  • black soldier flies farming is Very widespread in Kenya, the feedstock they use is mainly edible food waste and mainly focus on producing animal feeds and frass, insect poo used as organic fertilizer. .This company's approach is very novel and unique in that they use feedstock like bagasse, rice stems, coffee husk, which was previously not used in black soldier flies rearing and they also produce additional products like chitin which opens another whole new window of opportunities.

  • This farmer Mr. Sivasankaran is the secretary for Tamilnadu Coastal Aqua Farmers Association.TANCAFA What he said connected to the cost and quality of feed is 100% correct. Without finding an alternative to the present pelletted feed, industry can't survive. BSF larvae the best and handy alternative of protein in shrimp feed.

  • Very interesting topic! But fully half of what the shrimp farmer said did not get translated with subtitles. I hope that next time relevant content get translated.

  • Seafood farming is proving to be a headache globally in east Asia - cambodia, Vietnam etc incl China have tested to produce poor quality fish not fit for human consumption, in Europe the farmed salmon was shown to also be inferior for sushi & human consumption. They pump these forms of life with lotsa antibiotics & anti fungal stuff that ultimately becomes resistant & pushes infections up demanding stronger chemicals. It is a interesting challenge because of scale - has to be industrial to be worthwhile. This is where bio science with natural eco systems must come into play.

  • Some people here commenting eat plants as if that is a viable option to millions of people in different geographical regions , not to mention personal preference and cultural norms, these are the same folks who believe EV is the only solution for sustainability

    • A plant-based diet IS a viable option for the majority of people all over the world. Personal preference and cultural norms to destroy sentient beings and our planet are not acceptable justifications.

  • Why can't we just eat plants? These are solutions driven by the "taste" for shrimp, not sustainability. Humans thrive on plant-based diets, as is evidenced by leading athletes like Novak Djokovic and Lewis Hamilton, and hundreds of scientific studies. Aquaculture not only carries pathogenic risks but also causes terrifying amounts of nutrient pollution. Trillions of sentient lives, fish or insect, being bred only to live a life of suffering and an inevitable, cruel death. 70% of global farmland is used to grow feed crops for animal agriculture. If humans ate only plants, you would just need a fraction of that to sustain the global population. Imagine what would happen if even half of that land was returned to its original forest state? If you are truly committed to sustainability, no form of aquaculture or animal agriculture can be considered a viable element to our future food system.

  • Like omg they figured it out boys it only took decades of them seeing bugs eat unwanted food waste and animal poop. Like ya bugs 🎉 good job only took to long to figure out what was physically happening in front of you. Just grow some mushrooms and native edible food well your at it.

    • @@TheKakarot_itachi Sounds like you are uneducated about nutrition. On average omnivores are lacking seven nutrients compared to only three for plant based people? Do better.
