2001 Western Conference Finals Game 4, May 27, 2001 | The Lakers needed one more dominant performance to complete the unexpected sweep of the #1 seed Spurs, and all signs pointed to another win. The team was clicking on all cylinders. Opposing teams couldn't score on them, the role players were on automatic, and the superstar duo of Kobe and Shaq posed a threat that no one had an answer for. After the two combined for 71 points, 26 rebounds and 11 assists in game 3 at Staples, they were back at it looking to finish the job. Shaquille tallied 26 points and 10 rebounds while Kobe scored 24 points and dished out 11 assists. The Lakers again won convincingly by a score of 111-82 as they completed the sweep of San Antonio and capped off a historic 11-0 run through all three rounds of the Western Conference Playoffs.

  • Shaq carried Kobe will go down as one of the biggest lies in NBA history. Kobe was so dominate against the Spurs, Sean Elliot. Said playing against Kobe was like playing against Michael Jordan. Kobe was dominate at age 20 to 37.

  • This team and this Playoff series should be talked about more in the media. Lakers completely dominated the Western Conference in 2001. Kobe specifically was a huge problem for the Spurs. This doesn’t get talked about in the media when it comes to iconic moments as far as Kobe’s resume goes. He averaged 33, 7 and 7 and probably could’ve been slightly more if the Lakers hadn’t demoralized the Spurs in the games at Staples. Beat em by 39 & 29 in the last two games 👀. Kobe played damn near every minute of the first two games. He only played 33 minutes in this game. That’s how bad they beat down the Number 1 team that year. You’ll likely never see two players dominate a whole Playoff run like this ever again.

    • And the teams we played weren't slouches... The Blazers had probably the most talent, roster wise. The Kings had arrived, especially after they pushed us to 5 games the previous playoffs. The Spurs had the best record and the league's best defense. The 76ers had the league MVP, Coach of the Year, DPOY, and Best 6th Man... 15 - 1.... That's why it's the best playoff run in NBA history, even though GS has one win more... I don't think their run was as impressive.

And no way In hell should the 04 pistons have ever beat the 04 Lakers !!! Kobe shouldve gave shaq the ball everytime down the court !!! Ofcourse kobe wants to score and help his team but they would've won the title in 04 if he just didn't try n do to much !!! Idc if.its jordan on the Lakers when u got someone like shaq u give him the ball everytime down low ben Wallace couldn't stop shaq although he did play great !!! If the thunder could stay fully healthy all year and in the playoffs I would take them.to.beat the spurs !!! As good as Durant is I haven't seen very many great playoff performances !! In the 12 finals Durant played good in game 1 which they won and after that he struggled lebron locked him up !! Durant isn't very good at shooting over people he is a catch n shoot guy !!! In my opinion Westbrook is just as good of a scorer !!! I would just like to see Durant and Westbrook stay fully healthy all year long ever since they made it.to the finals in 2012 someone has gotten hurt the past 2 or 3 seasonss!! If James harden had stayed and they all 3 stayed healthy nobody would beat that team !! Only reason Miami Heat did in 2012 is because harden was absolutely horrible every game !! Westbrook was the only player who showed up every game !!but I don't think the thunder is as good as they were when they had harden !!! When u got.someone as.good as harden coming of.the bench wow lol that's awesom lol !!!

And, as a SG Kobe had to face Iverson (who was the best player in the world with Shaq at this era) and Carter and his spectacular plays during those years.
