The events depicted follow the claustrophobic and increasingly brutal world inside a World War II German U-boat, this show focuses on the German perspective, Through it all, the message remains as relevant today as ever: blind fanaticism pushes young men into pointless war.

The original Das Boot from the 80s was brilliant, this remake is far from brilliant. It tries to copy scenes from the original 1:1 without understanding what made the original brilliant. Also there are so many things just pure fiction and have nothing to do with the real history. Like the radio operator giving his sister a tour of the u-boat pen and then she goes even inside of the boat. Without permission she wouldnt even allowed to enter the u-boat bunker and she wouldnt be allowed to set one foot on the boat. Also new boats didnt pop out of nowhere in a french port to go right on a war patrol. The captain and the LI were "on bord" weeks befor a new boat left the dock and after that there was testing and training with the crew for 4-6 months in the baltic sea.

Awesome work.. many thanks
Insane that this is fully available here fantastic!
When I was a kid, I toured U-505 at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago. That was enough of a submarine experience for me, even though I later served in the USN. Also, from what I've read, the stench onboard was so bad that the cleaners working when they were in port often puked before they went in to start work.
That is why the Nazis were always referred to as "The stinking Nazis". They had a rule that they only ever washed once every three years, in order to save money to be spent on invading other countries, and slaughtering the populations. I hate this type of film, who cares what the most evil regime since the Romans, were like, they were Nazis. Nothing more, the scum of the world's history. I think I'll block the channel.
I heard that when the German subs returned to port the support crew that meet them had to stand back when the sailors were emerging from the sub otherwise they would faint from the stench

Dann empfehle ich den 3 teiler (nicht Direktors Cut) Das Boot von Wolfgang Peterson. Der einzig ernstzunehmende U-Boot Film bis heute. Die Serie ist nur ein schwacher Abklatsch dagegen :))
I saw this as "sneak" or "secret" movie on big screen in theater around 1985: a pitch black hall, and the seats were made of hard wood. A very well appropiate setting. The only movie with such impact on the viewers was Saving Pvt Ryan. I also think it was the longer "directors cut" version, as it was > 2:30 long. Putting on the 2nd spool takes less than 5 minutes. Early 2000s I talked with a person who had served on a UK nuclear sub. He had dives of 1 month non stop, on sea for 3 months... Only after retirement he could speak about it. tailin a crazy russian is no joke, esp for more than a week
GREAT movie. Saw it in the theatre when it first came out.

Thank goodness can see this in England and so it should it's part of what went on. Well done. And I too have Das Boat Dvd film and the other series. 😉
Being a U-boat crew member would be the riskyest job in WW2. I would rather of taken my chances on Normandy Nazi side D-day than U-boat at the start of the war
Nice series about German U-Boat warfare. I can't imagine horrors being trapped inside that steel coffin and waiting depth charges to blow you bits. Yikers. British had a "Hedgehog" depth charge thrower. It was really lethal against U-Boats. On modern Russian ships there is same kind of weapon: Multi barreled rocket Depth Charge launcher. Try to find game series called Silent Hunter on PC. It is really realistic on Sub warfare.
And thx. for the S2
Iron Coffins: A U-boat Commander's War, 1939-45 by Herbert Werner offers a startling and thoughtful insight.
They sank 1000s of cargo ships with 1000s of deaths. Unbelievably, the merchant seamen who's ships went back & forth, never got a WW2 campaign medal, nothing. It took a campaign in the 90s that finally gave them what they & those that died what they deserved, recognition for their service. The excuse was they were civilians. The ships that went to Russia with armaments for Uncle Joe in the winter was the worst of the worst these brave sailors endured.
Ça me bouleverse

( He had one the coolest photos I ever saw of the war, him and two other comrades with bushy beards and overalls drinking large beers on the deck of the U boat with a partial red Swastika on the con tower). 4) Have a phobia of drowning in pitch black freezing water. Never really thought about it till I saw the beginning
My grandfather served in a uboat as well. And he was heavily traumatized. I never knew about his wartime. When i was a little boy i once played on his knees and stupidly asked "hey granddaddy, tell me about war". His muscles tensed immediately and i fell down. He stared in the room paralyzedly and did not take notice of me. Learnt i should never again mention that word. But i have a claustrophobia in dark hot wet rooms. Which i know what its origins are since i learnt about his wartime from my mom.

