  • This should eliminate Ovtcharov for Paris singles. Not only that he lost but how he plays in the last months. Franziska and Boll have played some of their best TT with very impressive wins. Will be interesting how Qiu, Franz and Bolll fare against their widely favoured opponents in the quarterfinals.

    • Tbf Ovtcharov and Franz got to the same round in the last Star Contender (Goa) and Ovtcharov was equally bad if not a little bit better in the team competition than Franz (lost against Gerassimenko, but almost won against Lin yun ju; Franz lost against Kao and almost against an Irani player). Olympia singles: Boll, Qiu Olympia team: Boll, Qiu, Ovtcharov (my guess)

    • @@sheepcantswim Disagree. Dima is in general not really at a good place now for quite some time. Reaction time, ball placement it all lacks. Timo Boll played at least two leagues above him in Singapore and he does that since the year began. Look at his last match he was incredible competitive vs the chinese. So Timo should definititely be a lock after this performance. Second place should go to Qiu regarding performance. I dont see any way were Dima could be favoured above any of them

    • Timo has clearly been gearing up for Olympics. Not entirely convinced about Qiu. Personally I feel Franz has better techniques but his performance can't really prove it.

  • Ovtcharov has no service advantage against Franziska. None of his serves work. So that’s a big weapon gone.

  • That first game was one of the strangest I've ever watched. Dima goes up 4-0, loses the next 10 points in a row, then brings it back to 9-10 before losing. Anyway, I expected Franziska to win as he's just been playing so well recently.

    • he's got a lot of a heavy power which can be bruising on target, but it is clear Patrick is far more nimble/flexible.
