Watch the record breaking space jump from 24.2 miles(38.9 km) above the surface of earth by 'Felix Baumgartner'.
The video features the recording from the on-board camera, giving a true and absolute experience of the jump.
It also features a free fall which breaks the sound barrier (speed of sound) at 846 miles/hr or 1361.5 km/hr without the use of any heavy machinery.

    • @@mnfishing4194 The fall itself is 0g. That's why it's called a free fall. The g forces he would have experiences would have been during the flat spin he entered, and it would have only effected his extremities. Head, hands, feet. It would depend on exactly how fast he was spinning and I'm too lazy right now to time the Sun passing the camera and calculate his angular velocity. Regardless, the flat spin was basically pulling his arms/legs/head outward, pooling blood in them. A bit like negative gs in a jet. Hence why he felt like he was going to pass out. He hands stay in the same place because they are being pulled outward by the forces. You'll see when he corrects the spin he is able to pull his arms around and in to reorient himself.

  • This was awesome and truly took a lot of planning, resources and technology. The free falling faster than sound part is taking advantage of common miss use of the term as the speed of sound is faster the lower the altitude. His actual Mach number was at several times Mach higher than 1 at the point it was announced.

    • @@sailorman8668 I think his actual speed exceeded 850 MPH. It's displaying and you can see it. At that point his Mach number was multiples of Mach 1. At his jump point the speed of sound is nearly zero. Mach 1 at 40 thousand feet is quite a lot less speed than Mach 1 at 100 feet. Mach is the speed of sound. He may have went Mach 100 at the early stages of his drop.

But in general I would have thought that any number of mechanical failures, or anything that stops the oxygen, would be life-threatening. Even a simple failure of the parachute wouldn't end well.
