Better Call Saul is the prequel to the award-winning series Breaking Bad, set six years before Saul Goodman (Bob Odenkirk) became Walter White's lawyer. When we meet him, the man who will become Saul Goodman is known as Jimmy McGill, a small-time lawyer searching for his destiny, and, more immediately, hustling to make ends meet. Working alongside, and often against, Jimmy is "fixer" Mike Erhmantraut (Jonathan Banks), a beloved character introduced in Breaking Bad. The series will track Jimmy's transformation into Saul Goodman, the man who puts "criminal" in "criminal lawyer."

Chuck Attempts A Risky Play | Fifi | Better Call Saul

Notice how well Chuck can manage his “condition” when he’s working against Jimmy.
Jimmy stresses him out!! Remember when they were working on the case and Chuck was in his flow getting case files out of the car and forgot about his condition up until the SECOND Jimmy called his name!
And like that time when he was working WITH Jimmy?
That’s because it’s completely MENTAL
The doctor told Jimmy he was enabling Chuck's "condition" when he was mentally ill.
The law is sacred!!!
Jimmy gets the rep of being a con man, but Chuck showed himself to be just as cunning and confident, just as long as he was following every iota of the law.
Con means confines of the law in Chuck’s case
Chuck is just lawful, doesn’t mean he’s a good person
@@nont18411Chuck may not be a “good” person but he is a realistic, morally ambiguous person… Chuck held grudges against Jimmy but who wouldn’t after what Jimmy did to their parents? On top of that, Chuck was right about Jimmy cutting corners and cheating to get ahead even before their faking out
I wonder if their mother was a little of a con(wo?)man. These genes gotta come from somewhere
Both playing the same game, thats why Chuck hated Jimmy, he saw his own shittyness in him but Jimmy didn't have the suit and tie to legitimize it
I love how Howard is visibly concerned for a moment there before he realizes what Chuck is doing and starts playing along
And some folks will say that “Howard did nothing wrong”. Even Howard himself knew that he did something wrong. “I sided with Chuck too often?”
@nont18411 Is that any worse than anything Jimmy has done? If we apply the same standards to every character, Jimmy does not come out looking good. Howard is pretty high up. In fairness though, so is Kim.
@Soulful_Sorrow Chuck may not have done criminal things, but his arrogance hurt people and nearly destroyed his own firm before Howard forced him out. He's no better than Jimmy in terms of manipulating, using and hurting people for his own benefit.
And less than a couple years after, one self immolated, and the other got humiliated and was buried under a laundromat. lol
@@nont18411he was doing it for HHM not for Chuck
Slippin' Chuck
Fluster Chuck!
As soon as my mind processed what I read, it did a hard cut to Chuck falling and hitting his head and I burst out laughing in the bus
Chuck showing a little bit of showmanship.
And he gets to be a lawyer? What a sick joke!
Yeah let's be honest, lawyers and conmen, what's the difference?
“These days, the penalties for even the most honest of errors can be devastating.” Foreshadowing.
glad someone else noticed this!
That "hang on" from Howard at the end is such a short utterance, yet Patrick Fabian absolutely *packed* it with emotion
Legally, Chuck was right, but morally, he was wrong. He only did this once he found out Jimmy and Kim would be practicing in the same building. A way to hurt Jimmy.
Chuck did good, legal things with bad intentions Jimmy (pre Saul) did bad, illegal things with good intentions
To be quite fair with Chuck in this one, Howard got a meeting with Mesa Verde and Chuck did do his best to get them back.
@pliniojr95 For his own gain not for HHM or Howard even when he helped him. His hidden cloak of righteous covers his desire to control and keep Jimmy down no matter who gets caught in the crossfire.
@@pliniojr95HHM was doing good without Mesa Verde business which practically Kim is the one who find it through her connection and hard work. Chuck wasn't even plan to retook it from her, he even complimenting her and scolding Howard when he tells Chuck about losing it to Kim. But the moments Chuck hear that Jimmy is the one who she partner with, Chuck immediately call him svengali and planning to take Mesa Verde whatever it takes
The thing is, all of Chuck and Howard’s points are valid. They do have experience and knowledge and resources and connections that would help smooth any problems over, and the show makes it pretty clear that they’re right: Mesa Verde’s expansion was too much for a single lawyer to manage. Kim did better than anyone would expect, sure, but she needed help and it was eating up all of her waking hours just trying to stay on top of it all.
1:26 Chuck and Howard realizing they're not in Breaking Bad (colorized)
Neither is Kim, but they don't have the safe passage writers afford to wumben
She is technically cause she’s alive, where’s Chuck and Howard 💀💀
This is an amazing play from Chuck!! He COULDN'T denigrate Kim Wexler as she was there employee so he consistently gave her praise and instead gave himself critcisim saying he is old and does financial readings for fun and his decades of experience so he is constantly praising himself WHILE criticising himself... Then him stating that they will save several thousands of dollars by doing things gives them confidence... It's crazy because while he did this to throw Kim Wexler under the bus but as soon as he got his address wrong.. This scene replayed in his head and they got rid of HHM as their legal counsil due to incompetence!
On top of them firing Chuck for being condescending to them in court.
I mean, badmouthing ex colleagues is very unprofessional and this would tell more about Chuck than Kim herself. And Chuck, despite Kim being Jimmy's girlfried, always treated her fairly, thanks to him she got out of Doc Review before she left HHM. Howard was the one who pushed her around.
Howard and Chuck were quite the double act when they were firing on all requisite cylinders together.
2:06 “ These days the penalties for even the most honest of errors can be devastating “ They were setting it up, man. Right in front of us

