There's something special about old diesels. Even when you think they're on their last leg, they're still not giving up.
Salutare Razvi 💪💖
The first one is so low on compression it barely starts
3:52 the moment when exhaust is 90% louder than the engine itself
🤝💪
This is exactly the thing, I love the most, about old vehicles. It's not just about flicking the key in the ignition. It's a process. A procedure, and the best is, that you don't know, if you'll going to be successful, and how many attempts you'll gonna need, to start it up successfully. And those bosses, and whistles are just so gorgeous ❤ J.
Thanks friend and glad you liked it!🤗👍💖
That's because you have the time and don't need to rely on it. I'mm sure that if you had to get to work in the morning you'd prefer to get ion and go rather than go through the crap shoot of will it start/won't it start.
I love how almost all of these engines go from dead cold to flat out high rpm! Bet they last long
👉🤝
Yum fee
My thoughts exactly
Each crank spin creates some oil pressure, imagine some oil pressure for 2 min...
@@Twenty3_Motorsport not sure about the oil pressure thing, I'm not competent to talk, but revving the piss out of a cold engine is always bad no matter what, I ride dirt bikes and they are very fragile when cold, *you will* mess up your engine in no time if you do that before warming the engine up to operating temperature, so you have all the parts come to their correct clearances before you put the engine at very high rpm
I dont know what im impressed by more, the starter motors or the extremly good video quality...
Thank you my friend

That tractor at 5 min part in video,,,,no front wheels or radiator. Nice way to start with a burning flame. And choking hazzard with that smoke,,,but nice flames out of the twin exhaust manifold in the end. Sounds like the diesel injectors are shot too,,,not going on all cylinders.
Nick ...thank you
@@tractorsmachinesro1405 No worries. Have u got the tractor going a lot better after engine fuel injection overhaul,,,etc,,,along with getting the front wheels and radiator back in place since the video back earlier? Looks like that tractor had done a lot of work back then.

The red Belarus has had the original engine pulled out , the chassis rails cut & stretched , & a bigger , possibly ex lorry 6 cylinder engine shoehorned in , bloody difficult stuff to do , but a prospective excellent result in progress , guys here used to do this with Fords , Nuffields ( which became Leylands ) International Harvesters , & Masseys , it takes skilled experienced blokes to get it right , but fantastic when they do , the mechanics here are to be congratulated . Try doing this in a stone cold shed in Russia . This job always needs to be on a bomb - proof gearbox & back axle , as just bags more power . My old dad used to like Belarus tractors for their toughness , I,m a brit . I once looked at one at the old royal show , but was bothered about getting parts , from Minsk , so asked the rep , he said & I quote " Vlad says , you pay bill , anything at all , 24 hours by plane ! " just unbeatable .
Thank you my friend
This is not Russia. Its a Romanian tractor U650... modified engine.
In the late 90s I was an outside parts salesman for an Western Canadian Freightliner Dealer. One of my customers was a Hutterite Brethren Colony that bought wrecked semi tractors and other machinery and Renewed them for resale. They had bought a bunch of surplus brand new Cummins natural aspirated 220 diesels engines used in Gulf War Humvees. I bought and resold 5 of these engines. 2 were sold for irrigation pumps, 2 for old graders and one to replace an Allis Chalmers farm tractor engine. I resold them for $5000 Can. In the case of the Allis they reworked the frame somewhat and installed the Cummins. Although it didn't have a Turbo the engine performed very well and was still there 10 years later. And including labour the replacement saved the farmer $6000. The key was the exceptional mechanic who had retired the year before from a local farm equipment dealer.
Работал на МТЗ -82 стартерных , заводился в минус 30 спокойно со второй попытки, вообще надо сделать на заводе, поставить на каждый цилиндр свечу накаливания, как на Мерседес 207 , заводился с полтыка.

I Still like my Kubota tractor better , it starts first time every time and I have had it for 17 yrs and it starts in our very cold Canadian winters, minus 25 to minus 40 plus

It’s all about climate And the machine gets used to it. Like here we don’t get super cold but if we do we can barely get anything to start. But somewhere like Canada they start like nothing in the same temperature
@@xade7863 A lot of suppliers/manufacturers will knock the timing of the diesel injector pumps back, or forward to compensate for regional weather - we see it often in the UK with imported scandinavian machinery.
@@craigywaigy4703 true in some cases but the older tractors wouldn’t start with the timing changed or not cause it didn’t have enough compression

Can someone explain how holding a lit fire helps when trying to start the engine? To me it would seem that you are using up all the oxygen that the engine would have had if not for the flame, and this seems to be support because I noticed that three of the engines where this method was tried the engine didn't end up starting off of, for example, the first engine I can remember seemed to not respond to a lit flame very well and I noticed that it seemed to want to roll over when the flame wasn't there it just need a bit more time just on the starter to start up. And then another they tried holding a flame then they switched to ether and it started up running off the either where then once the gas was there it continued to run on fuel. What gives?
Air heating
These are diesels, and diesels always run lean (excess oxygen in cyl, even after combustion.) They have no spark plugs, and are instead ignited by the heat of the air charge being compressed. When the air charge and combustion chamber are dead of winter cold, especially if the engine has lost some of its original compression, the engine may not reach diesel auto-ignition temperature without help. Modern diesels use glow plugs or block heaters. The Cummins in first gen Dodges actually had an electric heating element grid in the intake for this. Yanmars used to come from the factory with a cute little diesel hurricane lamp in the intake for very cold starts. Did the same thing as these farmers do with their diesel n rag torches, just in a tidy Japanese package.
@@NullHandgreat explanation thanks!

Do any of these tractors normally use glow plugs?
I was thinking the same 😅 I guess maintenance also isn't in their dictionary 😂
@@henrique14211 Yeah, makes me curious. I know diesel engines without glow plugs exist, but was wondering why these weren’t able to start without feeding some fire down their intakes.
@@Simon-dm8zv they need all that because probably are indirect injection engines, I have a friend who had a car with izusu engine (diesel indirect injection) and had the glow plugs relay falling on him, almost 15minutes to start the car 😂 And it's not to cold here temperatures usually don't go below 0C even in the winter
Salutare Simon
The little kubota as shown has glow plugs but alot of the other tractors had a cold start button on the injector pump but in very very cold winters that wasn't enough so a bit of heat comes in handy especially for diesels, the cat challanger id say shes been sat for a very very long time possibly due to a fuel problem or just been abandoned for a newer machine