Back in the 80's I spoke with one that survived the war. He said they once laid for 10 hours at the bottom of the sea 150m down because a destroyer threw depth charges at them. Must have been hell to sit down there and know you cannot get out. At this depth, one can't get out and go the the surface as one would die from doing so. The Brits captured an Enigma machine and cracked the codes. From there on the U-Boots were sitting ducks.
Enigmę rozpracowali dużo wcześniej polscy naukowcy.
@@zbigniewswieczak8061 Yes, 1929 they de-coded a non-military message from a non-military machine. The military version of the Enigma was a lot harder to decode though.
It didn't go all the Brit's way. The Germans cracked the British/American merchant marine coordination codes - they knew where each convoy was supposed to be.
great ending, as Smedley Butler wrote in his book 'War is a racket' as Prescott Bush showed and standard oil (Rockefeller) demonstrated during the war

I worked with some submariners of the RAN. They said most crew vomited when they got their first breath of fresh air when coming ashore after a cruise. (Oberon Class boats)
Really? They were pulling your leg as sailors do. I have been on an Oberon class submarine when it was in service in the RAN, though only for 1 day to check certain equipment. The boat stank of diesel from one end to the other when the diesels were not running, but apart from that it was ok. It certainly didn't make this non-sailing engineer feel crook. When underway battery charging, they open a hatch at the forward end and the diesel engine sucks fresh sea air along the whole boat.
@@keithammleter3824 you were on it for ONE day? Roflmao. Why do you think they have so much trouble getting crews?
@@kwakagreg The RAN has always, since acquiring the Oberon class, had some, but not major, difficulty getting enough crews. This was mostly due to the post-WW2 RAN being a very small navy, with a fire power equivalent to about one USN carrier task force. There was only a small pool of men from which suitable volunteers for submarine service could be selected. Since the scrapping of the Oberon class and the acquisition of the same number of Colins class subs, the RAN has had significant difficulty. Since it is widely known in Australian society that the Collins class are trouble prone duds, that is a strong disincentive to volunteer for submarine service, so getting enough crew is now harder even though the total strength of the RAN is now about 15,000 men and women. Since, due to the Collins class are duds, the RAN has never been able to sustain more than two subs in active service at any one time due to faults, and has often had, as is the case now, only one sub in service. So, most likely the RAN has not tried too hard to get crews - there would be not much point. Out of the six Collins class, which are diesel, a competent navy could be expected to have 3 or 4 in service while 2 or 3 rotate into scheduled refits, but the flaws in the Collins class have meant never more than 2 in service. The RAN has a terrible culture in regard to safety at sea and responsibility - the Westralia fire made that very very clear. Former RAN officers I know at work told me they left the RAN because they did not want to unnecessarily risk their lives for not good reason in peacetime. Commanders are expected to go on missions whether boats and crews are ready or not. But if something bad happens, commanders get the blame. Unless it becomes a major public scandal - then the official blame falls on someone who died, or on some poor contractor who can't defend himself (as in the Westralia fire). This of course means the root causes go uncorrected, and men don't like it.
I went on an Oberon after it had been at sea for a while. They'd been pumping fresh air in one end and sucking it out the other for about another before I boarded. When I went inside I almost vomited from the smell lol.
@@rowanshole The RAN used to occaisonally open an Oberon class to the public (with the secret stuff hidden and guarded) when visiting an Australian civilian port. It wouldn't do if they stank enough to make the public sick.

