Tonsil stones can be frustrating and embarrassing due to the unpleasant odor they produce in the mouth. However, it's essential to understand the deeper cause of these stones to fully address and prevent them from reoccurring.
Tonsils are small lymphatic tissues located at the back of your throat. They act as the first line of defense against pathogens entering the nose and mouth. The tonsils pick up information from these pathogens and send it to the rest of the immune system, signaling the body to ramp up its defenses.
Unfortunately, many people opt to have their tonsils removed as a quick solution to recurring tonsil issues. However, this can lead to further complications. Without tonsils, our first line of defense against pathogens is removed, making us more susceptible to respiratory tract infections, Hodgekin's lymphoma, and autoimmune conditions.
Furthermore, antibiotics are often prescribed for tonsil infections but only treat bacterial infections. The majority of tonsil infections are caused by viruses, making antibiotics ineffective. This highlights the importance of maintaining a strong immune system to fight viral and bacterial infections.
Swollen tonsils may be seen as a nuisance in children and are often treated with anti-inflammatory medication. However, it's crucial to allow the body to develop acquired immunity through infection. This helps to strengthen the immune system and prevent future tonsil issues.
Research has also shown a correlation between low vitamin D, zinc, and iron levels and inflamed tonsils. These nutrients are crucial in supporting the immune system and fighting infections. Therefore, it’s important to ensure you get enough of these nutrients through a nutritious diet or supplementation.
Vitamin D, in particular, has been found to have potent antimicrobial effects, and a lack of sun exposure has been linked to increased instances of inflamed tonsils. This is especially concerning for children who may not spend enough time outdoors or consume foods rich in vitamin D. Additionally, consuming too many phosphates through soda and processed foods can deplete the body's vitamin D levels.

Thanks for watching! Dealing with tonsil stones can be frustrating, but it’s important to understand the underlying cause and take steps to support your immune system. I'll see you in the next video!
I used to get these all the time as a kid. My pediatrician called them "puss bags on my tonsils." He told my mother that he refused to remove my tonsils because they protect me from catching things, and that these "puss bags" (stones) were just my tonsils doing their job. I know it sounds weird but I could actually contract my throat and squeeze those puppies out, spitting them out. It was gros but such a relief to get them outta there. I'm 62, and I still have my tonsils. It is a RARE occasion for me to get stones these days, but it can still happen. Of course I now know that it's my body fighting something so I help it along by taking extra vitamins, getting plenty of sleep and drinking a lot of water. . . and they go away. I will say this though: I've had them SOOO many times that I have scars on my tonsils from them. The more ya know...... 😉
Same here! I'm 65 and still have mine as well. I don't get tonsil stones anymore, l only recently found out they were a thing!
Impressive for anyone born in the 60s to still have tonsils. My four siblings got theirs removed. My parents were in the middle of a divorce so I got lucky - I got to keep my tonsils since their minds were elsewhere!
This obsession with removing valuable organs to the human body because there are some "problems" in them is completely insane. What in the world made doctors think the solution to these problems is to remove the ogran experiencing the problem? Where do they think this problem will go then? How about understanding and teaching people why they experience such problems and actually Curing these problems? Ooh I guess that's not what they signed up for when the many quacks became doctors... At least there were and still are reputable doctors, and now there are amazing people like Dr Berg educating people for free online so we can all live healthier and understand how our bodies work, something which should be taught in schools but never was...
The hubris of doctors yanking organs out. Mine are gone because my brother had ear aches a lot. Remember, you are listening to a Dr. right now. Think about that and all of the fear por n here.

I suffered as a kid and my parents ruled against taking them out. Moved to Japan in my 20s, to a very sunny environment and had a pretty healthy diet. Had kids there, but tonsillitis still plagued me at least 2x a year. Always had stones, bad breath - I had enough and got them out in my 30s at a Japanese hospital. The ENT surgeon showed me my white-pocked tonsils in a jar and said he'd never seen anything like them. Never felt better and don't regret my decision, at all.

