Also yep many have mentioned Chris Titus Tech made a video about this yesterday, I swear I didn't copy him, these videos take a few days to make 😅. • You should check out his video here though, he actually has a Windows debloat/customization tool he made himself that is much more advanced than my basic script: kzhead.info/sun/abmKipmniJlui3k/bejne.html (Also fun fact I met him at LTX 2023 this year 👍)
One comment? Lemme fix that
fun
Chris Titus actually credits you in the beginning of his video for the English, World install tweak.
Joe, he credited you in the video so I am sure he is fine with it anyways.
I did say that and I didn't think k you did knowing you first posted about and and video making can take days. I may suggest making the video before you Twitt (X) about it to avoid people beating you to it. It can really lower your Viewers if they already saw it.
Back in the Windows 9X days, when you installed Windows, you had the options of choosing which accessories & utilities to install. Unfortunately, Microsoft took that option away. Same thing in Microsoft Office
and what did we end up with... windows 11 has even higher requirements than windows 10, but back then you had the bare minimum and not having to mess around
Ah yes, the era when computer was very weak and the 3D graphics were still in its early stages

"Just take a win when you can." I like that ♥
These videos are amazing. I've tried Windows 11 Pro for Workstations which also doesn't have the third party apps in the start menu but it has all the Microsoft ones and for the ones you can't just uninstall this script is perfect.
people still play swtor?
@@hengry2 Yup! And it's still receiving active updates. I am not one of those players, I used to play old school MMO's including SWTOR, and went looking for one to play the other day. Was surprised to see the game still kicking.
This is a really neat thing to learn about. Thanks for showing us this Joe.
Insanely useful! 👍 Holy cow!
Made my new PC yesterday, and this was really helpful. thanks for the clean screen :D
Basically this is the sure way to be safe because a lot of Windows custom out there like Tiny, Specter, Rectivy, Revision, etc. which some people are a little worried about the custom OS they install. The legal, safe, and very minimal bloatware method is only way. Thanks Joe.
legal doesnt matter
Tiny 11 is basically Windows 11 tho, yeah there are some concern but it's literally just Windows 11 stripped down
Quality content, keep up with the work!
Good job @ThioJoe. Your channel is very informative and easy to follow.
I love that you’re using Bliss wallpaper. Occasionally I’ll switch to it and use it for a while. Timeless.
Great job on new video! Now when ever I download/install windows for coding I will do what you said!
Man, you are so helpful to simpletons like me. Thank you for your work.
This explains why I constantly see people complain about bloatware, while I never got it. Same with adware and stuff. I live in Belgium, and we have a "special" version of Windows that ONLY comes with Microsoft apps installed. Unfortunately, that "special" version also comes with certain semi-important features disabled/not present, but you can enable/download them through the features in the settings. Example: media player.
Perfect timing because I'm gonna upgrade my M.2 from 128GB to 1TB. And doing this fresh install would benefit this especially removing lots of bloatware since I upgraded from Win 10 to Win 11.
Just clone it and run Chris's script.
@@parkerbohnn nah, I rather do fresh besides I haven't done a fresh install for like 2 years and it would be best since I experienced lots of bsod errors, besides I would keep the other for the enclosure and use it on my steam deck so win win for both my devices.

I wouldnt call it an upgrade 🤣

Meanwhile Microsoft: "From now on when you choose 'World', we'll just install all of the bloatware from every country. " 😂
EU & EC : *HOLD IT RIGHT THERE !!!*
Hello World... Hard computer crash on the first boot after clean instal 😂
Including Australia - wait I had trouble even finding that country in the Microsoft list of country options - world it will have to be
Awesome hints, as easy as possible, besides i love batch/powershell scripts, you got the controll over what it does. Gj!
Nice! What I've always done is install Windows without the internet connection and then remove all the blank icons. Going internet-less also makes setting up your account way easier. But I guess I can now combine both methods!
Instead of using that list, you could use Out-Gridview with an -Outputmode of "Multiple" to allow users to select what to uninstall in a window. $uninst = ($all | out-gridview -outputmode "Multiple), and then run a foreach on the $uninst result.

