  • You are awesome! As an AVID Book reader and retired English teacher, I love seeing old books being repurposed instead of being trashed or burned. These author's words have been saved digitally for a life time, and now can have another life with someone who may not have read their words. Just a bit of text can inspire someone to search for the full text and read it! Love your channel and your incredible creativity!

  • I don’t understand people getting upset about repurposing an old book for a journal. It is being used and useful in a beautiful manner. A pocket book like this is a wonderful gift! People read books online and on tablets these days, so old books are not being read as much. Repurpose! Thanks for sharing your lovely project! 🌸

    • Oh, I understand why! As someone who writes, every time I rip apart a book for reuse my heart breaks for the author! I know how they have poured their soul into their work. Every time start a new book I say a silent “I’m sorry” to the author! (BTW, Rumer Godden is a lovely writer. I’ve enjoyed her work over the years.)

    • @@r.j.fisher9958 but that book can be read online, on an iPhone, on an iPad, on a tablet. So the printed books are getting thrown away. I am just saying that I find it beautiful to make something pretty and reusable out of an old book versus having it end up in the dump. The written word is beautiful. Not disputing that. I agree.

    • I have to agree...I worked for a charity shop, and the number of books that were disposed of was so sad. Yes..there are readers of books left in the world, but to re-purpose 'unloved' books is wonderful. Imagine an 'out of date' book filled with beautiful goodies?...eg, ..a gardening book where you can put seed packets in the pockets = yes please :)

  • In my "not worth anything"opinion, I think giving a new purpose to a book that is going to be destroyed is such a beautiful thing. One is bringing joy, beauty, and happiness to someone by doing that. Not to mention making the book happy!😇 How tragic a book was never read! It must have felt so,so sad. Then Natasa came along and gave it a reason to live!. I really, really like this project. I will make it when I find the perfect book to rescue, have the time and make myself happy. Thank you for another excellent lesson😊.

I will reinforce where necessary as I have a special purpose for the book titled “Dear to This Heart”. I plan to insert photos and documentation / history for my favorite family vintage keepsakes to be passed on to my daughter so she knows why they are so dear to my heart. I hope I have enough pockets! Thanks for your inspiration! I love all of your videos. So easy to listen to your voice and your attention to details are so helpful. 💕

It’s a paperback, but my book formatter made a mistake in the spelling of my name on the spine and on another - a mistake inside, so I have two “oops” author’s copies! But, I once you pointed out the details of the books, and the type to use, I don't have such a problem. I love the way you were saying how you are going to give it some purpose and not just totally give up on it. 💕 There are other ways to make these albums, if folks really don't want to do that to a book. • Very neat idea. I loved the explanation at the beginning about how to find the right books. I thought all books were bound, but apparently I didn't know the meaning of the word until this video. :)

  • I am AMAZED at this idea! I LOVE books, but, once I read them, I am not the kind of person that is attached to an object, even if it gave me great happiness to read. I even have books that I loved and that I read twice. It has a value to me, but I am not going to read it a third time! So this is a GREAT idea to keep a book that I loved with a purpose now and that I can keep forever with an actual utility. I loved the video. 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏! Love from Portugal 💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙

  • I finally did it - slowly watched and made a pocket book along with you. I could not find a sewn-bound book! A great substitute was a spiral bound book. In the US we can find these in the recipe book section of Thrift stores. Church women's groups often put together recipe books as fund raisers. With the spiral binding each page is separate, none are fastened to each other. Worked really well for this.

  • So brilliant! I see so many books thrown in the bin so this is precious. I used a book that was square so some of the folds I couldn't figure out but I just kept folding and found some other neat solutions:) I am so impressed! This will help me with my junk journaling as well! Thank you!! Wonderful tutorial, I am over the moon!🌙

  • I did something I always do since I was a wee one in elementary. I moved along without waiting for instruction. 🤦🏻‍♀️ I didn't start ripping pages from the middle. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I should have known better as I was sent to sit in the hallway when I started that clock ahead of the rest of the class by putting the numbers before listening. What was worse was my bullies copied from me and were sent right along. LoL ack! Thankfully no bullies here and hopefully my book won't be too awful. Just a little pocket heavy in the rear. Maybe a sign of good things to come! 😊 Praise be. ✋❤

  • Hi Natasha, Made my first tiny pocket book journal. It is so much fun. This video is the greatest. Discovering exactly how each book is bound. Before that I never noticed that some books are without sewing. It has given me a total new approach to books. As I am not a big reader at all. Now I just love them for their Junk Journal uses. Next...a visit to the library for books and magazines.

  • People get upset about the silliest things. There are SO many legitimate reasons to be upset: neglected and abused children, starvation, violence, etc. Instead, we can appreciate the beauty and therapy this altered book lesson creates.

  • I am obsessed with books and think it is sacrilegious to throw them out or damage them, but this? I think it is wonderful to repurpose them into something that can be used for a gift or something to sell and given new life. I have literally thousands of books in my house just sitting there taking up room and i think making altered books out of them is a wonderful thing. It's sad that that one didn't even get read, but I'm sure plenty of the same book by the same author and title got read, but it isn't like the whole book was just wasted. Keep up the good work. You are making something beautiful out of a book that would otherwise just sit on a shelf doing nothing.

  • WOW. You really hit it out of the park with this one. My niece has a new interest in making altered journals after seeing some of the ones i have done, and now i know exactly what i will give her for Christmas. I think i will make a book of pockets like you did on your tutorial, and i will put twice the amount of pages. Then make all the pockets as you did. THEN flip the book over and starting with the back cover which flipped is now the front cover i will make all the pockets and embellish them to give her an idea on how to use her new found pockets. Thank you so so much for your wonderful creativity. I will also let my niece know that you are the one who had all these terrific ideas and give her your channel name. THANK YOU !!!!

  • That's a very creative and inspiring way to journal with so many interesting ideas. That kind of journal is a good way to keep small drawings/paintings, stickers, tickets, stamps and everything you to put in a place (sometimes things you haven't use them elsewhere) but at the same time to make something beautiful. 🥰👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼😉

  • I volunteer at a community resale shop. All the profits go to our local food bank. Many books are thrown in the recycling bin every day. Cookbooks are sold for a dime. No one wants these books. At least the junk journalling gives it a new life and appreciation. Things have changed and will continue to change. Eventually, there won't be any books. This is unforgivable. I've been collecting books for years with the idea of providing valuable information and culture for my family. I hope to teach them the importance of this resource so the books will be protected and used long after I'm gone. Enjoy junk journals. I do.