As someone who used to suffer from chronic tonsillitis, tonsil stones and peritonsillar abscess once every month, I finally figured out what worked for me and now I dont get peritonsillar abscess or stones at all. I gargle twice daily with warm salt water and that clears all the food debris and microbes from the tonsil crypts, thus leading to no more tonsil stones and inflamed tonsils as a result. I also avoid drinking anything cold, ice creams, citrus fruits and anything sour. Hope this helps someone ✊🏼
Why would citrus hurt the tonsils ?
@@animalswin2105 The acidity in citrus fruits worsens tonsillitis
My grandmother did this every day her whole life and never had a sore throat or throat issue. I however, would get tonsil stones periodically for years and then developed two severe peritonsullar abseces in a one year period. Because they prevented me from breathing and prompted me to go to the ER due to the pain which was beyond anything I’d ever experienced, I had my tonsils removed since my ENT said absences have memory pockets and may come back since it strikes twice already. I should have kept up with the salt water rinse but on the bright side, I’ve never had a sore throat since and will never get another throat abscess.
This is my problem for the last 3 years. Thanks doctor!!!❤
I was plagued by painful bouts of tonsillitis all through my childhood and teens, almost monthly some years. Plus these stones would form in between bouts. Then in my 20's I also started getting bronchitis twice every year for ten years. In my thirties I read that there was a link with tonsillitis, bronchitis and dairy, so I gave up dairy. I never had tonsillitis or bronchitis ever again and now I'm in my fifties. My tonsils are very scarred but I'm so glad my dad wouldn't allow the doctors to take them out. I just wish someone back in the seventies could've told me there was a link with dairy.

Sounds like my story - only I had my tonsils out - when I was in my late 20s. I was definitely deficient in Vit D3, but didn't know it. Later, in my 40s when I started supplementing with D3, I got a surprise benefit of having all my plantar and perungial warts go away - on their own, no medical intervention needed! Woo hoo! However, I've never gotten rid of dairy. In fact, I consume more of it now than ever via yogurts and protein powders.
Sounds like my story but I did have my tonsils out. At 41 I recently gave up dairy because I heard it could be the cause of migraines. I haven’t had a single migraine and they were chronic! Cheese was my favorite thing but I’m reading a book called The Cheese Trap about how horrible it is for you to inspire myself to never touch the stuff again.

Tonsillitis is not tonsil stones. You never said how to get rid of them. You just said how to avoid tonsillitis.
He said, with vitamin D!! And I say, with sage tea. (But not too much- it has side effects) You can gurgle with salt water or natron water every day. You can go to the ear/throat doctor to help you get the stones out (through squeezing and scratching) first.
I suddenly developed tonsil stones for the first time about two years ago. The doctor was just like "yeah, that's your life now, sometimes it just happens". I don't get them as frequently, they randomly appear and disappear, especially in a back pocket in one tonsil. This really helps to make sense of it - thank you!

I take 10,000 IU all year. I recently had my D levels checked and they were within normal limits. I think most of us still have that fear that we might be over doing it. That comes from years of propaganda!
I have a history of strep throat when I was younger, I always assumed it was the strep that caused my tonsils to get holes in them and food got stuck in there and went bad. When sister had her tonsils removed, the old man bought 30 flavored ice-sticks. As a young kid, I'd beg, "Can I have just one???" The answer was "NO!" After three days, sister's blood sugar must have been all over the place and she couldn't stomach another. I was then offered any of the remaining 15 ice-sticks. This caused many caverns in my tonsils which allowed for bacteria and quite bad tonsil stones. I got my tonsils removed at around 22 and I haven’t observed any obvious ill effects. It turns out my brother was an asymptomatic carrier of strep, which is where I was getting it.
