  • If anyone has actually ever been coached & trained by a professional fighter, the fact that Overeem could put five bouncers in the hospital comes as little surprise...I remember one Monday morning my Muay Thai coach (a pro fighter from Brazil, who was also a black belt in judo & jujitsu) didn't show up to teach my group Muay Thai class at my gym in San Diego...this was very uncharacteristic of him, since he never missed teaching a class...the next day he came to teach class & one of my fellow students noticed he was wearing an electronic monitoring ankle bracelet under his long sweat pants...my coach, for reasons of his own, always carried his boxing gloves to class inside a very high quality open paper bag which he had from when he made a purchase at the Louis Vitton store...the gloves fit in just right...anyway, apparently the previous Friday, after class, he was walking through a high-end department store with his boxing gloves in the bag ..when he went to exit the store, a couple of plain clothes security officers stopped him & asked to look through his bag, & they demanded to see a receipt...my coach spoke English as a second language and he didn't understand what was going on...he thought these were just two random guys attempting to accost him & rob him...so, he refused to hand over his bag, & he began to continue forward out the exit...the two plain clothes security officers then attempted to stop him & restrain him...he very quickly dispatched the two of them...however, before he could leave, three more plain clothes officers, who had been monitoring the store's exits on video camera feed, all came running to assist their fellow officers, who were now laying spawled out & injured on the department store floor...my Coach then just as readily dispatched the following three plain clothes security officers...before they came running, they called the police...when the police arrived, they arrested my coach, & he had to spend the entire weekend in jail until the Judge could hear his case on Monday morning...he was assigned a Public Defender, who (believe it or not) turned out to be one of his students! He was really such a nice & mellow guy (but a very highly skilled professional martial artist), so his attorney was shocked that he was facing such serious charges...all of the security officers required medical attention at the scene, & a couple of them had broken bones & concussions...his attorney got him out on bail (&, she even posted his bail money for him)...the problem now was that he was really in a whole lot of trouble, & potentially facing time in prison...so, he made the decision to cut off the ankle monitoring device & a day or so later, he fled the USA & he moved back home to Brazil, & he's never returned (nor will he ever come back to the USA)...I was terribly disappointed that this happened to him, & that he left, because he was one of the best coaches I've ever had...he used to be one of the striking coaches for the Black House MMA Pro Team up in Los Angeles...&, he was very good friends with Big Nog & Little Nog, & he used to live in a beautiful brand new home they bought in Carlsbad..I followed him on Facebook for quite awhile after he left...about a year or so after he returned to Brazil, he married one of his MMA students...they had a beautiful baby daughter & they moved out to the country in the southern region of Brazil, & they started a strawberry farm, which turned out to be a very successful venture! The funny thing is my first jujitsu coach, who was also from Brazil, was a UFC fighter who fought under the name "Morango," which means "strawberry" in english...I realize this is a rather long-winded story, but it's all true, & I tell it simply to illustrate the fact that virtually any top-level pro fighter can easily go through five, or more, run-of-the-mill bouncers or security officers---none of them would stand a chance...&, a beast like Overeem & his brother could & would absolutely destroy 5 bouncers if provoked

  • Plot twist: Overeem was a shift supervisor at an events security firm, when a large inner city hospital requested 5 security staff to man the doors of their 24hour A&E department. First he logged the details on their CRM system, and sent the contract to the hospital. After they signed and returned it, Overeem selected 5 dependable bouncers and sent them over to the hospital to perform their duties. He was efficient and effective, as usual. Nice work Alistair 👏.