Too complicated for a basic users :)
That's why he called it a basic script
Anyone capable of running this probably didn't need this comment lol
yeah idk what the fk u just said bruv. that's why.
one thing that might be neat would be having a list of common apps that are known to be problematic and not problematic to remove
Liking the ThioJoe Coding era!
Darn, I could have used this yesterday doing a clean install to test Insider stuff. 😅
This is really cool, and Ill absolutely be using it once 10 is eol, but Im absolutely going to linux on my main desktop for my next os install
Me with an OEM copy with 10x the bloatware: welp…
hi
Thanks for a great tip! Wish I'd know about this before installing Win11 on a new computer.
I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS, THIO JOE THANKS BUD. WHY WEREN'T YOU HERE A FEW WEEKS AGO
It's crazy cause I remember this guy meming back in the day and now he has a legit guide for software lol
Nice Video again! Nice trick! I can CONFIRM, that it works not just with English (World), but works with English (Europe) too as you mentioned. May it works with other continental (English) settings as well, but I did not tried just the EU one. ;)
EU mandate probably demands Microsoft to not install these bloatwares. So you can thank EU for that!
Thanks for sharing this information. Much appreciated.
Nice one! Question, after install, I set the region to anything else than "English (World)" and run Windows Update. That might re-install the bloatware? Especially if it'a Feature Pack / Rollup?
your script is fine but i would seriously advise against using most third party "debloating" tools as the authors often have no idea what they're breaking
Woah, that sounds serious! Have you had something break because of a debloater?
@@goldenalbumen I broke something by just attempting to remove LastPass bloat. A couple of dotDLLs were removed when I tried and then Firefox, Edge and Vivaldi wouldn't open webpages. However I had already installed TOR and it worked fine, then I researched and found what happened and what to do. The solution was to re-install _MS Visual C++ redistributable (x64)_ and that put the DLL files back.
He does already mention to be careful with 3rd party tools. Please be sure to watch the whole video @lordechnobas.
@@goldenalbumen iirc most are just ui elements breaking
@@goldenalbumen for example, anything using AME/ameliorated will break important system components in a ridiculous amount of ways. this can cause games to not work, activation to not work, automatic servicing and repair upon system file corruption to not work, etc. "fixing" these systems is borderline impossible without an in-place upgrade from an iso source or reinstalling the entire system.
Thanks for this information I didn’t know this was possible thanks again 👍
It would be nice if ms gave you a choice to do an advanced install, where you could choose what you want in your windows. I would love a windows light that just do OS stuff.
this was a feature in old 9x versions of windows, i don't know why they removed it. probably to sell more crapware
This might even get me to try Windows again. (I have been using Linux ever since W10 came out). Thank you.
Is it possible also with windows 10? Anybody knows the answer?
Just FYI: I tried this and works well, except that I work in a domain environment, and every time a new user logs in to the computer it sets everything to English (world) formatting and region. Unfortunately, this wont work in our environment but its a great idea. Just wanted to let everyone know.
Thanks for this tip! I had already seen it on Chris Titus's video but I love both of you guys videos, Chris has a great debloat program also to help even more to debloat Windows 11. *EDIT* Chris released a new video today, more Indepth, and he mentions he hear about this from you.
I have also used Chris Titus debloater, in my oppion it is the best out there by far.
Yeah and after that windows feels as smooth as windows 7
excellent, excellent tip man
amazing! thanks for sharing
This "Choose English (world)" option took me by surprice! I've been an IT admin for close to 10 years now, with several decades worth of IT experience, but that little nugget there, is proberly the best thing i have ever seen on a windows install. So thank you very much for that.
I recently was so confused why windows wouldn’t let me run a script I spent two hours writing and now I know they’re disabled by default.
i needed this dude, i got a new laptop and decided to keep WIN11 brcause processor efficency and hated the bs
I thought it was going to be about Tiny11 but pretty cool tbh, I'll need to do this when I upgrade.
Thank you for this video and the script. I just used it to get rid of some bloat, however it seems to be unable to uninstall Edge, even in Admin mode. Fails with the error "0x80073CFA". Also, just 2 tiny things you could have mentioned: For some reason, when PowerShell is in Admin mode, you cannot drop files into it. You have to copy&paste the path. The 2nd thing is that you should probably run the script when PowerShell is in FullScreen, since some of the package names are really long and if you use a small window they just get cut off with ".." at the end, which means you cannot copy the entire name.