Jimmy is Chuck's reflection, so to speak. Is he brilliant? Yes, absolutely. But he and Jimmy share a talent of salesmanship. They're essentially the same. The only difference is Chuck uses the law to justify moral wrongs, and Jimmy uses what's morally right to justify what may be illegally wrong. This scene is a perfect example. This was a dirty move to take Mesa Verde from Kim. Legal? Yes. But was it right? NO. That's when his "condition" kicks in. He almost collapsed when the Mesa Verde reps left...because deep down he knew that what he and Howard did was FOUL. And for alllll his never ending prattling about the law and doing the right thing...his incessant lectures to Jimmy and his judgement, he and his brother are cut from the exact same cloth, and that fact literally PAINS him---hence, the "condition". That condition goes by a more common name: a conscience.
2 sides of the same coin

genius move. Make people interested in the youtube clip, but have bad audio, so this makes people go watch the scene and show for real.
The Houston Astro’s team edited the video 🤭
it takes place in 2004 audio wasnt as good back then
This is just foul play of the lowest order. Undermining a colleague for personal benefit, especially when the client has no reason to doubt them, is one of the most despicable business practices in any industry.
Chuck deserved what he got, this was so spiteful and petty and he only did this when he found out that Kim was working with Jimmy
Why was the audio encoded at such a low quality... sounds compressed as all get out
just imagine Chuck at his prime the best of the best sharp as an axe
chuck always looked down on jimmy he got what he deserved
Who JImmy or Chuck.
They both ended up bad
Nah, Chuck was right about Jimmy. Chuck loved him as a brother, as Jimmy loved him back, but Jimmy with a law degree really was like a chimp with a machine gun.
@@rvfharrier but it was chuck who keep sabotaging jimmy
@@rvfharrier Only because Chuck pushed him along that path. Chuck created his own self fulfilling prophecy. How can Jimmy take any other path when the path he chose is blocked by Chuck? How is Jimmy supposed to see any merit in law abiding when his law loving brother betrays him and admits pure disdain for him? Chuck has a part in the creation of Saul Goodman. We see Jimmy trying his best to stay straight up until he learns of Chuck's betrayal.
Imagine how crazy Kevin and Paige thought Chuck was. After this spiel, and his blow up. And then they get kim doing everything perfect
And this is what leads to Howard on having Chuck retired. His mental illness can no longer be hidden and Chuck went ballistic on doing anything to stay as a lawyer even if his actions bring harm to others.
That shot looking down the table through the lights it makes my brain fuzzy, something in the shapes of it 🤷🏻🤌🏻 (Edit for spelling sorry)
Get your foil lined jacket on
This is where Chuck (and Howard) earned everything they ended up getting in the end.
You think Chuck's condition just happens to fall like that?
No he orchestrated it, Chuck! He hates his brother! I should have stopped him when I had the chance!
Vince and the other writers are brilliant. Let’s make this character Chuck the smartest legal mind in New Mexico, but he happens to walk around scared of light while wearing a crinkly aluminum foil.
the foreshadowing in this scene is unreal
What a terrific show this was!
You are too big for one individual to handle unless that one individual is James Morgan McGill.
The expression "damning with faint praise" is well known. This is an example of praising with faint damnation.

I love it. Chuck is talking down on himself by being so boring, but "boring" is exactly what is needed when you want a lawyer for a bank, and not exciting ;)
spot on. when banking becomes exciting, troubles are coming

Lawful Evil at its best. Not breaking a single rule, but every bit as selfish and manipulative as most villians.
Chuck isn't really comparable to any of the other main characters in these shows, especially the villains. His only crime was being a dick, which doesn't make him a villain.

Slippin' Chuck, those brothers were danger, Howard was confused at first but then he knew it was business going on
As it turned out later, he is absolutely right. Kim was very talented, but everyone has ups and downs. And in certain moments when she was not in the right mood, there was no one to take care of the legal matters for them.
After watchilg BCS straight through twice, I'm still not sure whether EM hypersensitivity is a real thing. But after BB and BCS multiple times, I still believe the Surgeon General was right about cigarettes.

It wanst risky play. It was the ONLY play that Chuck alone could have pulled off
Howard barks at Ernie like he Kim Jong Un with his translator
You know, Chuck is a lot more like Jimmy than he would ever admit. Think of how conniving and duplicitous he is in this play. And the way he manipulated them into doing what he wanted. Just like the guy with the mouth. He’s slipping Jimmy, it’s just that his code of ethics is the law and Jimmy’s is his moral compass.
