Carrying a revolver concealed, gets you a lot of advantages. They are reliable, super easy to use, practically just point and pull the trigger, and they are proven time and time again. There are disadvantages as well. The most important one is that they come with limited capacity.

  • I had an instructor once tell me his way of practicing a revolver reload. At his range though. Have your reload in your pocket or wherever you carry the speedloader. Shoot your 5 or 6 rounds at about 5 to 7 yards. Then without looking at your revolver { he would close his eyes on his range] empty the spent casings, acquire your reload, load them and then shoot those rounds. He said this was a fairly realistic situation in a defensive shooting because you never want to lose sight of your opponent. Of course I brought up the "peripheral vision" situation, and he thought that was not something you can truly depend on in a real defensive scenario. We had lots of discussions about that.

  • So long as we use self contained metallic cartridges the revolver in all its iterations will never truly be obsolete. It'll always be useful.

  • Since retirement after thirty plus years of law enforcement I carry a Smith & Wesson, Model 36. Great weapon, easily concealed and very lightweight. I carry mine on my waist in an old clamp type leather holster under a vest to hide it. Should trouble occur my plan is to use guile by concealing it. In short. Don't let people know I have a concealed firearm unless it's needed. Then "SURPRISE!" I have a gun.

  • Maybe I missed it being mentioned already, but the Taurus 85 is no longer offered as a new gun by Taurus. It's since been replaced by the model 856, a 6-round version of the older 5-shot 85. Otherwise, the video is a good representation as to what is out there for CC revolvers, although I probably would rate the 642 and LCR as #1 & #2 if the video was meant to place the revolvers in an order by choice. There are also several other S&W brand revolvers besides the 642 and the "Bodyguard". I've usually read bad reviews on the Bodyguard but admittedly, I've never even handled one.

  • I bought a 642 as soon as I came out with it, including the laser grip. I’ve carried it so much the finish is almost completely gone off of it. I added lighter springs which is the 9 1/2 pound trigger pool significantly. I can highly recommend it.

  • The issue I had with my ROA M206 was the grips. The wood grips do not cover the rear of the frame at the point where my thumb and forefinger hold the gun and beat that part of my hand to hell. And I could not get the polymer grips to fit. I didn't enjoy shooting and didn't keep this revolver very long. Since I already have a nice Speed Beez loader, I am looking for another 6-shot .38 and have my eye on the new Kimber K6XS.

  • According to Massad Ayoob of Wilson Combat, revolvers are of very little use because of capacity. Is he expecting a regiment of Gurkhas to come over the horizon or has he forgotten that a well placed round is going to ball up the opponent. Perhaps M60's and belts of ammo over the shoulders are required. How about stopping the wrong sort of people from having guns in the first place? If you really want to walk around like Audey Murphy, live in Syria.

Don't believe me go to the range and see how inaccurate a 2 inch barrel can be then add on adrenaline to your self defense problem and miss miss miss . 4 inch Is a huge difference in accuracy and still conceals well as long as it isn't some 50 cal or 44 cal moose gun

  • Great looking revolver but no .357 mag is worth $3500,00 .Korth is also a very expensive revolver that just does not do well here. When you have so many fine .357 mags available here these high end revolvers collect a lot of dust. You have to try and figure out why paying an extra $2500,00 is a smart move. Does the revolver give you $2500.00 worth more accuracy? Can you justify carrying a revolver that is $2500,00 more aro than bd with you all the time? This revolver is just more about status. And like almost all things that are status driven most are not intelligent purchases. I will most certainly pass. More for you all who have money burning holes in your pocket. For $3500.00 I can purchase a decent .357 mag revolver. Plus a .44 mag revolver and 2 semi automatic sidearms.

  • Nice clickbait with the smith 8 shot revolver for the thumbnail . And no a 642 air weight will not let you cock the hammer for a more accurate shot . The only model that prevents snagging and allows for a single action shot is the smith and Wesson model 38 which has a rounded humpback with a shrouded sliding hammer plate - it can be easy to let go of when trying to cock and then lower the hammer . The LCR and Rock island are trash I know from experience- if you are going budget the 605 is a far better choice and if you want light find an old Taurus titanium model 85 / 605

  • The 642? What a POS especially with the laser! The Lovely Bride wanted one as soon as she saw one in the display case of our favorite local gun store...She quickly came to hate it for its counterintuitive cylinder release and pointless laser. I came to hate it for the same reasons in short order. It never leaves the house and has resided in its original box since shortly after its purchase in 2019 and will probably remain there until The Lovely Bride decides which Taurus, or Charter Arms, revolver she likes best.

    • The 642 was introduced in 1993. So, you're complaining about a gun that's 30 years old? I'm surprised you're not looking at the Kimber K6S DCR.

    • I'm a Colt's, Ruger, Taurus, and Charter Arms kind of guy myself especially since S&W pretty much hit the skids back in the 1970s. I own one Slick Willy era S&W pistol in .40S&W which is my preferred CCW. nine months out of the year with a 9 Minimal Taurus G2C filling the late Spring and Summer months when folks tend to wear fewer clothes. I'm currently shopping for an even better CCW pistol which would come in the form of a strictly G.I. 1911A1 in .45ACP but not one with Kimber engraved on the slide. As I type The Lovely Bride is eyeing my trusty old .40S&W and a Taurus .357 for her CCW...In the meantime, I'm looking at buying a Charter Arms "Classic" .44 Special Bulldog just because I subscribe, thanks to practical experience, to the "Big, Relatively Slow, Projectiles Make Bigger Holes Down Range....Where It Counts" reality. Especially at anything approaching typical personal defense ranges of "In Your Face" out to fifty yards. Past fifty yards? You should have brought a shotgun stoked with rifled slugs or a hefty load of "0" or "00" buck to the gunfight.

    • The Ruger SP101 - in any variant (2.25"; 3"; 4") - is better than any J-frame or any of the LCRs, imo... I prefer the 3".

    • @@carlosmorris4510 I agree 100%! The Lovely Bride and I looked at one just yesterday and the S&W is on the chopping block as trading material as a direct result of our examination. If all goes well the deal will be made today and a new 3" SP101 will find a home with us and The Lovely Bride will feel far more comfortable with it as her daily CCW.

    • @@furmanmackey5479 Excellent!... I have a 3" with a Hogue grip installed, and it feels light in my IWB holster - sandwiched up tight against my body. And with it's solid weight and 3" barrel, it handles .357 Magnum very well and gets increased velocity and inherent accuracy over the 2.25", without being too long for concealed carry... One of the best CCW revolvers, imo. You won't be disappointed! 👍