0x8007CFA is a address in the assembly programming language, which means Edge is a core part of the OS, I know this because I code daily. :)
Edge is what the operating system uses for file explorer now, so you’re unable to remove it.
@@trustavidityyeah was gonna say tiny11 removes edge by default, so a browser installer of your choice is required
Absolute gigabrain move. Thanks Joe!
Cant believe this channel went from taping batteries to an ethernet cord, to genuinely useful windows tips
Just got a new laptop and this came at the perfect time 🙂
Thanks to some excellent OSS projects, I was able to manually create my own Windows 11 ISO that will: 1. Bypass all Hardware Requirements 2. Skip Product Key request 3. Bypass Microsoft Account Setup requirement 4. Permanently activate Windows 11 via HWID 5. Add a second Language Pack in the Installer to use, since people I distribute this ISO are multilingual I don't even use Windows on my Desktop but such projects are big motivation to start tinkering!
Those hardware requirements, like the TPM & Secure Boot, are there for a good reason. You’re only making it easier for hackers when you needlessly disable those features.
@@50PullUps First of all, if you think that most systems are being hacked due to no TPM & SB, you're delusional. TPM & SB are only now mandatory by Microsoft and older systems will/have never used them. Also, I don't disable any of these features. The ISO is setup to bypass all these requirements so older systems with no TPM & SB can also install Windows 11 and not end up being insecure when Windows 10 goes EOL. You may already know that there are still completely capable newer PCs that after the new mandatory requirements by Microsoft, they suddenly can't upgrade to Windows 11 because Microsoft decided that their CPU is not supported for some stupid reason. Absolute horseshit if you ask me.
@@50PullUps What about older systems? Am I supposed to get a new system when my system is only a year old?
I'm going to go on a limb here and say that as a general rule, it's probably not a good idea to use unofficial Windows ISOs generally in terms of security. Even if you assume that there is no malware packed into it, it's possible that whatever modifications were made to it created additional security vunerabilities, or just not work amazingly well.
@@T4505.Congratulations with your new shiny CCP backdoor! 🎉
Since the bloatware seems to be account specific, I'm guessing if you've changed the region from World to e.g. UK or US that it will unfortunately appear on new accounts? Has anyone tested that?
Not sure tbh
@@ThioJoe The "English (World)" trick should work for all accounts. But for your script, you should add "-AllUsers" option on the "Remove-AppxPackage" command to make sure it gets uninstalled for all accounts, otherwise it's only for the current user account and the files still stay on disk.
It depends on what settings you change, if you only change the current account's region, new account will still start in English(world) which is a seperate setting you can adjust in windows. Configuration->land/region->go to administrative tab -> copy settings on the loginscreen and new user accounts
@@jowjowbro Hmm, yes I think you've cleared it up most of the way, but the rest seems to be good news nonetheless. So on the installation screen, you can only choose World for the time and currency format. Therefore, it seems you'd have to go out of your way and copy region settings in the classic control panel for new accounts just as you've described. I've changed the "Regional Format" in the new metro UI but it doesn't copy or make any difference for new accounts from what I've tested. I can't see a reason to copy to new accounts. If/when someone can't access the store, it tells them why, and they can simply change their "Format" in the metro UI and they're done. 👍
I made a script to do this too, but it's less advanced. Thanks for the tip!
Windows: _Where do you live?_ User: _In the world_ Windows: _Understandable, have a great day_
I don't care who Microsoft sends, I'm not installing Windows 11.
It is honestly infuriating in what direction Microsoft has been going. Not only do we have to debloat our installs, we also have to go into the CMD after installation to be able to skip the stupid online only account creation. When linux drivers get better I'll be waving windows goodbye forever. So tired of it.
Thankfully pro doesn't need a online account (although it'll nag you every so often to make one) So a CMD thing to make it go away huh.. now I'm intrigued.. how to do this?
what kind of drivers are you talking about though?
That's so cool! The first is a simple and great solution, the problem is that I always install in Spanish... I'll check if there is like "Spanish World" haha
Love the B2TF ending!

