  • Tony! This is the best thing that ever happened to me. As a teen living with grandparents they had a s beautiful LTD Landau and a Colony Park. I grew up with these big beautiful boats. I cant wait to see you work your magic.

  • I would bet that the Mercury sat on the lot for a while and when prices increased they printed a new window sticker to reflect that change.. It will make an excellent parts car. Of course it is savable but the cost would exceed what it is worth. Glad you were able to find it. Looking forward to future videos. BTW the duct tape is a wonderful story. Poor kid at least tried.

    @jeffsmith846@jeffsmith84610 күн бұрын
    • 🤣 lmao! I felt so bad for that poor kid. A couple of others have mentioned that price increase. I never realized they did that. But I wasn't buying brand new cars back then. Lol

      @tonyscarcare5657@tonyscarcare565710 күн бұрын
  • When there was a price increase, the factory would send out revised window stickers for cars that were in transit or that had recently been delivered to dealers. Sometimes, they would send revised stickers for all unsold new cars still in dealer stock no matter the original production date. That original sticker looks to have been wadded up. Maybe it was accidentally left in the car? The Mercury looks to have a Ford steering wheel center medallion with the inverted V crest.

    @danielulz1640@danielulz164010 күн бұрын
    • Someone else said that about the sticker. I learned something there! I'll double-check the steering wheel on my black 78 Grand Marquis. Thanks!

We were in high school then and on Friday night we went out cruising all around in Roxborough which is North West Section of Philadelphia. Oh to be in high school in the late 70’s was crazy. • The interior parts from the mercury should be a really good upgrade for your country Squire, really going to come together nice, the Mercury also has some really good parts that could be very valuable to someone if their car were to be collision damaged, you have some good parts that would be impossible to find if a car were sideswiped ,front clip, doors, rear panels, trunk, hood, and many other good pieces

  • Love this wagon. It has so much presence. In late 1979, I bought a plain base model '79 Thunderbird from the back lot at a Ford dealership in Tulsa, passing over the 1980 T-Birds, which I considered to be unspeakably ugly. Over the subsequent years I added an upgraded stereo system, replaced all the speakers, added intermittent wipers, power windows and door locks, using none other than kits from JC Whitney. With patience and perseverance, I gradually upgraded the T-Bird to where it had the level of comfort and conveniences I considered essential. Good luck to you and I'm looking forward to your upgrades and improvements on this beautiful vehicle.

  • I'm interested to see how the transfer of parts will go, especially the back seat. FYI, that side molding which is falling off may be a Ford parts kit, which was offered back in the day. Of course, you could buy two rolls of it at a parts store (or JC Whitney, as you mentioned) and install it. I think the Marquis was delivered without any radio. I think the reason that there are two window stickers is that Mercury increased the prices and send a new window sticker to the dealer. They used to do that for certain cars, I assume for those which were produced right before the prices were updated.

    @DSP1968@DSP196810 күн бұрын
    • Wow! I've never seen two different window stickers before, but I reckon you may be right. I'm sure the back seat will have to go to a professional to have the material altered.

    • @@tonyscarcare5657 for sure! I've always been a Ford guy but g body cars were so cheap back then I had to love them. I parted out and scrapped so many of them for next to nothing compared to what they bring now. Same with dent side ford's. My first truck build was one of them. I built it from 15 or more other trucks, sold some parts, threw together a couple work trucks out of them and scrapped what was left. I could retire off the dent sides, fox mustangs and g body's I destroyed back then. They were just so cheap and plentiful back then and I was poor. There's no way I could've known they would be valuable one day. Not that I would've had a way to safely store them the last 25 years while they went up in value. Haha

  • Having owned a 1978 Ford Country Squire wagon with the optional Landau Luxury Group in that exact same interior color maybe i can be of some assistance. Our car was dark jade green exterior though with the wood panelling. I can atest that the speaker grills are supposed to be green in color. Also the Ford's Landau Luxury group did NOT give you cigarette lighters in the rear door panels. Another point, you will need to transfer over the steering wheel center pad/horn bar as the Ford's Landau Luxury Group gave you the wood grain steering wheel. Our car did NOT have cruise control but had the wood grain center bar nonethesame. LTD's and LTD Broughams had the non woodgrain accents in the center of the wheel. And yes the embroidary on the back of the front seats was a beautiful scroll pattern that you'll just have to do without in this swap. No biggie but i do think the LTD's pattern looked nicer than the Mercury's hood ornament design on the seats. Love how the car is coming along though.

    • Thank you! Believe it or not, I have multiple NOS Luxury steering wheel centers new in the Ford boxes, as well as the dash woodgrain. I've been collecting this stuff for many years. The Landau Luxury Group used the same steering wheel wood trim as the Grand Marquis and Marquis Brougham. I didn't think that Ford gave you the lighters, which is fine with me.

    • Correct me if I’m wrong, I think the reason they did not have cigarette lighters in the backseat of the station wagon’s is because by that point in 1978 children were not smoking anymore?

  • Tony, I spent over 40 years in the floor covering business in different capacities. I replaced the carpeting in a 1999 Taurus because of stains. The OEM carpet from Ford was cheap and I wanted a nicer quality. I replaced the original with a luxurious home carpet of the same color and it turned out fabulous. You have a 35 ounce cut pile carpet in that 78 wagon. You will probably find the original carpet to have a rotted jute back to it even though the top green color looks decent. It will have a bad smell to it, as well. You can use new home carpet padding with a new 35 ounce cut pile carpet from your local carpet store as a replacement. It won't be cut to fit, but if you would consider new carpet this way, it sure looks nice.

  • Carpet is not what it used to be at all. The lush plush stuff is no longer around so grab what you can out of the wrecking yards to replace the bits and pieces that wear through.

    • That's what I'm trying to do, but I definitely needed carpet.

  • Hi Tony, Great find in the Mercury Marquis sedan. Would this car be salvageable as the body looks pretty good ? I know you intend to use it as a parts car however I have always liked that body style. That green color seems to be pretty rare both inside and outside. Perhaps you could advise me as to where to source 2 rear air deflectors for my 1987 and 1991 Ford Crown Victoria wagons ? Thanks, Phil.

    • Thanks, Phil! This car will definitely be parted out. I already have guys speaking up for parts. Honestly, I don't know where there are any late 80s or early 90s. Wagons are sitting at this time. I'm sorry I don't have better news for you.

    • Thanks for the reply Tony. Keep me in mind should you hear of any or come across any. Good luck with the Country Squire rebuild. Hope you get it to your car show.

  • What is wrong with the donor car that makes it not worth saving? Looks like it has some good parts

    @WhittyPics@WhittyPics9 күн бұрын
    • The rest of it will be parted out for people needed to repair other cars. I pointed out everything in the video that's wrong with it. It would never be worth what it would cost to put back on the road, let alone restore it.

  • The ford LTD landau had the rear cigarette lighters

    • I believe the earlier ones had them, but I can't find any mention of them in my 77 dealer brochure.

  • Almost a shame to mutilate that Mercury interior, considering the excellent condition and all original.

    @DG-sf9ei@DG-sf9ei2 күн бұрын
    • I wouldn't call it mutilation since it's building my dream wagon, and the Mercury would cost a fortune to put back on the road, let alone being in desperate need of a costly paint job. I'm planning to do another video on the Mercury itself to see if it will run and what works or doesn't work.
