After a dramatic 4-3 win against Liverpool in the Semi-Final, Palace faced Manchester United in the FA Cup Final at the old Wembley stadium and there were no shortage of goals in this one either as a famous Ian Wright brace from the bench put the Eagles on the edge of cup glory.
What a beautiful moment of ENG football. I really love this football era. 👍👍🤗🤗
I was there as a youngster of 16. Also at the replay where I was lucky to have a seat alongside the steps. I gave Mark Hughes my scarf. Great memories.
I was there to it was my first ever game and I was 10 🔰🔰🔰🔰🔰🔰🔰🔰love United hate the glazers
Hell of a game this. Welcome to the big time Ian Wright. Class act.
I miss the days when the FA cup was a major trophy and a massive event. The all day build up on BBC starting with football focus and the countdown to kick off. Great times. I wish clubs still cared as much about it today. It’s such a great trophy.
Lot of the reason it isn't is because it became very political. The FA going out of their way to try and fix matches in favor of clubs they want in the finals and it turned a lot of people off of it
@@victorkreig6089I had no idea that was going on but due to the international fandom of big English clubs it makes sense because its all about money now.
@@anthonymcken6050 that it is, the FA has gone downhill in the past decade really really sad

The game that saved Sir Alex, and a dynasty was born.
I don’t know. That third round tie at Nottingham Forest’s City Ground is the game that EVERYONE was saying if United had lost could have finished him off at Old Trafford. The media were out for Fergie’s blood before that game. Also if Stevie Coppell hadn’t been injured in the early 80s with a knee injury that finished his career, he might well have been part of Alex Ferguson’s squad for this game.Big Ron always said losing Stevie Coppell so early was a tragedy, as he was so highly rated, and I believe Fergie was a big fan of his too.Fergie had also been a big fan of Gary Bailey who was also finished by a knee injury, and he’d offered him the post of goalkeeping coach, but Bailey had declined saying he wanted to go back to South Africa, the country he’d grown up in, although he’d been born in Ipswich(his dad, Roy had won the title in 1962 with Ipswich when Alf Ramsey had been their manager).
Schmeichel would not let in that 1st goal.
Cantona better than Wallace
I was 12. Watched it on tele. When Palace got the 3rd goal i sat in my wardrobe crying my eyes out. Then when Sparky got the equaliser my mam came into room to tell me and i burst out and went mental. 1❤
This was the game that saved Sir Alex career as Manchester United manager. We would have never known how great he would have been had utd sack him.
He wasnt great the other managers were just shit once a modern manager came in the pl like jose saf shit his pants
The glory and prestige of cup final day , and winning it , was every players dream in those wonderful times,.. the build up , the excitement of cup final day was the highlight of the season,....miss those golden times
Totally remember I was praying so hard for Man Utd to score an equalizer. Mark Hughes did it again!
Old Wembley pitch was miles better than new Wembley.
And the whole stadium too...
I was 20yrs old then. Man, time flies! From Singapore.
I was 17 ,yes it does . From Ireland.
Remember watching this god I'm old
Ian Wright Wright Wright!!! His first goal was fabulous
What a great game this was, I was 10,still remember it like it was yesterday, and my first trip to London and Wembley.. I also went to the replay, very scrappy, but who cares when you win, must av been about 3am when we got back to Manchester. Good days, team played with passion unlike these overpaid wallops of today..
The days when the FA Cup actually meant something and Wembley didn't look like just another premier league ground.
This is why I haven't watched Premier league football in years. Same fancy stadiums with trash atmosphere and diving cheats in every game. Football was ruined a few years after this final when the Premier League was born and filthy foreign money began to pour in. The only semblance of real football with real fans is in the lower leagues.
@@Phil_Mitchell Absolutely. I was watching this and other games from the era and teams were generally much more attack-minded. Always looking for that killer pass or setting wingers off the moment they had the ball. Now, it's all about possession and way too tactical. The recent super league BS is something that UEFA themselves have to take some responsibility for. They are the ones that lined the pockets of the bigger clubs at the detriment of clubs from smaller leagues. The Champions League has been a disaster for football ever since it stopped being a league for champions. It's already a European super league. Bangor City's 1-1 draw with Atletico Madrid is still talked about in these parts. We'll never see games like that again.
Too right. Nothing like the old Wembley.
Wembley at present is a crap.
whoa, the F.A cup has history oldest cup competition in world football, ridiculous to try and dismiss like that.
The most career defining turn around for Fergie, this is it.
If united lost this I’m pretty sure it was all over for Fergie. From here, cup winners cup winners v Barcelona and the rest is history.
Hughes' goal at 10:25 could be seen as a key turning point in football history. Had he not scored there, Palace would almost certainly have gone on to win the cup, leaving Manchester United empty-handed for the fifth straight season. I am pretty certain Alex Ferguson would have been fired by United during the summer in that case. The upshot? Well, I think Liverpool's 1990s decline would still have happened - that had pretty much already been set in motion by the traumatic effects of the Hillsborough Disaster - but without Ferguson around, George Graham's Arsenal would probably have become the dominant team of the early Premier League instead of United. Whether Graham would have still have been fired for corruption a few years later, who can say? But there is every possibility that a dominant Arsenal would have had no need to hire Arsene Wenger either. Given the impact Wenger had on player approaches to fitness and diet, his exclusion might have meant the English game today being more like the game of the 1980s.
based on alex ferguson movie, rather he loose or win the game he is still going to be the manager. and there is little story about Jim Leighton wasn't play at the 2nd leg because he is done, and sir alex decided to give the 2nd leg to Les Sealey. Pls watch the movie if you have the chance
His job was safe,he was told that by all above, but, without this he wouldn’t have had the ECWC,and would probably have been still building, they may have given him another season and seen where it was but in no way would it have been what happened without this win !
M
Well this is history boys
interesting theory , except Arsenal capitulated in 91/92. Leeds who won the league that season capitulated in 92/93. And runners up to United in 92/93 Aston villa also couldn't maintain in their next season either. It does boggle my brain to think how different history would have looked had Fergie lost this game and got the sack. I remember Palace had a couple of good seasons too after this one, Norwich also looked promising. But no one looked like perpetual serious challengers to United's dominance before Kenny Dalglish brought Blackburn up. Who knows, maybe Fergie would have been asked to manage Blackburn after he lost his job at United. Also another thing I thought of was that Leeds would have kept Cantona, so maybe it would have been Leeds and Blackburn in the first half of the 90s
Wow, love the final going to a replay.
Ian Wright became my hero then and idol when he went to Arsenal. Happy days 😊
FA cup final used to be a real festival occasion.
Seeing steve copel against sir alex ferguson. Love from #keralablasters Still miss our copel ashan.
This match is rematch in 2016 fa cup histry is very important today or anything in football
I grew up in South London and was fortunate enough to play regularly against Danny Wallace, David Rocastle and Ian Wright. They were all good players but Wrighty was something special. I last played against him when we were 18 as he turned pro quite late and he absolutely turned me inside out in a semi final in Lewisham.
Wow sony PS game fifa98 comentator... legend...
Was great as a kid the whole day build up on tv magic of fa cup gone once champion league came in
What great memories
If memory serves me right, wasn't the 2 semis played on the same day. Palace beating the pool 4-3, followed straight after with United drawing with Oldham I think. FA Cup was so special back then

