Today I give a go at making tongs for the blacksmith shop out of titanium! I figured a material that is light and strong should be a good fit for tongs, as I'm always wrecking mine. I start by heating the titanium up in the forge, then by carefully forging the titanium with my power hammer, I forge them out of this 1" round titanium. Then working with grinder and belt sander make them look a little bit better than just forged. Hope you enjoyed this video! Thank you for watching.

Theres no going around it this time. I need a NEW PHONE! Hahaha
It got the old ax lol
If you happen to forge an axe of titanium, I want to see another phone destroyed. Will be well worth it ;)
@@bryanmartin2943 he did that.
@@jacobmcconeghy7728 oooooo perfect ! Only new to channel will go back and watch :))))))))
get a new phone and make a titanium protective case for it ... would be a fun little project :P
Next time on Tool Time with Tim: Making a Titanium Anvil
i would't be surprised!
Or at least titanium power hammer dies!
I seriously wonder how good an anvil would be if titanium was forge-welded on top of it. With its low thermal conductivity, less heat is transferred to the anvil and I wonder how much longer it could increase your working time for hot steel.
Tim, don't be too hard on yourself. You're quite talented, your projects are generally winners, and your channel is entertaining. Every time you feel discouraged while working in your shop, remember there is at least one person watching who is severely handicapped and can't leave my chair to go to my shop which is 30 feet away. Think of people like us, and you'll have nothing worth worrying about!
Tim Peeing himself laughing at flame anodising, it's been a long day. I get that Tim, just roll with it, sometimes we just have to laugh till we cry and then get on with the work. Peace bro!
The titanium projects are freaking awesome. It builds character
Tongs turned out beautiful, but the ax you made i`ts a masterpiece Timothy
Next time on tool time with Tim, making a tungsten anvil to make the pain go away.
Dude you’re like a magician.
The flame intro 🔥🔥
This channel is wayyyy to underrated
Best titanium hammer ever 😍
Those tongs came out DOPE!!!! Love the anodized look. And holy cow that axe cut that phone so cleanly in half!!! I'm gunna need one of those axes lol
Loved the bit with the axe at the end
We know you love titanium it’s an addiction you’ll never quit! Looks great Tim!

Awesome! A tool fit for the old gods.
Imagine the Blunt you could hold with that roach clip
Awesome, soon all your tools will be made out of titanium.... you already have the hammer, it will be expensively great if someone would sponsor you for a "Titanium Anvil" it will be a great video content i bet... Watching from Philippines 🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭 with ❤❤❤
Alec Steele should have an already forged out titanium anvil just lying around, they never got to use theirs to forge on top of a mountain because it poses to great of a risk of fire
Demolition Matt almost has a tungsten anvil.
Ti is a tough metal to work. It gives back though. Light, strong and doesn't rust. Those tongs are so nice they belong in a dentists office! 👍
If I were at a dentist‘s and they laid out those tongs on the table next to me, I think I‘d faint. 😅
Perfect! Really a good job Tim! And very useful thing as well, light weight, tough and red heat resistant!
Awesome Titanium Tongs !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That's so nice bro to hear titanium
You were one letter away from greatness!!
It's Tool Time with Titanium Tim!
Tim Titanium!
it is pleasure seeing your increased proficiency in working this medium
Boys, you sure think out of the box. Great job and cool content. Also love your style of videos.
These would be perfect for stained glass "Runners". If there was a little flex in the runner head (I know titanium is some flexible stuff) it would be very sellable. Custom stained glass tool would have a market!! I did stained glass work for years, I worked on some priceless windows and lamps. I would pay for tools I could trust.
Titanium Tongs, on Tool Time with Tim! Will it be a smooth and easy project? "I don't think so, Tim." Sorry, couldn't resist ✌️😉 Love the channel, bud!
That call was cut short!! Axe up already Tim!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣😎😎
Time To Try Totally Terrific Timtanium Tongs. Awesome result Tim :-)
Wowsers Tim awesome job. Those look really beautiful. Keep up the great craftsmanship and hard work my friend. forge on. Can't wait to see what you thow in the forge next video.
Wow amazing colors!
Another great video and another amazing project. Always so proud of you and what you are making be it the video quality or the awesome builds. Keep it up!
Perfect timing! 😁
If delirium doesn't set in, you haven't been working hard enough. Thanks for another awesome video, bro. Take care.
I can certainly understand you being done with titanium. Based on your videos, and others, I am officially done before even trying it. Steel is enough of a challenge for me right now.
Man I gotta have a pair of those Tim! Too bad you aren’t going to make a ton of them and sell them. They look freakin sick! And they would be about perfect for my knife making. I might have to get me some Titanium and make a pair myself. The trick with forging Titanium is forging hot hot and slower. Anyway great job Tim and thanks for sharing it. Keep up the good work. Cheers!
Strain rate is a thing. A press may be better than a power hammer
Hahaha tool time with Tim.. throw back to home improvement days
To Tool Time and beyond! ond! ond! Tim D made me laugh so hard with that intro. It was like an unexpected gift from Santa. ;-)
Used to party with a guy that did sheet metal repair on U2 spy planes in the Air Force. He had a bottle opener that he made out of some crazy alloy that they use on the U2. Suspect it was a titanium alloy of some type. Very light weight and super strong.