Here's my N=1. I had been fighting them for years. I went carnivore 2 1/2 years ago and one day realized it had been ages since I had noticed them or had to remove them. I went to the mirror to see if I could extract some, like maybe they just didn't smell anymore, but there were none there. Over the last 2 1/2 years I have occasionally either gotten off track (always during winter holidays or my daughter's birthday) or tried to reintroduce some vegetables. No matter what non-carnivore food I'm eating, if I eat off plan more than a few days I'll start getting them again. When I get back to strict carnivore they disappear. As to dairy, I can eat low carb dairy like cheddar cheese without bringing back tonsil stones, but if I eat or drink higher carb dairy like milk or plain Greek yogurt they'll start coming back. I do take vitamin D and K2, but I was taking those before going carnivore, back when I had horrible tonsil stones.

We also try to have him gargle every night with warm salt water. We were already gluten and dairy free, and taking sporadically: cod liver oil, vit C, vit D3/K2, and zinc. We will be looking in to incorporating more of your suggestions and getting him outside early in the morning for more sunlight. Thank you!!! ☀️🤗💗
OMG everything you just said sounds so right for me!! SInce I was little (now I'm 56) I've suffered from asthma, allegies, tonsil inflamation, you name it. I'm from Ensenada, Mexico and when I finished high school I went to the university in Guadalajara, with a milder climate, I never got sick there. when I finished college I started to work in Mexicali, a desert city next to Calexico, CA, very dry, but my health improve as well, 10 years ago I moved back to Ensenada and my health is going back to where I was almost 40 years ago!!
Got my tonsils removed at 45 a month ago. Pain was tough for 6-7 days but you get through it. Now, no more tonsil stones!!!! For the first time in my life I’m not worried about my breath.
Bad move
You removed your tonsils because the tonsil stones were causing bad breath? Did you not watch the video or are you trolling? I guess what's done is done, but you treated a symptom rather than going to the cause of the symptom. And now, you may end up with more and/or worse symptoms. As other commenter said, bad move. Good luck to you.
No regrets here, either, and I made the best decision for myself with the information I had, just like people have done throughout history. ❤
I remember getting my tonsils removed.. it was a rough few days, but ever since it’s been amazing.
What age did you have them removed?
aneesahm4301 dunno how about him but I was 29 when I got mine removed.
Same.
I just had my 11 year old undergo surgery for removal of tonsils and adenoids. Thanks for sharing this information 😊
You’re the first and only person that explained the cause of this. Thank you!
Glad to help!
😮 I just remembered that you're why I started taking extra vitamin D! It's true that it helps, y'all. And cutting out as much dairy as possible, too. I have always had big ole tonsils, but the one that ALWAYS had tonsil stones shrunk down some. It's been nice. My right one sometimes gets them. Very nice change. Better breath for sure!
My teenage daughter has had a problem w tonsillitis and tonsil stones over the past year, but her breath is never bad.
Get her profresh…it takes care of tonsil stones and will prevent her from ever having to go through bad breath humiliation
I used to get these when I was younger! I used to think I had food stuck there , would try and flick it out. They felt like tiny stones even!!! Not had since I was 14 . Glad to know what they really were . Thank you 🙏🏻
I was looking for this video two weeks ago when it didn't exist. Dr. Berg just gets me! 😆
I was constantly sick as a child with strep throat, ear infections, pneumonia etc. Hospitalized many times every year. Finally my pediatrician said, its time to take out her tonsils and adenoids. I was 5 at the time. Im 62, i never get sick, im talking never. Never had the flu, never had another ear infection, pneumonia etc. Many of my friends have asked me do I ever get sick...nope I don't. Having that surgery probably saved my life. No regrets here.
Same here had strep throat all the time and got sick constantly.had them removed and never been sick again. No regrets here!!
Your story is identical to mine, except that I finally had my tonsils removed when I was 15. I do not regret it one tiny bit!
I would occasionally get those in the morning after waking up when I was insulin resistance. I thought I just needed to brush my teeth & gargle. Did keto lost 70pds reversed insulin resistance/pre diabetes. Problem gone. Wow interesting info. Never knew!
❤Such an amazing topic. Thankful for your explanation and so great content dr Berg ❤
Dr. Berg you are amazing and so appreciated. The knowledge you share has changed a lot in my life .
I deeply appreciate your kind words.