Wow Sir Alex Ferguson the greatest looks so young. Even tho Man Utd was a average mid table club those days, U can tell United are still a European heavyweight club with history and heritage
Hughes had such a phenomenal first touch
What A momen. Ian wright always score coming from bench.
Unfortunately I wasn't at Wembley to see the final but we did see the replay at Wembley, Palace did lose but played their hearts out, great day's of football with no VAR, no rainbow armbands and rainbow lases, FA cup sadly isn't the same anymore.
They did not, they played rough tactics, tried to unsettle Sealey,it didn’t work, you either heard a story or never watched the replay…
@@shanet5604I agree.. I'm a Palace fan and was at both games.. The replay was a massive disappointment after this one... We tried to kick our way through it.
This was the match when Arsenal started taking an interest in Ian Wright, Man Utd was immense at the time of this final. They dominated English football throughout the 90's
They were nowhere near immense ,they finished 6th from bottom that season…
The day the FA decided not to let teams switch shirts at the end of the final was the end of the FA cup as we new it. That was when sponsorship became more important than spirit. The FA took the biggest club football occasion in the world and flushed it down the toilet. Money money money 💰
Same with premier full of foreigners just here for the money
Always preferred the old Wembley!..
And I was there. First time at Wembley but I'd been to all the other round games and this was a brilliant day...
Amazing final Manchester United ❤❤❤❤❤
The year when everything began to move in the right direction, for united & me.happy days.😅
These two games inspired me to be a man utd fan till date via the BBC
Gary Pallister.what a bloke.
I was playing the Atari ST game Kick Off 2, the main team was packed with Palace players.
Had the Amiga for that ! Savage game !
Had things been different, Coppell could've been in our squad that day. Tragic he was injured as such a young age.
Real football, real fans.
The crystal boy was crying by the fencing, when palace equalised...steadfast loyalty.....
People often overlooked just how good mcclare was
4:24 what type of ball bounce is that
How England didn't win anything in the 90s (or even qualify for the '94 World Cup!) despite having Arsenal's defense, Man United's midfield, and having Shearer, Wright, Sheringham, etc. as strikers is beyond me
The champions team had already been shaping,
I saw this match ,United won it in a replay.
So close, we even hit the post near the end.
I remember that clearly... When I was a teenager