Can't wait for Windows 11 LTSC, the best edition of windows
It would be helpful to have a list of those packages that are important or critical to know which ones for sure not to delete. I already kinda manually removed a fk ton of bloat besides edge and everything related because windows complains about it and people say "iTs SuPeR cRiTiCaL fOr WiN11 tO fUnCtIoN" which I don't believe but am also unwilling to test it.
It's not. Even tiny11 gets rid of Edge by default so having Firefox or Chrome or some browser installer is required
@@adventureoflinkmk2edge was just an example of what I've seen. but still good to know, I want edge removed lol
'wow thanks bro - this will really help
I'm not sure how, but I found the Control Panel setting for Phone and Modem after uninstalling the phone app (the only one that I truly wanted gone). Thanks for the guide on how to remove that one inconsequential app that has (and never will be) ran.
I'm still sticking with my Windows 10 LTSC, I've never ever used the Microsoft store, and I don't ever intend to.
You can also install "N" version of Windows which comes without bloatware. Because it is so debloated already you will need to install Windows media pack (for app store, wireless displace connectivity, camera drivers etc) from the settings for normal functioning of Windows. Edit: The N version of windows is from Microsoft themselves which is designed for the European market.
is it the LTSC N enterprise?
@@omaewamoushindeiru1108 No, It is just N. It will be something like "Windows 11 Pro N", "Windows 11 Home N", "11 Education N" etc.
You mean that installation comes both with a lack of the first-party media programs and bloatware, even if you select a region other than "world"? That sounds better than having to try and remove all the garbage later, just need to find a cheap key or sail the seas for a copy that can receive system updates.
I've had some bugs with the N version even after installing the media pack, so I ended up just reinstalling on a non-N version all together.
@@FunctionallyLiteratePerson what kind of bug bro?
Hi Joe - great video - followed your instructions, and my new laptop is much cleaner than i could have wished for. Cheers :)
What’s the best way to go about this when you have everything you use already installed and been using it for a long time?
I forget who but I recently saw a video (it might have been LTT) where they took an unbloated windows install and a bloated one on identically hardware and found there was literally no difference in performance between the two. They gave some reasons why it might be different results on different hardware but I have to wonder if the bloatware really effects the performance enough to bother.
This is for a clean install. What to do for an already running config?
Excellent Video. Much needed

I assume Windows update grabs the bloatware when you set your region back to your actual country when the update is a large one like a feature update.
Oh man, I just did a fresh install not long ago... Could've done this xd But yea it's fine. Will keep this in mind next time Thanks man

PS option is great, but it could be just shrunk to one line. Sometimes there is no real need to overcomplicate things, and in this scenario OGV and pipes will work just fine, but it's a great effort anyway
In the Powershell screenful of 'installations', I noticed "Microsoft Sound Recorder". What is this, for I assume it is not the (Dictation) 'Voice' recorder'? There has been Feedback asking for a Sound Recorder in the Snipping Tool). Anything to do with that?
