  • Nobody should be insulting his accent. The only reason he came the the states/canada is to play hockey, he's trying his best to learn our language

  • Media: "Hertl doesn't know good English" "Let's ask him hard questions!" "GREAT IDEA!!!"

  • To preface my comment, I'm a Rangers fan, so this game was unbelievably painful for me to watch... However: This kid is the real deal. It just brings a grin to my face to see such a young kid break onto the NHL scene like this, showing so much potential, and such absolutely enthusiasm for the game--not to mention such courage, being willing to give interviews when he's still adapting to the new culture. Hell, I know probably a similar amount of Spanish and I'd never be so comfortable with that.

  • You always want to be the best you can be. That he is one of the best skilled players in the league. I still don't understand how 16 other teams looked passed him. His english will be better in time.

  • I'm a czech high school student so I have such an idea about english education here and about students who study that. The education is usually quality and sufficient but of course, not everyone is talented. I suppose that Tomáš isn't one of the best ones. Lots of people have problems mostly with conversation just like Tomáš. But you can see, he understands the points and answers. And you can be sure, it will be only better with his english :)

  • He just might be the key to the Stanley Cup for the Sharks. I'm not saying the rest of the team isn't good as well, but he can be the positive factor to future success. In combination with his fellow linemates. Keep going like this Tomas! You'll be a legend!

  • I got two things out of this interview: 1.) It's crazy. 2.) He's very happy. Either way, fantastic night. It's too bad the Wings just moved out of the conference because I'd love to see more of this kid.

  • Tomáš Hertl je ČECH ! Mluví česky anglicky neumí, protože je tam sotva pár týdnů. Translation for you: Tomáš Hertl is a czech, his motherlanguage is czech and he cant speak english, bcs he is there in the USA just a couple of month. It is quite difficlult to learn a forign language in such a short time.

  • Hellooo... who cares about his english? it is us-can league so if the interview is in French most of us would be lost... who dares to say comments like "what is he saying, being not able to order burgers etc..." I'm from czech too, I started on same level of english as he is, it's not funny at all... but he's got the balls to stay his ground.... come on Tomas!!!

Good luck to the kid and SJ this year, their gonna need it to get past my hawks! P. S. Try rosetta stone hurtl!!! :)

  • Haters gonna hate. Amazing goal and amazing game. Anyone who calls it disrespect of the game needs to look in the mirror. If you have mad skills, then you are getting paid to put them on display. If you don't have mad skills but wish you did, then keep your mouth shut and get back to work developing mad skills.

  • In a simplified way I can say the difference between Czech and Slovak language is very similar as between american and british or scotish english. Some words are different, accent or intonations of the languages are different, but if Czech talks to Slovak, both speak their own languages and they understand each perfectly. But in both languages are more different words compare to US/UK english. That's why I said "in a simplified way" ..

  • I'd be telling him, ‘Kid, don't do that again.' Because every hockey player's got pride and the league just got set notice about that. I just don't like when you embarrass a team, or a goaltender like Biron or you kinda discredit the game. Great move. Do it in practice, do it in a shootout. But not when the score's 8-2."
