Sharon found Sylvie after she was hit by a car. Her mom didn’t make it but Sharon nursed Sylvie back to health. Soon after Tina joined the family. She was an older wombat who needed to be treated for mites. At first the two didn’t get along, but they soon warmed up to each other and they are now best buds. Unfortunately they will have to be released into the wild soon, but Sharon is forever grateful for the time they had together.

  • Wombats are very special animals. They need proper care and should only live in the wild. Just like these two , Tina and Sylvie ❤

  • My older sister was a zookeeper and a wildlife rescue volunteer in Missouri. We raised so many Opossum Joeys after their moms were struck by cars. Hundreds! All but one were able to be released back to the wild, but Roscoe was the best surrogate mom to those little ones. I had a pretty cool childhood!

    • It is illegal to keep a wombat as a pet in Australia so the aim is to release orphaned or injured animals if this can done safely after treatment and rehabilitation.

  • I have to admit - every time one of these videos come up where I know the animals will be released back out into "nature" I cringe a bit. It was "nature" (often the result of human intervention) that brought them there in the first place - mother killed, climate change, etc. I know they should be in nature but their little bubble of safety is safer...

  • These must be hamsters from Fukushima? No? Then these are groundhogs from, Chernobyl. No? Well and they are the squirrels in the backyard of, 3 Mile Island. No? These things are a sorry excuse for, and irradiated guinea pig. No? These are definitely, ridiculous critters. I never knew exactly what a, Wombat, was? They definitely look like a fun critter. They certainly are cute. And can they be housetrained? Will they use a litter box? What and who, do you feed them? You Aussies have all the cool,, animals. But no more Steve Irwin. We miss, so much.
