BUT, I'm not sure Buster could've gotten up any more than maybe 1 second sooner. Yes he pounded his glove, but his legs were shot there for a moment, and he looked like it took all his effort to make it to his feet. I also read an interview with Carl Froch, and he said he always boxed with some kind of injury, and so did everyone else, so excuses are just that. He became champ and became everybody's favourite, even though he was always the smallest man in the ring. He overcame so many opponents that were bigger than him and highly skilled. But fear was his friend. When the opponent was scared, they didn't stand a chance. Mike was the nightmare man. EVERYONE was scared for Buster, except Buster. EVERYONE was scared for Evander, except Evander. He was consistent, but in a poor era, and never got to be as good as he could have become by fighting better guys and staying strictly disciplined.

Tyson could have been the greatest 100% but that doesn’t mean anything now as it’s ancient history. He didn’t have one single person in his corner and in the back ground that he came up with. Cus, Kevin Rooney, Jim Jacob’s, Bill Clayton all were gone. Guess what happened to Ali when Angelo Dundee wasn’t in his corner? Yep you guessed, he lost and was TKO’d. these are huge factors my friend. I agree Ali is the greatest though.

  • Its not 10 seconds, its a count of 10, two very different things. The ref''s count is final. Also the state of Mike during and at the end of the respective counts was very different. Buster was punching the floor in frustration and trying to time his standing up to maximise recovery showing to the ref that he was not in too bad a state. Mike was trying to grab his gum shield and was not fully aware at the count of 10 and the ref clearly responded to that.

  • Buster went on to fight Holyfield later on in 1990, fought an awful fight and got blown away in just three rounds. He basically took his $24 000 000 and retired from boxing. Holyfield then lost the title to Riddick Bowe in 1992 while Tyson only got another title shot in March of 1996 when he beat Frank Bruno for the second time to get his WBC belt back. He then gave that belt up to challenge WBA champ Bruce Seldon whom he beat without even raising a sweat. Then came the two consecutive defeats to Holyfield and Tyson's aura of invincibility was gone for good. You see, Mike's prime was already over when he fought Douglas, he just was not aware of it. He was a shooting star from the time he turned pro to the time he fought and beat Michael Spinks in June of 1988. After that fight he never looked that good against top opposition in the ring again.

    • @@oldironsides4107 true but mike wouldn’t ended up on his back if the ref was doing a proper count. Let’s say he had and buster got counted out. It still woulda exposed mike as no longer invincible his eye shut totally outboxed. They’d say it was a miricale he knocked buster out and they’d be right. So even if mike escaped with the win via the ref doing his job, the fight woulda still wrecked Mike’s image. Hed have gone on to defend vs Holyfield and it wouldn’t end much different than Douglas vs holy did. So either way buster did his job that night even if the ref didn’t but it wouldn’t change the course mikes life was heading down and blowing off training. He was heading for defeat, buster got to him first and the ref slow counted there never shoulda been a round 10 for mike to lose in because in the eyes of anyone who can count there was an 8th round knockout but again it wouldn’t change much in the boxing picture. Mike woulda lost vs holy after barely escaping Douglas, his “tune up fight” for holy. Even when mike put buster down in the 8th mikes face was already mangled and busters wasn’t. Mike shoulda still won but its just as well that he didn’t. At least he can blame that face on losing. Id hate to look like that after a win while the other guy looks fine and carry around the damaged pride that not only you but the whole world knows you were lucky to get that one punch to win the fight after getting beat down for 8 straight rounds. Id rather take the loss and just own up to it, but a loss isn’t what shoulda happened. Maybe it’s a good thing for mike that he did lose. Again too embarassing to get your ass beat face mangled and win by one lucky punch when you have the ego and pride and the whole world at the time thinks you’re invincible.

A common misconception is that boxers get 10 seconds flat, they do not, it depends on when the timeskeeper starts the count and the referee makes sure that their count is lined up correctly with the timeskeeper. • Mike Tyson wasn't in fight shape and condition for this fight and got his ass kicked. He didn't take it seriously until it was too late. He shouldn't have lost because he is the better fighter, but if you play stupid games, you win stupid prizes. Buster Douglas did the exact samething his next fight. Didn't train and got fat, and got his ass kicked by a very small (non-steroid) holyfield. He would've done much better and probably won against Holyfield if he took the fight seriously. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

  • For me Douglas beat Tyson fairly, it was a slightly long count but he was lucid straight away cursing himself for being hit by the uppercut. Contrast that to Tyson who was all over the place when he got knocked out. Tyson had a bad night partly because he underestimated his opponent. I'm sure if they'd fought again Tyson would have won but that's not the point. Tyson's team should have accepted the defeat and moved on rather than ruining Douglas 'moment.

Saying he was mentally weak, unfocused, overly-dependent upon a trainer isn't a defense, it's a legitimate knock. It's not an excuse, it's a criticism. It doesn't make it better, it makes it worse. • Facts... it was a long count Nevermind the guy outside the ring the count period was a little long I got 11 either way the fight was over I've counted 11 like 20 times just to be sure the 14 was the outside of the ring guys count but the ref was a little behind but not by that much buster was nowhere near getting up at 6 if that was the case there would never have been an issue

    • BS. Buster was always fine. Your boy was searching for his mouthpiece.

    • @@TheGr8-1 what makes it so bad is Mike sent that boy to the canvas with the laziest upper cut i ever seen💀 Mike wasn’t even trying and knocked him out😂

    • @@NickPalmer-vj6by if he knocked him out he would have won. He got his ass whooped the entire fight. Got a flash knock down. Then got destroyed with a 4 punch combo that knocked his mouthpiece out his head. And all you have are woulda shoulda coulda. I swear Tyson fanboys are delusional.

  • Mike had some bumb answers. He had a amateur corner that didn't know how to get their fighter back in the the fight after being behind.Mike didn't have a bad night.Someone else would have lost.Buster gave the blue print on how to beat Mike ,ask Evanda.

  • In my opinion as said Mike, "he done a good fight I a bad fight", so what's the problem. I remember very well that Mike defeat and the reaction of many people "Mike is done ko..?, oh sh'' is impossible, is incredible, is, is, is.. Was already wright somewhere that the Mike' s life style, sooner or later will take Mike to loose. That evening Douglas do not makes some thing of special, Mike make something of bad, destroyed his umblivable gift that the nature has make to him, born for to be the youngest and hardest stomper ever lived!!. Douglas just takes the right occasion...
