Caught this on 'The Sunday Roast' back in 2011.
Featuring the late Billy Thorpe, this was the musical introduction to Nine's ARL coverage from 1995.
The song is an adaptation of the Bill Medley song from the movie 'The Last Boy Scout'.

I got the idea for this opener after watchin "The Last Boy Scout". I was the Senior Director of Sport for CH9.
Then you should belong in some sports hall of fame... besides, greetings from America, where your Friday Night Football intro is a Carbon Copy of OUR ESPN/ABC's NFL Monday Night Football! With the exceptions being Hank Williams Jr performing "All My Rowdy are here on a Monday Night!", the networks, the debut year (1989) and the sport (American Gridiron Football), nonetheless, this and ABC MNF had amazing intros for the time.
@@shaneharrisnj3484G'Day from Australia. Unfortunately you don't get awards for plagiarism. Thanks for the rap anyway.
@@geoffmorris189 I’m glad you did it Geoff. This theme is forever etched in my childhood. I loved nothing more on a Friday watching the footy and back in those days it wasn’t live because “Burke’s Backyard” was on at 7.30pm right after “Sale of the Century”. Watching this intro still gives me goosebumps. Brings back some great memories. L
What a stroke of genius Geoff. I remember seeing you name on many Nine productions. Very very nostalgic
@@Jamesandthegiantpeach76 Thanks for the rap
Probably the best intro for the Rugby League.
@@shaneharrisnj3484 was before the NRL was formed before the Super League war
There was also a version used from 1998 to 1999 with Jimmy Barnes and Billy Thorpe singing as a duet, used to be on KZhead a long time ago but the video has since been deleted.
i wish i was able to find that version! its probably my fav one!
brings back a lot of great memories
That is an excellent cover of the classic song.
This song made me a lifelong fan of Rugby League.
This honestly looks like something that would also air here in the U.S. That’s so awesome! 😂
after 0:29 you see for a nanosecond a camera view mounted on the head of his guitar, awesome!!
Thanks for the memories.
Amazing intro and brings back so many memories; grew up as an Eastern Suburbs supporter! 0:52 This lass givin' it her best. Hope she's doing well now, wherever she is :)
Oh yeah she does very slinky moves sexy moves in this video one , Total sex bomb
Why as a kid did i think this song went harder then it did
the last boy scout version is really good too
This cover is just as Amazing as the original!
Imagine if that was used for afl back when it was on nine
hey hey, member the 90's?
There was another version where they slipped in a Kiwi haka for the 3 weeks that the Friday Night games were Australia v New Zealand Test matches.
lol 0:39 two players bump and you hear a totally fake studio engineered "crash" sound XD
Is this a jingle?
Heeey!! This is rugby
Adam Folta Australian Rugby League, which is these days NRL National Rugby League.
@@russellpritchard4222 yup, in Australia, there are 4 football games! American Gridiron Football, Rugby, English Association Football (Soccer) and Aussie Rules Footy.
Where is Billy cole at?
"get the ball to billy cole". "aint life a bitch?"... ...boom!
An ABC NFL Monday Night Football Ripoff... with a great song from a 1991 Joel Silver Classic!
They should get AC⚡️DC Ato do a cover on this ..I think it would be awsome..who agrees?
1995 using clips from 1994
That was always a common tactic in sports intros... previous season's footage and older Hollywood sound effects from "The Hollywood Edge" collection. Common in NASCAR back in the 2000s, especially with Fox/FX and TNT/NBC in 2001-06... (plus 2007-14 with TNT...)
Cheesy as hell.
If you watch the NFL Thursday and Friday night football intros it was pretty much the same and i think thats where they get it from!
if it were any cheesier, you'd be tasting swiss cheese just from hearing this.
The 90s were cheesy man
@@scarefaceR18 Here in America, TNF is not even close to this and there's no such thing as a NFL Friday Night Football. This is the equivalent of the mid 90s ABC'S Monday Night Football intro with Hank Williams Jr, which is just as famous as this intro for NRL Rugby from Australia.
