This entire album was ahead of its time and it still sounds timeless. Hands down one of the most underrated albums of the 90s. Butterfly should have won a few Grammys.
AOTY tbh, its is a creative piece of art, while the album feels like an artistic transition and reflection of her career where it showcases Mariah's greatness and authenticity as a songwriter, and her unstoppable creativity as a vocalist and lyricist.

Unfortunately she dosen't sound like this anymore. I went to see her live people were booing and there was actually a big queue to get out of the arena. People were literally going home.she sounded awful,very disappointing for some but not for me.i respect her for what she had...but sadly she's not got it anymore.

It requires immense breath control, supreme vocal control, astonishingly accurate melismas and riffs, pinpoint octave leaps, stellar vocal dynamics, but most of all... it requires the singer to not only have excellent mixing technique, but to be able to sing in the middle of their voice, usually where it cracks. Fun fact: because her contract with Sony was almost over she never finished writing this song because they broke off her writing relationship with him so the part where she is vocalizing she decided not to put lyrics to it out of respect for Walter and ended up making the song so much pure and better.

She recorded a song called "Almost home" for Disney and she always said she hates that song , and there are almost only covers in the "Merry Christmas" album and she herself said it was terrible to record them, despite these tracks have vocals for days especially "Jesus what a wonderful child" which is totally out of this world, and "O Holy night". She has the most beautiful voice I've ever heard and her vocals are completely unmatched but when an artist hates singing songs she hasn't written because she wants to be involved in the whole song creation process deserves a lot more respect, people like her, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson will always be in a higher class compared to simple interpreters or cover singers.
