/acidic chemicals close it. Hair doesn't grow faster by cutting it but it does appear fuller making the illusion of it being longer, plus split ends and breakage can shorten the hair so regular trims are important when growing out the hair
and dandruff is caused by a bacteria called malassezia
The only way to make your hair thicker is by getting a transplant where hair follicles from another part of your body is implanted into your scalp. But you can keep your hair from thinning by using minimal heat, minimal chemicals, brushing your hair everyday to disperse your natural oil, and avoiding wearing your hair up a lot. Also getting regular trims will keep your ends looking fuller :)
Thank u for this video it just saved my life keep it up 😁😁😁😁😁😁😁
Don't listen to this fools, most of the stuff they declared as myth are actually very true. Research for yourself.
Omg love this video, I found it extremely helpful ❤️
You know what the funniest thing happened to me after this video An advertisement of a shampoo which promises to give a thick and puffy hair appeared on the screen 😂😂😂😂
🤣🤣🤣
I know hair doesnt grow from the down but cutting split ends makes hair accually grow faster+ Healthier When I use a hair dryer my hair gets frizzy for a week later and annoyimh You CAN get your hair thicker. I used olive oil and it helped me sooo much But I When I whash my hair with cold Water it gets less frizzy once its dry then If washed it with warm water This is not meant as a hate
When women combed there hair lots each night it was with a boar bristle brush that did distribute the natural hair oil to the tips protecting the hair.
Tnx for the advice brightside😊😅
