Sorry Scotty I use to really like your channel:the old cars were way better when they didn’t have all that complicated computer crap : The haters aren’t going to hate it when they realise FSD can picup-drop off at the airport and you won’t have to pay that expensive long term parking including CBD , saving tens of thousands, no 100’s thousands $ think it’s impossible ? The ECM/ECU probably needs to be recapped (all polarized electrolytic capacitors replaced with slightly higher voltage upgrades) and solder joints reflowed on all heat dissipating devices. Good idea to also spray some contact cleaner in the multi-pin connectors, then apply new dielectric grease.

That Honda actually sounds really nice.
If the car computer is bad, we need reprogramming or whole computer replacement. That's a pain in the pocket. I prefer antique carburetor cars. Classics run good with less expensive repairs. But never crash in a classic car.

I have a 1996 Lincoln Town Car with 217,000 miles. It’s had the catalyst below efficiency code for the last 100,000 miles. I actually got rid of it for awhile without clearing the codes but it’s come back recently. Still getting 23-25 mpg highway and 18 in town. Average 21-22 in warm weather. Drops down to 19-20 in winter when it does more idling and doesn’t get warmed up as fast. Still plenty of power. Good ole 4.6 2V Panther platform!
I used to have a 2012 Camry. Watched your channel a lot and learned a lot. I now have a 2015 Lexus es 300h. Can you make a vide on how to change a battery filter and clean the battery fan?

I call them "WARM-AIR-INTAKE" as the filter sit inside next to the engine and pulls warm air from there, originally airfilterbox usually pulls air from a funnell that takes air from outside. Well the engine usually makes a "tougher" noise with warm-air-intakes.. and that is preferred for many carowners.

Scotty! Can you tell me how different oil Certifications. I have a Citroen C3 where the timing belt is bathed in oil. Some say different oils will degrade the belt, but how do I determine wheather to be worried or not? I for example was to top up the engine oil, where the manufacture recomends D3 certified oil, but I used D4 certified oil.

The only problem with driving with emission related trouble codes for the next 10 years is that some localities will forbid you from doing so. Move, sell car, or try to fix it? Seafoam, seafoam, seafoam
Scotty, I have a 2012 GMC Acadia Denali. I've seen that one of the flaws is the timing chain. I had sticker shock after needing an alternater replaced so I started watching videos on common problems just to see what to watch for. I've noticed that periodically the vehicle will idle rough for 10-15 upon starting. Is this my crystal ball telling me that the repair may be coming? And if so, how much is this procedure? Thanks again for making your videos.

@@mrgarrison3516 I had the oil analyzed 3 different times before I had the oil changed at approx 5K each time. Numbers were within range. (as all engines have some blowby). Scotty said it happens when the engine is cold and you jump on it. I always let the engine warm up to temp before going on the expressway. I don't jump on it hard, but do drive 70-80. Honda dealer ship said the 2017 was when they had serious problems with oil dilution. I think I had a software update when I first got the car and Scotty mention that was to allow the engine to get warmer faster. This is my first CVT and I was more concerned about that. They recommend a 'drain and fill' every 30K. I guess they have that figured out now as I have had zero problems. I do change the oil every 4500 to 5000 miles. Seems like cheap insurance.... I got 70K on my original brakes and they tell me I have a lot of life in them yet. Never had cars brakes last that long before.. Been a great car for me.

The Accord V6 for those years had some issues.
I know I’m dreaming, but I believe every dealership that sells used cars should have a mechanic like Scotty on staff to use the scan toll and have the mechanics fix the problems before the vehicle is sold. Clone Scotty!
Can always depend on Scotty for more insight into how electronics are great, when they work, but can also be a huge pain in the neck when trying to diagnose problems.

Sounds like bad grounds or bad ECM/PCM any spikes from alternator I had a battery with broke plate inside messing system up but crank enough for starting it. Dealer gave up said there no issues mine only acted up at slow speed as I went accelerate happened so infrequently I started to think it was my imagination turned out to be loose connection replacing everything so infrequent now not sure it may be fix

I almost bought a Honda Fit. Something seemed off, like when some white smoke or steam started to come out of the hood. But when I stopped, no steam. The undercarriage had some rust, but nothing in the trunk. Makes me think that fit came from Florida and was flooded with seawater at one time. The other issue was how high the car revved at highway speeds. Went instead and bought a Civic SI

@@davetrayford Debate? There was other issues, like a some bubbling of rust in front of the right side rear tire. For a car that looked great inside, but had rust over the undercarriage, I could not trust it was taken care properly.
I dont think scotty died. He has more left in the tank, and he does preventive maintenance. Lots of mileage to go! Not to mention he can do overhauls if needed

My daily driver is 2005 Honda CRV with 295,000 miles. I commute 65 miles a day round trip, Mon-Fri. Set the cruise at 80 mph and go! I'm the original owner and bought it in Oct 2004. Best car I've ever owned. 👍👍👍