The torpedo launching procedure like shown in this movie surprises me to some extent: Standard "eel" (fish) of that period of the war (autumn '42) was the G7a with a gas-steam propulsion, identifiable by the broad and widely visible tail of bubbles blown out behind it. Standard speed of that fish was 44 knots at a maximum range of 6,000m. That speed could be reduced to 30 knots for an extended reach of 14,000m. In the practice of torpedo shooting one hardly ever shot at distances exceeding 2,000m for reasons of swiftly decreasing accuracy. That means, at high sea the higher speed of 44 knots was selected for obvious reasons and at distances of 1,000 - 2,000m. The 30 knots speed, however, was only selected for still lying targets at an anchorage or wharf, thus on largest possible distance. In this movie, all torpedos where launched at 30 knots speed on targets at high sea. This, however, makes no sense at all and thus represents a "movie flaw". This just for background information.
I guess that's why it's a movie and not a documentary!
@@bearcatracing007 Something else is striking: Several times torpedos were launched from the surface. For doing so, a manually operated "UZO" (="U-Boot-Ziel-Optik" = submarine aiming optic), usually handled by the 1st Mate, was a mandatory requisite. In this movie, however, no such UZO was seen at all - unlike at the 1981 u-boat movie of Wolfgang Petersen - instead everybody on the bridge was seen standing around holding mole monkeys for sale. Another obvious movie flaw!
tnk you for these informations..
@@Franz8x57the UZO was only mounted when the U-boat was surfaced, and it might surprise you that most of the torpedo attacks were done on the surface using the UZO. The attacks were primarily conducted during dusk, dawn or at night for obvious reasons. U-boats were not meant to stay submerged for long periods of time. They were more a diving boat than a submarine. Only at the end of the war the first true submarine was made operational. It even was faster submerged than when it was surfaced. There are U-boat handbooks from WW2 Kriegsmarine available, also logs etc that show that most attacks took place on the surface and not submerged, that came later due to the fact that the Allies became better and the skies were eventually patrolled non stop.
@@evertjan9479 Thank you for that information, but I knew all that long before for being a professional master mariner with decades of maritime knowledge and experience. Most is true of what you state above, but nothing of it "surprises" me. And I did not state anything to the contrary. However, to one respect I like to correct you: Certainly you mean the type XXI submarines "at the end of the war". However, these were NOT YET submerged faster than at the surface. Later post-war submarines were, but not yet this type. These were the top speeds achieved at trial runs of U-3003 - U-3007: At surfache: 15,37 knots with diesel engines (U 3507) 17,94 knots with electric engines (U 3005) 18,08 knots with combined diesel and electric engines (U 3507) the so called: "Drei Mal alles was drin ist, LI!" - emergency mode Submerged: 16,5 knots with electric engines (U 3507) 6,1 knots at creeping mode and 1 electric engine (U 3506) 10,42 knots with diesel motors and snorkeling (U 3503) Source: Eberhard Rössler: Geschichte des deutschen U-Bootbaus. Vol. 2 One could say that at the surface with diesel engines ONLY the speed of a XXI-type was 1,13 knots slower than submerged with electric engines.

Unrealistic crew behaviour: they act like pirates beating each other up during an underwater voyage.
I find the opening scene a little wrong. The Sunderland flying boat would not make its initial attacking run just with machine guns ,(nose turret 2 by 303 browning's) it would have launched depth charges as well. The Sunderland had them stored in the hull on the underside of the wing, when attacking they were cranked out, aimed and dropped on or about the sub. The plane had ample time to do this , the only reason would be if they were already used.
I heard that many film directors have to avoid realism in order to get the audience watching... You know the obvious reason, they do it cuz otherwise less people will consider it fun.

This film ranks way up there with the likes of Wolfgang Peterson's "Das Boot" and, at points, mimics the style in shot angle and audio tracks. In any event, this is a high production, well scripted and acted story about one of the most tragic and deadly areas of combat in WWII.
I can't agree with you. In my opinion, Das Boot (First film) is way better than serial, because Das Boot is made out of a book (Das Boot Lothar Günther Buchheim.). This serial is actually an oder story and not 100% about the crew of the U-Boot or it's story. The serial is mostly about French resistance and some of crew members, that are in resistance. Additionally, this is new film, it's new production, I think, the quality of audio, graphic doesn't matter if film have great story in it, great actors and even better scenario.

I could not see any torpedo tubes on the exterior of that U-boat.
“Go deep and be quiet” wasn’t the sum total of submarine tactics. After a depth charge run, the attacking ship is deaf for a bit, both from her own props, and the explosions (which also deafens any escorting ships). You can turn, stop, change depth possibly going below a thermal layer, or even jettison oil & junk from a torpedo tube, to make it look like the sub went to the bottom. Or, some combination of the above. Likewise, most Short Sunderland flying boats carried at least 8 small depth charges, or 8 250 pound bombs. Strafing a u-boat with machine guns was a hit-or miss kind of thing. Plus, on a calm sea day like that, you’d hear a 4-engined aircraft miles away. #MilHistNerd
Yes i agree with previous comments- the attacking Sunderland in reality would have dropped depth charges on the sub on it first run over them! Unless of course it had already used them in earlier action i which case it would probeley have shadowed the sub until anotther fully armed aircraft could take over the attack!

