All across America hunters kick off the fall hunting season with a weekend of doves, friends, and food. Steve's lifelong friend, Ronny Boehme has invited Steve out to his digs in Virginia for the dove opener. To prep for opening day, Steve and Ron spend a day brushing up on their shooting skills on a sporting clays course followed by a pigeon hunt. Steve shares simple, delicious cooking methods for doves and pigeons.

Whoever made the decision to upload this series on KZhead and made this free for us to watch, I thank you. This show is an inspiration for us who likes to go to the outdoors. And for me, was instrumental for overcoming my depression due to the lockdown. Thank you so much 😁😁 ❤️❤️ from the 🇵🇭
Totally. This is very generous. So much quality for free.
they are all available on themeateater.com tho, also there u dont have to wait for them to upload one episode at a time.
@@admir2323 Oh, thanks! I did not know that, but I guess it was for the best because if I did, I would just watch it all in a day or two 😂
Thank Steve ! Hes the man in charge
I actually.... moved out of California to start hunting.
Best line: “Alright, let’s pick up shells.” Respect. I wish everyone had this respect.
It’s not about respect, it’s about saving $$. He reloads them
@@leomidure it is def about respect, this is such a respectful hunting show for sure
I hate it when I go out hunting and there are shells all over the ground.
If it was respect, they wouldn't be using lead
@@liamfisher917 fair. i wondered the same, suppose its harder to melt steel at home.
Ron is the best! He checks his cell phone, gets stung by a bee, stomps out the bee, and then quickly grabs his shotgun and shoots down a dove. LMFAO
That English guy was cracking me up, love seeing someone get on Steve the way he gets on other people. Steve takes it all in stride and used it to advance his shooting. That's what it's all about
The lead dripping out into shot is wildly satisfying
40-50 years ago I read about the multi story tall shot towers that were used to produce commercial shot. When I saw this when it originally aired, I was thinking WTF? Anything with Ronnie and his fancy dogs is gonna be good.
@@lunkydog. You can find videos of that here on KZhead they did it exactly like you said.
Steve is literally a professional hunter and has the humility to go get trained by a shooting pro. Mad respect!!
Hey Jacob, we really like to come down to hunt some doves for few days. Where should we go? Please help
@@peterusa123 you misspelled google
@@si8086 thank you for your response 😁
You can never have to much training
You should pre-heat those casting molds (muffin tins) so you don't get steam explosions like that.
Yeah cold molds with hot lead makes condensation that pops pretty good plus no safety glasses.
As a Virginia hunter this episode is even more great than usual
Right!
To the place I belong , oh West Virginia
Exactly I’m a Virginia hunter myself and it is better than other episodes
@@MrThatnativeguy *west Virginia
@@MrThatnativeguy are you another person that doesnt know west Virginia is a state
That bee sting was hilarious!! 🐝🐝🐝
Hello Jackie how are you doing today.
Dove hunting is a freakin’ blast, even though they can make even the most polished shooters look like beginners...super tasty little morsels too!
Are they gamey at all, or pretty mild?
@@ipdjbt fairly mild. You can cook them with no seasoning and they still taste good. Poppers are a tradition but I also like to bake them with butter, onions, pepper, garlic, salt and pepper
@@ipdjbt I sure don’t find them gamey, mostly just a mild “fowl” taste...like Jaymes said, they are super universal to cook with too. I like to fry mine up like little nuggets and season them according to the day’s taste preference
Ron is fuckin' hilarious. I see why he's a sought after hunting partner.
When he got stung by that bee that was hilarious
Good on him for not having his gun in his hands as he was doing his "hot brass dance" too!
Growing up in VA, when I was a kid I was my dad's bird dog during dove season. He got me my first dove gun, a 20g, when I was 8 years old. For those who dove hunt, it's a deep tradition and helluva lot of fun.
“Oh Shenandoah, I long to see you, away you rolling river” This episode makes me miss home in the blue ridge
THANK YOU SO MUCH! BEST HUNTING SHOW IN THE WORLD HANDS DOWN!!!!!
