As a Brit, we didn't know until recenty either. Countdown, I don't mean to condescend (condescend means talk down to you ) is this twee, dry afternoon gameshow. 8 out of 10 cats is this irrelevent parlour gameshow. Someone at channel4 decided to mash up presenters and hosts for a charity stunt and this jewel came out of it. Watch Never Mind the Buzzcocks (Mark Lemar years - it got a bit shitty once Simon Amstel took the reigns with sight gags and set up goofs, then it had guest hosts who just used it as an ego boost. Noel Fielding did inject some botox in there, but go watch ) and Have I got News for You?
What makes it more hilarious to me is that I've watched regular "Countdown" with my grandfather. It's tame, intellectual and sensible. Then this shit is just a fucking trainwreck.
To watch Sean Locke in these clips today is moving. He so enjoyed playing off his fellow comedians, bringing so much laughter to us all. I was simply gutted to hear of his death yesterday. Condolences to his family and friends from a fan in Canada. He will be remembered fondly.

I mean, I haven't watched any of it myself so I can't comment but I've personally always thought of Lee as the kind of comedian that does his best when he's bouncing off others. That's why Would I Lie To You and other game shows such as this always seem to be a great fit for him.

@@SigmundJaehn I don't think so. The reason his laugh sounds like that is because most people make the noise breathing out, and he makes the noise breathing in. When you laugh really hard it can mess with your breathing and the sounds you make. I think what was happening in that clip was that he was doing that thing where you're laughing but it's relatively silent, and then you might snort or something. The typical way of laughing is very natural for our vocal cords, etc. so it isn't surprising that he would occasionally make that noise, even if it's not his immediate natural laugh. I could be wrong, of course, but I think it's real.

AJBeetle1 I’ve noticed British humour is very confusing to Americans. A lot of it is centred around blunt sarcasm and American is more slapstick.

But the accent though, can't understand 90% of the words spoken. The ones I catch I put in 5 word sentences so it doesn't bother that much in the end.

God I've loved watching these guys for years and years now, Sean being gone now is beyond heartbreaking. Beyond funny and a great guy to watch during my years of college and uni. It made my lonely times away from family and family a whole lot better watching the show. A Legend as always. Rest in Peace and thank you for the great laughs over the years.
