"When Out On The Street There Arose Such A Clatter" NYSW Utica NY

Switching FX Matt Brewery, Utica NY, off NYS&W's Schuyler Street trackage, Feb 6, 2024.Matt's brews Utica Club, Saranac Ale and soft drinks. Exceptionally mild winter. No snow. Feels like spring. Maple sap is already being tapped for production of maple syrup. Video also features appearances by NYS&W Conductor Ethan and my trusty canine companion, Witold.

  • Thanks for sharing another adventure at Door 18 of the brewery. On this video I noticed how close the vertical clearances are besides those on the sides. Watch out for any new low hanging lights or equipment! Cheers from Wisconsin and "Hi" to Witold! Our Chihuahua Peanut is on my lap as I type this.

    • This is a great prototype example that model railroaders can use that is 100% plausible. Modellers can also use this as a way to disguise the fact that the cars could be going into a hidden track or yard just beyond the interior of the loading/unloading bay.

    • @@railroadingrambler218 You probably know this but "December 5th, 1933, will forever be marked as the day prohibition was repealed. West End Brewing Co. was the first brewery in the country to have a license, and the first to legally sell beer. There was a big parade that started at the brewery and ended at the Hotel Utica where people enjoyed pints of the first legal beer to be poured in the country, Utica Club."

      @andyknott8148@andyknott81483 ай бұрын
    • Yes, I recall reading about that but forgot some of the details; thanks for posting that info. My great grandfather was a saloon keeper in West Utica who operated his business both before and during Prohibition; he was arrested by the Feds but managed to post a very high bail within hours. He was not only selling booze when it was illegal to do so but his offerings contained just a wee bit of wood alcohol, lol. I only found out about this long after my paternal grandfather, son of my bootlegging great grandfather, and my father passed away.

GBRX is Greenbrier Leasing and GPLX is GATX Inc and they usually use those cars to haul plastic pellets. Too bad you can't see the former CNW yellow or WC cream with red lettering and herald carrying malt as they have been repainted. Glad to see Witold moving under his own power

    • @@kentpitman5649 thanks for the input sadly the Froedtert malt plant here in West Milwaukee got demolished last year and that was the biggest rail customer in Milwaukee usually about 30 to 40 cars a day in and out combined. Also Anheuser-Busch sold off the Manitowoc WI plant maybe 10 years ago and sounds like they're down to a plant in Idaho. The Manitowoc facility is now just a grain storage facility
