Was Hazard a PURER FOOTBALLER than Ronaldo? | The Eye Test

2024 ж. 7 Ақп.

Lyés and Culture Cams sit down and debate the meaning of a "Pure Footballer", and whether Eden Hazard had a point when he said he was more of one than Cristiano Ronaldo. They also discuss AFCON and how the tournament has taken football by storm this year.

  • Even if hazard meant that ronaldo changed his playing style to be relevant and that is what he meant, it still does not work, because all that tells us is that Cr7 talent as a forward is all encompassing, he still was one of the greatest striker the game has ever seen, and even in his prime he did it all consistently anyway, so if he stick to one attribute because he has an ankle and knee injury and is getting old, it does not make him less of a pure footballer, his relationship with the ball is still there. Its like having a wife right, but instead of cr7 only being a lover to his wife, hes her friend, her leader, the bearer of her secrets, her right hand, her biggest supporter and fan, and the greatest man she ever knew or know, thats the thing, its like that with ronaldo now, rn he can only be a friend to the football, still love the ball sometimes showing it a good time, but they both understand each other, thats how i read it, so even if hazard mean ronaldo is not pure footballer because he adapted his game, still not the best argument even if the basis of the argument is acceptible, too much gray area.

People think that Foden is more technical and Saka is the one that relies more on Pace & Power, when in reality it’s the exact opposite. Saka is better at receiving and operating in tight spaces, better at combining with teammates, better deliveries and more creative. Foden is much more explosive. Superior at receiving and playing in big spaces, far quicker in transition, more powerful shooter. Not to say that Saka is not athletic or that Foden is not excellent technically, which they both are, but the public perception of both has it so so wrong, purely because Foden’s receiving and dribbling style is more aesthetically pleasing. 0 actual analysis goes into it.

He finished best goalscorer under Guy Roux at Auxerre the previous season in Ligue 1 and got hyped up. Remember back then Aimé Jacquet was under immense pressure because France was organising the World Cup and also because they had missed the WC 94 in USA. The FFF had to completely rebrand their image and for that had to get rid of the 'toxic' generation (big characters like Cantona, Papin, Ginola), they also had to open Clairefontaine academy (not affiliated to any club) to scout the best talent in the land and give scholarship.

It's not dribbling 3 -4 guys around and not scoring, because scoring and assisting is how you win matches. Well, the reason why messi and ronaldo are considered the greatest players of all time, is because messi is the greatest playmaker of all time, and ronaldo is the greatest goalscorer of all time. These two have stats and flair that not even a thousand hazards could match. And plus who in their sane minds would think that the guy who failed and got crushed by the weight of real madrid's number 7, is better than the guy who won the three peat and is the only guy in history to have been the top scorer of the champions league and top assister for six seasons straight, and holds all records in three various tournaments, the ucl, the club wc and the euro( not the assists part, he is the top scorer).

  • All this talk about "pure football" is funny considering Hazard was finished the second he lost his explosive acceleration, talk about being reliant on a physical attribute rather than pure ability. In contrast, Ronaldo after 30 lost a big chunk of his pace, agility, balance, and still reigned supreme for another 6-7 years.

If the biggest club in the world with record no of 35 league titles (more than hipster PR pure football mercahnts Barca), 14 european cups (more than PR merchants ajax and barca combined) , highest brand value, highest revenue on an average past 25 years. If real madrid determine they need 'roadrunner' fede valverde over 'pure footballer' pedri , then I am inclined to believe fede valverde is. Better player. To play for real madrid, you need attitude and character. Talent is a long way behind. Busquets the pure footballer wpuldnt last 5 years at madrid

  • Even though I know what Hazard means, in the heat of the Messi Ronaldo rivalry, nobody had the balls to say this out loud, aside from Griezmann. Hazard's one my favorite players, but it's a very easy thing to say in today's climate when the intensity died down. Also I prefer to not compare anyone with Messi & Ronaldo anyways. But for me, a pure footballer is someone who makes football look effortless, plays the game elegantly and oozes creativity & technical ability. Everyone who's played football competitively at any level knows there are always your physical players, intelligent players, hard workers, efficient wingers, solid CB's, relentless rightbacks, etc. They can all have a great game or even decide games, but guaranteed at the end of the game, EVERYONE on that pitch will remember who the real ballers were. First touch, control, composure, elegance, flair, intelligence, creativity, technique, instinct, vision, passing, finishing, dribbling. A player who has has acombination of these attributes and simplifies it to make football look effortless is a pure footballer.

