Telescopic is the way to go, whenever I lose stylus' and need to buy replacements I make sure they're based off the original 3ds Telescope stylus

How the hell did they not add the Thumb Stylus for other DS systems, it would've been a godsend for later games that got crazy combining buttons and stylus controls. Also, you can add The World Ends With You as a Switch game that "needs" the stylus.

i remember thinking the original 3ds stylus was the coolest thing ever, it made the system feel even more premium to me as a kid. tho i learned quickly not to extend it to the max all the time since it started to bend from all the pressure i put on it. i was one of "those" to only extend it half way after that

The wii remote is a stylus. Imagine if you could play DS games on the original Wii and you use the Wii remote to do all the pointing where the A button counts as you tapping on the screen wherever the cursor is. If you don't believe me there was a Wario Ware game that literally did that so.

Ahh, your N3DSXL has peeling paint as well. Mine started peeling just six months after I bought the system >.> ive been using a protective shell ever since.
Same, had the system since ~2016 and over time, after a lot of use, the paint just kinda flaked off. Only on the backplate though wich I need to replace anyways.. because the screws broke off.

I actually love the bottom stylus location. It allows me to pull it out with one finger while the system is open.

New 3DS owner here. My stylus falls out all the time. I lost the one that came with it and used my finger for like 3 years until I bought a pack of 3rd party ones that fall out easier.
I took off the backplate and put some tape in where the stylus goes so mine doesn’t fall out

2:55 I really liked this kind of stylus as a kid! Not only was it more comfortable in the hand, it also felt like it glided smoother over the touch screen. If the new larger stylus at 4:13 is anything like it, I can understand why you put it on first place.
And... My only "switch" stylus is the one that's the pre order bonus for the Hong Kong version of Etrian Odyssey. That game is kinda designed to be played with a stylus and you got to wonder why that stylus isn't bundled in box, but rather just a pre order bonus.
Also that game is inconveniently priced over 400 RMB in conversion and I got taxed 9.1% to have it imported to the main land. For how much Sega Hong Kong seems to care about the mainland market got to think that's probably an oversight.
9:09 I've had this happen on my small new 3DS as well. I believe it has to do with the smaller nub on the side of the stylus that actually grips the system. As it gets used, the plastic gets worn down to the point where it won't grip in the system anymore

i have the colors live sonarpen and its very good at what its designed to do!! the pressure sensitivity is someof the best on any drawing tablet ive used, INCLUDING my surface pro pen, which was very surprising

straight up have been using my yellow telescopic stylus for the last decade- lost the one that came with my original second hand 3ds, have no clue where the one that came with my galaxy 3ds went or when i lost it, and all of the original and cheap 3rd party ones i got for my original DS back in the day are probably microplastics in the dust of my house by now. i got the yellow one from a pack either i or my siblings bought around ten years ago and i've managed to keep track of it. when i lent my galaxy 3ds to my sibling for them to fix something and try out some modding, i drove home not to lose it! i'm pretty attached to it somehow lmao

YES! OMG! I Thought I chewed it to the point it won’t fit (I have sensory issues) so I got a new one and…. It didn’t stay in. I taped a stylus in because I HATE the way it feels without one and use my Apple Pencil.
My non-XL NN3DS also had this issue, and I'm somewhat sure that's why it disappeared

The funny thing is: the Video is about how big and long the Stylus are (that what she said) But for me: i was always thinking about, how well you can "write" with it, without feeling writing on "rubber" or if the tip of the stylus has a higher chance to scratch the Touch Screen easer. So for me, jumping from old NDS to old 3DS Stylus was a huge improvement, on how easy you can slide over the touch screen
I, too, have my New 3DS XL stylus sticking ever so slightly out of the unit, almost (but not quite) like it's about to fall out.
There was also a stylus that came with Etrian Odyssey Origins! In Japan.... as a pre-order bonus. So that's two Switch Styluses that are Japan only.
That DS phat thumb strap stylus is actually pretty neat. I used that for Kid Icarus Uprising, and managed to dodge most of the woes that come with that game as a left-handed person (since I put it on my right thumb).
i'm 99% sure the one i bought a few years ago is an official nintendo stylus that would go above the current S tier rating here. It's like a functional clicky pen with a rubber grip on the bottom, exactly like a pen. I got it for cheap