Hey Dr.Berg I love your videos and they have transformed my health the intermittent fasting and healthy keto, but lately I have been counter seeing a lot of videos that say Fasting is bad for women, it slows metabolism, it lowers progesterone which is needed for fertility, I am 28 and that is something that concerns me, can You please do a Video on this and elaborate your thoughts, would love to hear your opinion on this❤🙏🏻
Thank YOU! My daughter has these! I sent this to her.
Doctor, @ 4:46 you mention the lower incidence of infection seems to be due to more sun exposure, hence vitamin D production. But lower incidence of infection with sunshine might also be due to higher levels of UV in sunshine…Disinfecting surfaces. Not just vitamin D production
I had mine removed as a kid and no issues either way. I'd bet oil pulling would get rid of tonsil stones though. It helps me with sinuses and headaches in addition to teeth.
My 8 year old granddaughter was receiving the nasal spray flu vaccine at school unbeknowst to me. She was suffering from tonsillitis monthly for 2 years. They would become inflamed and she would have a week off school. When I found out about the nasal flu spray, I begged my daughter not to sign the consent forms anymore and educated her on what I'd found out about these awful vaccines. My daughter agreed and since my granddaughter has stopped having the nasal spray, her tonsillitis has disappeared. She's not had an attack for almost 2 years now and they were a regular occurance, monthly as I said.
How often did they administer the nasal flu vaccine yearly? I’m glad she is better now God Bless
You sound so ignorant. Your granddaughters immune system was working as it should when given a vaccine. Without it she will have to fight off the real flu, possibly needing to be hospitalized or god forbid lose her life. But yeah vaccines are so awful 😞
Those vaccines are all poison , you should not let her get that crap .
Pull your kids out of public school
@@Skinman366 For MANY reasons.
I had mine removed! Greatest decision ever! My daughter has hers removed as well.
I had my tonsils removed aged 6. I later has acne. But the root cause cause was I'm Rhesus Negative Blood type O. So allergic to most dairy products and sugar. I was Macrobiotic and am now Keto. Thanks Dr. Berg. God bless you 😊
I was just thinking about this, few hours ago.. Thankyou .
Thank you Dr Berg! 🙋💕
This is amazing information, I'm a med 2 medical student and this is something they didn't tell us, also I suffer from these at times and I'm also vitamin D deficient, thank you for this information 😊 💜🙏🏾
Please keep researching and learning beyond the curriculum. Your patients will appreciate you ♥️
Good holistic perspective. I must say I was very happy to have then removed - the inflamation was hard to live with. Now 20 years later, still happy with my decision. I can imagine it can be hard for our tonsils to ‘work’ with our current day environment
I used to have these bad. As a teenager I called them "bad breath particles". I would use Q-tips to push them out of my tonsils daily.
I found removing them would stave off soar throat. I didn't start removing them untill well into adulthood. No doctor ever said boo about them . I would cough and one would fly out , thought it was from my lungs for a long time. Years of suffering needlessly.
I had them as a teen too! So embarrassing! I would bleed trying to get them out but they would go deep . I think I had a milk allergy. Eventually went away. My sister had them too .
I've had tonsils stones; I didn't know that that's what it is called. Little white soft pellets embedded toward the back, soft tissue. I'm 57, and I know was in my 20's, 30's, early 40 I think, getting them. Maybe even a little younger. I would pluck them out with a Q-Tip. Some times white residue would come out. It was so nasty and they smelled. I don't have them anymore, thank goodness!
This guy is a genius, and I watch all the videos whether I need to or not. Good info! =)
What a great video Dr. Berg. I had those tonsil stones when I was in my teens and twenties. I also contracted strep frequently. In my early twenties, I had my tonsils removed. When I was in my thirties I was diagnosed with autoimmune disease. Interesting there is a correlation to autoimmune disease with having your tonsils removed.
I had tonsil stones in my early twenties, also had chronic strep throat and was put on antibiotics many times until the doctor decided to remove my tonsils when I was 23, taking antibiotics gave me gut issues that took many years to correct! For breakfast every day I eat plain yogurt with chia seeds, 1/4 cup of raw pumpkin seeds and 1 free range organic egg with my vitamins which has helped my digestive system get on track!