Ion and. N. Ju
Ron is such a dad.
Happy to see a episode in my home state
Ohhh West Virginia , mountain mama...
I've been in love with the 16 gauge since my youth thanks to my Uncle and his Browning Sweet 16, Carries like a 20, and shoots like a 12.
To find a good place to hunt dove is like finding a gold mine. People keep them a secret held tightly to their heart here in VA
First time I’ve ever seen someone pluck dove cool to see the little differences
Imagine what this dude's kids learn daily... lucky folks I've learned more from meateater than I did in high school
Lmao I’m learning about all the different colors that girls dye their hair these days
@@BC-mn5uc Lol, I know right!
I’ve been waiting for s6 for so long… binge watched ever episode I could online and on tv services and now I’m finally getting the last season I haven’t seen.
Steve, you’ve done more for hunting than many pro-hunting organizations combined. Keep it up!
I know the pain of the close crosser all too well 😂😂
Shenandoah valley!!! It’s great to see Steve in my neck of the woods! I love dove hunting here
Ronnie's #1🏆
I’ve been on a couple dove shoots where it sounded like ww3 out there! You couldn’t keep your gun loaded fast enough! Super fun!
As a guy that has never hunted in my life and has had the opportunity to watch shows like this, specially meatEater, I find myself always enjoying the quality hunting content you guys work so hard on so guys like me can say hey this is new to me as a human being why not have a open mind towards it. Watching this episode brought me a sense of community that other shows fail to provide, when everybody is out there shooting doves, it seems so damn fun wel you guys can all come together and do what you love best.
Makes me drool to taste that dove when it was all prepared!
I’m with Ron. My 2 favorite shotguns are my 1957 Savage single shot and 1939 Winchester Model 12 slam fire, both in 16 gauge.
Had me smiling the whole time watching you experience your first real dove hunt. I look forward to mine every year.
Old homesteaders tricks for plucking. Boil a pot of water and dunk the thing for about 30-60 seconds. Things wipe clean.
Ron is the hipster of hunting
He has the best job on earth
Now that's a good time
On my break for work , perfect!
DOVE HUNTING IS MY FAVORITE
I tell u what. The episodes with Ronnie are my favorites. Dude is hilarious. Between the farting, jokes and mishaps (falling in other episodes and getting stung). It is pure entertainment.
Ron was cracking me up when he got stung and Steve was laughing at him!!
Much love from Northern California
7:32 You are looking for the result....thats a little golden nugget that was just casually dropped.
Did anyone else notice that Ronnie started the big dove shoot with a drilling (two shotgun barrels with a rifle underneath)?
That shooting coach was next level. Dude whipped out a magnet
the host is the F*in man. love it
What a damn good instructor that English chap was. And good on Steve for being humble enough to admit he needs some pointers.
Ive watched this episode 10000 times and it keeps getting better Ronnie is a character…. one I would like to meet.
Makes me want to go out and start planting fields now
So Happy to see a new vid come out just as I turn my pc on SOOO HYPED :D
Thank you Steve, I truly enjoyed that....reminded me of dove hunting with my brothers growing up....
I don’t know if I’m a true fan or not, but I have seen this episode twice on tv, and now once on the KZheads, also have listened to every podcast and still get excited at the reruns on you tube every time I see one. This is hands down one of my favorite episodes. I also live in texas and work in Michigan and the no dove season BOGGLES my mind!
So good to see shooters eating their quarry and you made my mouth water when I watched you preparing the feast.
Ronny what a legend.
Pounding those Yeunlings. Damn good beer damn good family that runs it. Know them well.
The man with the green suspenders had a pretty neat 1100. I got a peek of it at the safety meeting
I had never tried bacon wrapped dove prior to this year. It is AWESOME! Goodbye dryness
try wrapping a jalepeno up in there as well. its excellent
Beautiful to see the continued tradition and fellowship involved in the hunt. I pray for your continued success .
