    • Yes, I thought that was pretty cool too!

    • It is pretty great for getting around in a forest or anywhere where you don't have permission to drive a car. This is actually my "car" anyway. I use it for everything, it can fit two kids and a Christmas tree or loads of shopping. But every weekend I use it for my photography trips :-) But they can be pretty expensive.

  • Hi Peter. I totally agree with you. We often place too much emphasis on sharpness/filling the entire frame with the subject and totally forget about composition - and as you say - creating a story. Another great video. Cheers!

  • Thank you, Peter. I have that Tamron lens and a D7100 crop sensor and have found that f8 is terrific. Informative video as usual, I found it very useful.

  • Hello Peter, I follow you with interest, you are very good and make interesting videos. I wanted to ask you what type of seeds you use for the birds that appear in this video, Jays and Woodpeckers, and whether you just need to put them in the same morning as the photos or whether you have to get them used to them by bringing them food in the days before. I use RAW THERAPEE for photo editing, and I use an A7RIII + 500mm F8 Tamron catadioptric and I often have to use high ISO with cloudy skies, in the shade or in the evening, and for now with many vicissitudes and adjustments I can manage the noise quite well , but I would like software that allows you to select the areas to apply noise reduction, and, unless I noticed RAW THERAPEE does not allow you to do this: does DXO Photolabs do this? If not, do you know of any software that allows this?

    • I use peanuts, hazel, hemp seed, and almost any bird seed mix I can get in any grocery store. Normally, I try out the location I have chosen by placing a little seeds. Take a shot with your phone. When you come back a day or two later and see if anything is missing. If yes, then you have a good spot. Set up the hide, and come back the next day, and put some new seeds. Noise reduction in DXO Photolab is global, and this works for 99% of my images. If I need local adjustments, I will take the photo to either Photoshop or Affinity Photo. I hope that helps :-)

    • I use Darktable, which let's you apply noise reduction using a mask. I think it's worth a try.

  • Poor audio.

    • I had a few episodes where I had to rely on the shotgun mic, which wasn't so great. Sorry about that, but otherwise the audio should be OK considering it's recorded outside on the move. If you have some suggestions for how I can improve it, I would love to hear about it.