The best type of stylus is actually the random one you get given when buying a second hands 3ds online, that does not fit into the slot, meaning you have to use a rubber band so you don't lose it (very informative video, turns out I have a 2ds stylus)
Shoutout to that Theatrhythm preorder stylus, it's my personal pick. High quality texturing, no weird gimmick shape, perfect tip. I once lost mine in the bowels of the family car, and the day a year later where it finally decided to roll back into the light was one of the happiest of my life.
Another thing to remember about the Stylus is that many of us first used them as children. Meaning I’m willing to bet the original DS stylus and ones after were designed around children. Although the most comfortable and best stylus by far has to be the Nerf DS foam case Stylus. Which was large and covered in foam making it super firm interior and soft outside. It was literally the only stylus I could use for super extended periods of time.

I have the new 3DS XL because I liked the pokeball design, and because of how short the stylus is, I keep spare 2DS styluses inside its case for when I wanna use one 😭
As a left handed person, I absolutely love the position of the stylus in the original DS and 3DS, dont need to switch hands once I take it out.
For me the best Styluses are definitely the ones in the DS Lite, DSi, DSi XL, 3DS XL and 2DS. Since they had the best placement and were the most comfortable ones

I've played a lot of Mario Maker 2 or rather used it a lot. And a touch pen is a neccecity. I got a pack of cloth/mesh tip stylus'es of amazon uk shiped to norway just so i could use smm2 optimally.
honestly I think the og 3DS Stylus was by far my favorite one of the lot that you would fit into their respective console. But I also happen to be a lefty, which actually makes the stylus placement LESS annoying compared to the DS lite and DSi line.

for the N3DSXL loose stylus issue, I recommend putting a bit of gaffer's tape in the slot when the faceplate is off to make a soft grippy padding to the slot, it's held on much better in the years since I've done that.
About the New 3DS XL stylus, I had that happen to me too eventually and i just put a bit of tape inside of the spot the stylus goes in and it made it way more snug, it doesnt really pop out anymore as a result.

Alright, yes, but- Bottom stylus is actually great. After some time you know exactly where it's located and just slide it out with whatever hand is your dominant one. You're not forced to awkwardly get it out with your left hand and then either hold the system weirdly while trying to get it over to your left hand or place it down, you can just use the correct side from the start. As a left handed person, I love that change. (Top stylus is probably good too for the same reason, never tried it out tho)

Yeah, the New 3DS XL loosening over time to eventually falling out entirely by itself just by turning the system upright is a huge problem I have too. I keep having to buy new ones. What's funny is when I first buy a new one, I have a ton of trouble getting it out of it's holder that I need to pry it out using something else, and then it eventually falls out on its own.
Base 3ds stylus is top tier, it’s so good, it’s the only one I have that feels precise
I got some Bowser's Inside Story ones back in the day, they have little figurines on the top which is neat Got a couple with blorbed Toads and one with a Blitty Still a little upset I never got Fawful
We can fight all we want over which stylus is the best, but my only issue is that the new 3ds systems’ styluses are fatter and don’t fit with any other systems. Sure the styluses of ds lite, dsi, 3ds, etc. may not perfectly fit each other, but at least they still slide in and more or less lock in place

i got a used new 3ds for christmas and hated the stylus so much that i just taped it directly into the system and bought normal DS lite styluses to replace it. it was so beaten up it was falling out and i kept losing it anyway. i might look into the pen stylus now though

The DS styluses are what broke my habit of chewing on my pens because I realized it destroyed the nub that holds the stylus in the system. Unfortunately, my siblings never learned this and I usually wound up with a chewed up stylus after I let them borrow my DS.
I also had the issue of the stylus becoming loose on my New 2DS XL. The cause of the looseness is because over time as you take out the stylus the nub rubs against the system and it wears it down. I just wrapped a piece of scotch tape around it to increase the thickness.
This video is where I learned(?) about mesh-tip Nintendo Switch styluses.

My DS Lite came with two knockoff 3DS styluses, which are built fine, but the telescoping parts get all wobbly when fully extended (it also gets really slippery when I play Rhythm Heaven). So yes, I am that person who prefers it halfway extended :p