Canada loves Steve R and MeatEater 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
Please keep uploading more!!! This is easily my favorite series! Steven needs to continue this show. 10/10
Love Steven and his friends when they pull out a new hunting video. Plus I’m going to rewatch the Netflix series.!
Fantastic training on such a fun sport- both clays and birds. Good job.
I think I have seen this episode at least 20 times now. It is still my favorite.
Thank you Steve for the memories. I used to love dove hunting and I so miss it. It was always the kick off to hunting season here in Georgia. Always loved the breast with jalapeño and bacon on the grill. Your the best.
Meateater’s is providing new ideas and helping invigorate wild game preparation. It used to be very difficult to find excellent recipes and methods of preparing wild game. There was a enormous need for a modernization of Natural food preparation. Bravo !
Hunting doves in Johnston County, NC are some of my earliest hunting memories. Good times. We don’t have a season here in Maine but they often land in my garden to forage around. Makes me hungry every time.. and I remind them how lucky they are.
I never tier of watching your videos. Perfect balance in hunting and cooking.
Good old boys having a GREAT TIME, I love it!!
Godda love a man who shoots a 16. That my favorite gauge. Great video
Awe man. Tears of happiness is all I can say. ❤
This is my holy grail I love the 16 gauge. I love dove hunting cooking and rare bird dogs. You have nailed it sir not to mention I 've been everywhere in this country and think the Shannondoha valley is one the most beutiful places in it.
The amount of hunting etiquette these people have is awsome!
Probably one of my favorite eps across all seasons. Sept 1 can't come soon enough!
Your content is always a must watch. This is a dove loving hunter that just wanted to say thank you.
that 16 gauge is a fine piece of equipment and that is a understatement.
This one and the small game with Kevin Murphy are our 2 Favorite episodes we have probably watched them both at least 100 times.
Love the 16 gauge! Its Fantastic.... Tight spread and great knock down power
Looks like great times, like years past. Thank you for the show.
I’m so glad you uploaded this episode! It’s one of my favorites! Watched it 5 times in a row when I found it. Here in AZ it’s perfect timing for the dove season opens on September 1st!👍🏻👍🏻🇺🇸
Virginia is just amazingly beautiful
Steve has such a talent for hunting
i love dove hunting and now i have new ideas for cooking them i love this show
My first meateater video but I've been listening to the hunting dog podcast for years.
That shooting coach was great. For some reason I can knock down birds but can't break a clay to save my life.
Nothing like a good ole southern dove shoot!
You're the best Steve.
A man of his craft enjoying his cigar.💪🏻
I've dove hunted for 30 years and I've never seen anyone pluck one like a duck. We go thumb up from under the breast, twist and pull. Takes about 2 seconds per bird, but we don't get to eat those little thighs. 2 favorite ways to cook them is whole breast wrapped in bacon and Kansas City (thin) bbq sauce on the grill, and egg/flour fried like fried chicken and then add to morel mushroom gravy and simmer. I'm definitely going to pluck some to give that a try though! Great video!
16:40 when Ron flags the camera man lol
This is by far my favourite episode, I would love to see Steve and Ronnie do some goose episodes together.
Great videos as always. Thanks for taking the time to make and share it. Much appreciated. Eat good.
Love watching you two hunt. Beautiful bird dogs. I'm also in Shenandoah Valley, Virginia near Afton...
Dove hunts are the most fun, lackadaisical hunts there are. You sit around with your friends and family and chit chat and shoot birds. Then everyone gets together for supper afterwards.
I don’t think I’ve seen anything look more fun in my life
😎💯✌👍Heaven..!!!!!!..Watch it like a dozen times already.HAHHAAHHEHHEHEH..
man I enjoy every single video thanks for sharing Steve God bless you 🙏🏽
We need more Ron
My wife fries them for me. One of my faves!
Another great video man, looks like a fun hunt, thanks for sharing Steve
First time I saw someone making his own ammo really cool!
Been hunting the same dove field for 18 years
Seriously best hunting show.