Según el libro:"Ataudes de acero"el U--612 se hundió en maniobras en el Báltico. No pudo emerger y perecieron todos sus tripulantes.
Men are standing and there is still two meters headroom in the sub 😅
Not really up to the standard of the 1981 Das Boot, though that would be asking a lot.
This is diffently an horror movie
Where is part 2 ?
..... " On February 29, 1944 the ' British Ministry of lnformation ' sent the following note to the higher British Clergy and to the BBC. ........Sir, l am directed by the Ministry to send you the following circular letter : It is often the duty of the good citizens and of the pious Christians to turn a blind eye on the peculiarities of those associated with us. But the time comes when such peculiarities, while still denied in public, must be taken into account when action by us is called for. We know the methods of rule employed by theBolshevik dictator in Russia itself from, for example, the writings and speaches of the Prime Minister himself during the last twenty years. We know how theRedArmy behaved in Poland in 1920 and in Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Galicia, and Bessarabia only recently. We must, therefore, take into account how theRedArmy will certainly behave when it overruns Central Europe. Unless precautions are taken, the obviously inevitable horrors which will result will throw an undue stain in public opinion in this country. We cannot reform theBolsheviks but we can do our best to save them - and ourselves - from the consequences of their acts. The disclosures of the quarter of a century will render mere denials unconvincing. The only alternative to denial is to distract public attention from the whole subject. Experience has shown that the best distraction in is ' Atrocity Propaganda ' directed against the enemy. Unfortunately the public is no longer so susceptible as in the days of the " Corps Factory ", the " Mutilated Belgian Babies " and the " Crucified Canadians ". Your cooperation is therefore earnestly sought to distract public attention from the doings of theRedArmy by your wholehearted support of various charges against the Germans and Japanese which have been and will be put into circulation by the Ministry. Your expression of belief in such may convince others. I am, Sir, Your obediant servant ( Signed ) H.HEWET, Assistant secretary. The Ministry can enter into no correspondence of any kind with regard to this communication which should only be disclosed to responsible persons. " - pages 209-210, ' Allied Wartime Diplomacy ' by Edward J. Rozek. ☠️☠️ ......ATROCITY PROPAGANDA - " Atrocity propaganda is how we won the war. And we're only really beginning with it now ! We will continue this atrocity propaganda, we will escalate it until nobody will accept even a good word from the Germans, until all the sympathy they may still have abroad will have been destroyed and they themselves will be so confused that they will no longer know what they are doing. Once that has been achieved, once they begin to run down their own country and their own people, not reluctantly but with eagerness to please the victors, only then will our victory be complete. IT WILL NEVER BE FINAL. Re-education needs careful tending, like an English lawn. Even one moment of negligence, and the weeds crop up again - those indestructible weeds of historical TRUTH. " - SeftonDalmer (1904-1979), former British Chief of ' Black Propaganda ': Said after the German surrender in 1945 in a conversation with the German Professor of lnternation Law Dr.FriedrichGrimm. ☠️☠️☠️........ " Thanks to the terrible power of our International Banks, we have forced the Christians into wars without number. Wars have a special value forJews, since Christians massacre each other and make more room for usJews. Wars are theJews' Harvest, The Jewbanks grow fat on Christian wars. Over 100-million Christians have been swept off the face of the earth by wars, and the end is not yet." - rabbiReichorn, speaking at funeral of Grand rabbiSimeon Ben-Judah, 1869.christiansfortruth.com/post-war-u-s-occupying-forces-believed-germany-justified-in-war-and-hitler-served-his-country-constructively

This isn't the classic TV series Das Boot of the 1980s.
Yeah right the sonar beams in on them that fast. Unrealistic to say the least.
This is the new version of Das Boot but for me wasn't as good as the original I remember it coming out as a series only a few years ago on sky.
41:52 why are they using the famous Das Boot track?
Because this is a British series called "Das Boot". I just translated it to "The Boat". so You Tube doesnt take it down ... The series is here..... cineb.rs/tv/watch-das-boot-free-36321