We don't eat breakfast on this channel
Have you tried Raw milk?
@@djurius😂
Thanks Doc
Well, that explains it. I grew up in Alaska and was always cold and always sick. Tonsils and then scarlet fever. Had those stones through my mid thirties until I moved to Texas, where I spend a lot of time outside in the sun. I love the heat, and 100 degrees doesn't bother me. I also take vitamin D3 in the winter now. Thanks, Doc.
Oh my goodness, my 11 year old got her tonsils out about a year ago at the insistence of our ENT.... Because they were large and she snore that was the indicator that she needed them removed. Now i see your video and i have great guilt that i had them removed! Her adenoids were also removed....... It was a difficult recovery for a child and i am filled with regret..... ugh.... why didn't the Doctor tell me anything you said Dr. Berg?! We really do have to be our own advocates!! There was a question of my two other children possibly needing the surgery also, I am so grateful to you Dr. Berg! For now i know what to do to help my children!!! Thank you for being our advocate!!!
Your misplaced feelings of guilt are only harmful to both you and your children, and you greatly risk teaching them either the same practice, or even worse the over-reactionary practice of finger-pointing and blame-gaming others. It's quite common, sadly. Breathe slowly. Seriously, who else would you treat that way?? Keep your head - and your heart - and move forward in learning. Take care..
Parenting is the hardest job. We learn so much as we go along. Don't beat yourself up.
Yeah I was told that too- sleep apnea and then my child had complications and icu. I also regret trusting as I did.
But we can only do the best with the information we had at the time
I am shocked that a responsible doctor would perform this kind of barbaric surgery These days
YOU ARE THE BEST AND THANK YOU, AS ALWAYS!
Thank you! Your appreciation means a lot!
Thanks for your kind words.
@@Drberg :o)
Thank for your teaching
I was suffering from Tonsil Stones. Got my Tonsils removed. Problem solved!!! I Wish i Had IT done sooner!
Is there anything that Dr.Berg doesn't know? He is THE BEST! ❤🙂THANK YOU!❤
Thank you for your comment. Wishing you a great day.
When I used to have dairy I used to get tonsil stones, I also found too much dairy and sugar made it worse. They were bad enough to make me stop eating 🐄 related products! 😂 Also thank so much for putting out all the information you do I've learned so much especially about cancer, sadly my dad has been diagnosed with a tumour but it's given me hope knowing there are possible natural ways to treat it with the case studies you have uploaded.
It’s a crying shame people don’t know the benefits of Raw Dairy vs Ultra Pasteurized Dairy. Raw Dairy is levels above Commercialized Dairy.
I am 48 and now discovering what I have had for virtually my whole life and how to prevent it. Thank you. I always called them "throat cookies."

I'm 76 and I still have my Tonsils. Which is lucky since they were removing kids' Tonsils all the time, in the '50s... My Mother gave us spoonfuls of Cod Liver Oil, and I grew up running wild in the country... Have always had a wonderful Immune System.
Was it flavored or straight?
Fun fact. If you've removed your tonsils because of this issue and haven't addressed the root cause, you might feel great temporarily but your body will find another area to target and cause you pain and sickness signalling your attention until you fix the root cause... so while you think you've fixed the issue you've simply put a bandaid over the warning light
I’ve lost 80 pounds by listening to your guidance. It’s also been super helpful to find out what I’ve been deficient in. Thanks Dr. Berg!
Doc, you are really very good at lymphatic tissue voices. 😂 Such a great way to make learning fun. Keep up the great work doc. We appreciate it.
This is everything that was wrong with my health as a child…not enough sun, drinking soda, and drs treating my tonsillitis with antibiotics 🙄🙄🙄
Amazing information, Dr Berg. Since I found your channel my overall health has improved by following your helpful advice. Thank you so much 😊❤
I appreciate your kind words. Glad I could assist.