Messi is a diminutive and fairly speedy with OUT OF THIS WORLD agility and balance but nothing in his physiology that in my opinion constitutes saying he is more talented than CR7 because the level of ball control ball minipulation football IQ and seeming genius that he displays are not intrinsic to a person, they are cultivated through years and years of practice and analysis. His spontaneous genius is not anywhere near as pure of a talent as just being a massive athletic freak is. Cr7 with equalised physicals is a mediocre player Cr7 with equalised pure footballing stats is an elite player Messi with equalised pure football is a league 2 player at best Messi with equalised physicals is literally JESUS on the pitch because he is by far the best pure footballer of all time.

  • I have to agree with the guy there on the meaning of pure footballer, its about a player relationship with the football, what they can do with it, and even then i still think Cr7 is a cut above hazard and a lot if players because everything he attempts, hes atleast top 10 in every category, heading ability hes top 10 ever, when it came to dribbling he had spells when he was amongst top 5, in terms of striking the ball, again top 10 in his peak, one if the best weak foot in football, deadball specialist him in his pump was top 10, skills and ball manipulation hes one of the greatest entertainers in that aspect, plus he also has intangibles like his ball passing and accuracy when he tries, as well as his supernatural awareness where it seems the ball just always seem to find him at the right place at the right time, so on top of his natural attributes for the game, he has monents of brilliance that seems to transcend the meaning of modern football and thus hes compared to legends of the past, cr7 is an anomaly as well even with his increase in body mass his dribbling was still top tier until he got injured, hes all 6'2 mind you theres not a lot of men his size that can move like him.

Ronaldo from 2006 to 2014 was an absolute monstrosity,literally an entertainer and could shoot from anywhere and score..two quick feet ,heading ability,dribbling,free kicks,too many abilities in just one man plus longevity..If that’s not pure football then idk what pure football is..there’s no single year hazard had been any better than Ronaldo simple as that!

  • No. Hazard was perhaps a better dribbler than Ronaldo (and mainly in tight space, prime Ronnie 1v1 would smoke 99% of defenders consistently), other than that Ronaldo has him in every thing. Crossing, free kicks, shooting, two footedness, finished, aerial presense, every possible physical attribute etc.

    @De3dSh0t@De3dSh0t3 ай бұрын
    • Two footedness? Have to disagree there. As an athlete (which isn’t really related to pure football), Ronaldo is probably best ever maybe besides Bale. Hazard’s intelligence, passing, ball manipulation, close control, ability to play face up and back to goal all better. Hazard could’ve played so many positions on the pitch and been best at it. You find that the players that go TO the ball and not wait to receive ball typically fit the pure footballer type e.g. Neymar, Messi, Hazard, Isco, Modric, Iniesta, Pogba.

      @newrecruit100@newrecruit1003 ай бұрын
    • @@newrecruit100 Firstly, Ronaldo used to run TOWARDS the ball in the first half of his career, he was even labelled as show pony and selfish because he'd never pass and try to do everything by himself. Secondly, he is more two footed than Hazard , I don't even remember Hazard using his left that often. Ronaldo was great with both feet, especially when it came to striking and crossing (which is why he could play on both wings). The only thing I'd give Hazard is close control and dribbling in small spaces, which was his speciality. For me, the term "pure footballer" is just a way to say someone underachieved given their talent, which is why you always hear this phrase whenever people talk about Hazard, Neymar, Pogba, Ozil etc.

      @De3dSh0t@De3dSh0t3 ай бұрын
    • @@De3dSh0t I think we have different definitions of “going towards the ball”. players like Hazard, Neymar, Messi would drop into midfield or the first phase to get the ball. That has never been Ronaldo. Hazard’s best goal ever is with his left foot. Go and watch his goal vs Marseille. What’s ironic is that Hazard was a better ball striker probably with his left foot than his right foot despite being a right footed player. Hazard did not underachieve. Neither did Neymar.

    • @@newrecruit100 Fam look at any game of Ronaldo pre 2013 and he was dropping deeper to get the ball. Also, his best goals (against Arsenal, Liverpool, West Ham etc) were with his right, and I'm pretty sure Ronaldo scored more with his left than Hazard with both feet. And they did underachieve, Neymar could've been at Ronaldo and Messi level, and he didn't end up even close. And Hazard was washed by 28 because he didn't take the game or his career seriously enough. Ballon d'Or level talents.