Jim Leighton doing a David de Gea improv.
And I thought we did well in the transfer season! I know some where Varane /Martinez will gt hurt/ suspended and we will be playing with him and after 1 or 2 splendid performances him we will be humiliated. I couldn't see anymore goals by him.
Captain Marvel, sparky, legends. Now I remember why Fergie bought in Peter Schmichel, Jim Leighton was crap.
Jim Leighton was unlucky in that match. His offday and he was off back to Scotland soon after.
Fergie made a good call Leighton was doggy on crosses throughout that season, Jim Leighton never spoke to Fergie after he dropped him for the reply.

I was at the game, proudest moment as a fan, only beaten by beating Liverpool in the semi at villa park. Three things- John Motson spotted that Gray was fouled in the build up to Utd’s first goal which the ref missed. What was Nigel Martyn rushing out for when Hughes scored?, as O’Reilly put him off enough. If Nigel has stayed on his line he wouldn’t have scored. Lastly, in all the highlights I have watched, they never show Gray missing a sitter from 8 yards out, unmarked, unchallenged very late on. Oh what could have been… forever a fan. Replay was awful from both sides, could have gone either way and we never wore that shocking wasp kit again
And then Arsenal signed Ian Wright for £2.5m and the rest is history.
For who ?? Can’t be Arsenal,United went way ahead after this !
They have best tv record in 90s century with HD version😂
FERGUSON MASIH MUDA BANGET😃
So it ended 3-3? Who won?
I honestly don't recall if I've seen this vid before or commented on it, but I have to say that this is a day that lives in my memory without equal, because I certainly watched the game! From a motel in Geelong, in Victoria Australia, in company with my wife and kids, and her oldest sister and husband, live and uninterrupted. Because that day I had been invested with my MBA, the pinnacle of twelve years of part time study whilst bringing up said family and dragging them across Oz in pursuit of my career ambitions. I was also a prestigious prize winner and luxuriated that evening and into the early hours in a haze of pleasant satisfaction. The game was just electric. A Palace win would have been a total fairy tale and I still think this was one of the great finals, although it gets talked about very little. The replay was a typical anti-climax but detracted not at all from my enjoyment of the big day. Just say 1990 to me and I'm immediately transported to that halcyon night. Oh, and of course the semi was a bit special too...
i read the news, when i was 7.

04:19 whenever Wallace be it’s a dangerous look 👀 for all goals he is behind
I thought that he developed into an excellent attacking midfielder, doing some incisive passes. Then, he went. 😒
The pitch looked massive back then!! Hahaa
For real. As a kid watching the FA Cup the size of the pitch always seemed imposing to me.
Fail to see why Palace were the underdogs as they finished above their opponenent…?

And don't forget it took sir Alex a few years to completely remodel the club before he started seeing winning results he was actually close to being replaced so ten hag needs the time and backing 100% with the players he wants to bring in and also the many players that need selling I wrekon 3 seasons at least to build up a new squad that's how bad it's been under the glazers it's defiantly not the case of bringing one of two players in and that will turn us around it's a case of getting rid of at least 7 or 8 and then bringing in at least that many quality players in to the club before well even be able to start challenging for titles he's worked miracles this season with the thread bare squad he inherited but I wrekon that this team has hit its plato he can't get any more out of it he's even said as much with his statement that in this era of the premier you need mega wealth to even compete with city , Newcastle and chelsea that's the kind off money you need to spend otherwise you'll become a mid table team full stop

Not in those days. English clubs were still banned from European competition so the Football Association milked the FA cup for all it was worth with replays. The second match was boring compared to this.
@@swordbeach4709 That's not the reason. The FA Cup had always had replays throughout its history before this time, and the idea of bringing in shoot-outs to settle things on the day hadn't really occurred to anyone yet. FA Cup "sagas" with two or three replays to decide a tie were an integral part of the competition. When English clubs were dominating Europe in the 70s and early-80s, there were no shoot-outs in the FA Cup either. Look at Arsenal v Liverpool in the 1980 semi-final; it took four games to settle the tie, and that was fully five years before the ban.
