  • So glad you added that heat disclaimer ⚠️!!!!! My dad almost lost 3 fingers from pouring hot liquid in a glass bowl that was not meant for heat and it shattered. This can be super dangerous and people need to be very careful what kind of glass they are pouring hot liquid into.

    • That happened to me with chicken broth. I poured it into a hot glass bowl and it split in two and I burned my stomach so bad. I am surprised it didn't scar permanently, but it HURT. I was in High School at the time and I think that was the first time I had cried due to pain since I was a kid.

    • It’s best to be safe of course, but if you put a spoon or other metal piece into the glass vessel, (just while you’re pouring the wax and then remove) the metal will conduct the heat away from the glass.

  • I make candles. Wicks are specifically sized (in thickness and material content) for the diameter of the jar. If you remove the wicks from a single tall jar and put it into a wider one, you'll get what is called "tunneling" when the wick burns. Meaning, you won't get a complete melted wax pool across the diameter of the candle. Instead, it will burn a hole straight down the center of the candle, creating a tunnel. The wick simply isn't fat enough to melt the wax across the entire diameter.

    • Serious question…..if you all are willing to put all this effort and money into remaking candles, why not just buy the materials and make your own from the start? They’re so much cheaper that way, easier to customize, and you’re able to see exactly what ingredients they are used so that you’re not filling your houses and lungs with carcinogens. DT is filled with trash. I can’t imagine shopping there for something I can make 100x better on my own. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Her reception venue was small (65 people) and had a huge mantle over the fireplace. We paired the candles with fake ivy on the tables (farmhouse style setup - a long table seating 24 or so - we had 3 of those) and across the mantle - so cozy and chic

On each desk top was an Ice Cream Sundae! Golly we were excited. Then upon closer inspection we learned it was wax! The room roared in laughter! For the topping she used your whipped cream technique! The boys got chocolate and the girls got strawberry. She used the sundae plastic glasses. Cut a red ball in half for a cherry on top, stuck a plastic utensil handle it like a spoon. I kept that thing for a decade or more. Can't tell you how hard it is to dust that wax whipped cream. Of course they didn't have wicks as her container was plastic, but if you choose the glass sundae shaped glass dishes you will be golden! Thanks COTC for uncovering that fond memory. • I have tried this and they ruin the candle. The wax they use in candles and melts have different properties for different purposes. The candle will tunnel because the flame isn't hot enough to fully melt the wax and the oil in the wax melts will burn and turn the middle of the candle brown.

      @chinadollsyndrome@chinadollsyndrome Жыл бұрын
    • Yeah, it's not really recommended to do that. a lot of times, it's a different type of wax, than jar wax and melts could also have more fragrance in them, since they aren't being burned. So, just because you can melt them and throw any ol' wick in there and call it a candle, doesn't mean you should. There's safety issues and like stated, it doesn't even burn nicely! Just spend the money to support a business (preferably small, handcrafted businesses) and get a candle that burns properly, with the correct wick, correct wax and the correct/safe amount of fragrance.

  • Hey, I make candles professionally and just wanted to point out to everyone here that you please check whether your glass container is suitable for the heat of a candle flame or not. I know, we crazy Germans are all about our rules, but some cheap glass containers are not capable of managing high heat like this without breaking or they transfer the heat to the surface they are standing on. Here is a little tip, if you are not sure about the glass you want to use, take a wider glass and place the wick in a way that the flame is far away from the glass. Test the first one on a wider tray or a baking tray before you use it anywhere else in the house. Stay safe and have fun with your self made candles y'all.

  • I've been doing this for years and save a fortune, I use the votive candles, wax melts of any scent and make the three wick candles that run anywhere from $3.00- on up! I do like the stickers on the tall candles because you usually can only find the religious ones that have decorations. I live in tornado alley and we always have a big supply in case the power goes off.