Aww thats great work you could make aluminum soft jaws in your vice for milling. An cut your own parallels in your jaws give you more rigidity you can use pennies on the uneven surfaces to squish against to hold it tight
I love seeing other people working with TI or harder metals :P Its harder then what people think... Advice for you about the milling is to really clamp the parts down as hard as you can.. If you can move it with a sledge its too loose :P and cool it down a lot and take it slow :) A 0.2mm pass is a huge cut for smaller NC machine if you dont use the proper tools
Welcome to cool tool time with tim
@Tim, this was a really good video, I enjoyed all of it :-) I especially enjoyed the axe work at the end. and the tongs themselves looked really sharp.
Pretty impressive my friend.
impressive lathe skills
Nice work 👌👌
Those turned out sweet, love some burnt titanium.
Great content brother. Keep it up.
Wild Man.
That bolt was a nice touch. I'll be interested to know how it works out for you down the road.
Wow, your videos are outstanding! Really like the production and maybe more specifically the music - especially those first two cuts. Can you mention where the music comes from? Congrats on an outstanding channel, really like your style!
Alternate universe version of Tiny Tim
Never change buddy, we fucking love you! 😆
At last. They look much better than they did back in the first post.
I really need too go sleep Tim!
My! My! So dramatic! Still - love it. Regards.
Sweet! How does it forge, like tool steel or softer. I haven't tried it yet and might have just enough to go for it.. Thanks Tim!!
I laughed so fucking hard when he chopped his phone in half...lol 😂
A pair of these with a wider bill would be great for us sheet metal workers...
How are you liking the Ti tools compared to Steel? Maybe a video going over what you like a don't like about them?
ok but this is actually a good idea
You are Incredible
Getting a sub just for that intro
how is titanium compared to steel, when forging? It seems there is no quench needed once finished, but is there a overall work to remove tension once shapes are made?
What's the long-term review on how these tongs worked out over the last couple years?
Love the tongs mate they look awesome . But Tim anger management clarses are cheaper then phones. (:
Brooo I want one 😳
Hahahah that is by far the best way to say on youtube smash that subscribes button ever!!!! well done for holding back the laughter
Wish he would tell us how long each project takes roughly.
Tool Time with Tim "The Toolman" Dyck
Tim what is the name of the bolt and other bolt thing you made instead of the rivet called? I need that for a project
Oh no Titanium, another 17 weeks build here we come!!!!
Make demacus chain mail and you will be the coolest kid on the tube bro
2:00 *forges titanium with titanium hammer*
넘무 멋있당 히히히히히히
Tim I think we’re all dying to know, how do u have the patience to file titanium?
Nice
Your 2nd and third set downs seemed different than ive ever seen. Do u have a tutorial on that? Nice tongs
Yes on to some steel! So sick and tired of all the titanium on KZhead lately!
Imagine it cracked from forging too cold? Few that I know that forge with it say they only use the upper heat ranges.
So why titanium, it’s cool but do you have a specific reason/use for these tools?
Could that flame anodizing be called "hot bluing" also?
Neat intro. Don't play with fire m8. Not worth it. Save it tough guys.
I don’t have a riveting machine and need that part what can I look up to find that?
Hey Tim, what's flame anodization again?
I wonder how difficult wold it be to forge a titanium shield?
started a new job with titanium scrap. made a sweet cold chisel that would cost buckos for sure.
Uranium is a nice metal to work with
Sorry if I come across as rude but the “cracking” is called a cold shut. Your content is amazing!
@Owen Dejong I never said he didn’t I was just making sure.
Titanium Chainmail!
Can you explain why it's called flame anodising one more time, and slower please?
I think that wrinkly surface texture is from the outer skin cooling off and not moving as fluidly as the hotter core. At least that how it seemed to be when I tried forging since titanium.
Now make a stove that can make charcoal, melt metal and cook food at the same time and if you are up for a challenge then make it do it without using electric tools like a hairdryer or mechanical tools like bellows. If you are a great engineer/inventor then make it compact and have a use time of 80 mins without making heat transfer to the other chambers making it the same temperature as the melting chamber (hottest chamber I geuss)
I like how you cut the phone off
Anyone know a decent plier that can cut titanium alloy. My sister used my Leatherman to cut some and now the wire cutter is kind of jacked up so if there are any suggestions please do tell
@@BloopTube yep I know that you shouldn't use a multitool to cut ti but I didn't know she was going to use it for that. On another note thanks a lot man for telling me about the warranty it's my dad's old Leatherman so I was a bit worried
@@BloopTube that's soo cool of them to do that
is grade 5 titanium really that prone to cold shuts?
👏👏
When i forged some titanium box jaw tongs (admittedly much worse looking than your tongs haha) a while back I found the scale to be a killer to the face of everything it touched. Have you had this issue forging titanium?
How's that hammer working for you? I remember hearing somewhere that Titanium in general is too light to be used in any form of hitting implement, but since you actually HAVE one it feels prudent for me to ask.
I have a Ti hammer myself and it's weird working with it, it feels kind of fake and like totally the wrong tool for the job, but it gets the job done nicely, controls well and barely requires me to swap hands on long work cycles
@@themmgamer1227 Made in Thailand Don't count Dude
