His buddy gad a .220 swift and after he shot out of a 26" barrell fire and powder blistered their sheets. Couldn't burn all the powder. 22 in 30-06 case necked down is just too much powder. Wonder what it would do with today's powders. Eat out the barrells real fast as well.

It'll lose some of it's muzzle velocity, but retain it longer. As it is, 40-50 grain bullets (the norm for the 22-250 and the relatively mild twist rate) have terrible BC's and drop velocity very quickly. As fast as it is at the muzzle, it drops off so quick that 500-600 yards is about it's useful max range.

  • 22 250 is a very under rated round that is quite capable of out performing both 223 and 556 weight for weight the 22 250 has much higher velocity with no difference in bullet diam. You should try some solids in the 22 250 non hollow point not the easiest to find but they do exist if i recall you can get steel core ones as well and those will chew up steel targets but good. • .22-250 bench rifle with 50gr V-max at 100 yd. Shooting a stack of old latex paint cans (full), with a series of cheap flat-faced 10lb lifting weights between cans in an alternating tower. Results: the lid of the paint cans is pressed with so much internal pressure against the weights, that it extrudes a perfect hole, the diameter of the weight bar's hole, out of the lid as the can explodes. This was done following a public County shooting competition at my grandfather's (a gun dealer/gun smith) place. We'd placed a backdrop of paper behind the target to try and make "modern art." All the paint sort of flies upward, not backwards, so no art was created. The consistent fluid-pressure steel extrusion was more than amusing though.

Talk about a flat trajectory, there is no drop. Not only do I like being introduced to knew pistols but new calibers, and this one was a shocker to most people. Thank you Scott! Keep doing what you do. One of your best and my favorite and I would like to see more with this gun. And possibly pull in others which are also fun, since this one doesn't kick and won't scare your friends (hint hint). You have a large assortment of things to test and great ideas. V/R, Kevin P.S. • So for those who might have questions about if the bullet is going how fast he says its going, at the 100 yard test with the water jugs, it took 5 frames between the recoil starting (aka the bullet has been fired) and it striking the target. That's about 0.08333- seconds (at 60 fps), which means in order to go 300 ft (100 yards) in 0.08333- seconds, it must be travelling at an average of about 3600 ft/s. Take into consideration that the bullet needs to accelerate to its speed after the recoil starts and some deceleration due to air resistance.. and its peak velocity of 3800 ft/s isn't too far off the mark. Science.

    @louthinator@louthinator2 ай бұрын

  • This reminds me of "That Gun" from Fallout: New Vegas, which was a semi-auto pistol chambered in 5.56. Surely, if they can make a 22-250 pistol work, then they can whip that up for Fallout fans!

    @nightsong81@nightsong812 ай бұрын
    • you could do it, but a practical model wouldn't look anything close to that gun. 5.56 out of 4-5 inch barrel would create a lot of blast but not very much power.

      @minkinomics3002@minkinomics30022 ай бұрын
    • There are numerous semi-auto pistols chambered in 5.56. Most are called "AR pistols," though there are others. "That Gun," was a revolver, but it was really just a replica of the gun from Blade Runner. That's why it's called "That Gun," because people asked the devs to put "that gun from Blade Runner" into the game. And for the record, a revolver in 5.56 would be _awful_ unless you made it like the Nagant where it has no cylinder gap, because the blast from the gap would be terrible and probably get you kicked out of most gun ranges.

      @Bacteriophagebs@Bacteriophagebs2 ай бұрын
    • @@Bacteriophagebs You're right. I forgot the one in New Vegas was a revolver. I must have gotten it mixed up with the .223 pistol from Fallout 1 & 2, which I always thought was a semi-auto, because it was supposed to just be a cut down rifle. But looking now at the wiki, apparently that one was a revolver, too, so I'm just wrong.

    • ANY 30-30 is LOUD, doesn't matter what it is being fired out of. This is a first for me, though, I never heard of a 30-30 Pistol, ever. That sounds good on paper until you actually fire it; too much power in the bullet for the weight or stability of the handgun. Clearly difficult to control so I really don't blame your 14-year-old self for not being accurate with it; I doubt many adults would be either.

It was a weird shooting position… on the back, feet towards the target, knees bent, pistol barrel braced against the leg, looking through the scope at arms length. I don't know why that position. That's just what he showed me. Anyway, after about 5 or 6 shots of getting close but not hitting anything, it wasn't really fun anymore. His old 45 and 357 revolvers, on the other hand. Those were fun.
