  • A great selection here! Remains of the Day pulled me out of a years-long reading slump and reminded me what an impressive novel can do. It will always have a special place in my heart too!

  • Omg I’ve been meaning to make a video like this for so long!! But like you said at the start, THE PRESSURE! 😅 I’m so glad you managed to push through and make it anyway, there’s nothing better than hearing people gush about the books they love! I’ve only read a few on your list, but they were all ones I enjoyed, and I totally agree about The Girl Who Fell Beneath the Sea!

  • Stumbled upon this video and I'm so glad i did! We share a few favorites so I have added some of the others you mentioned here on my tbr, thank you for sharing :) I alway struggle picking out favorites because there are so many brilliant books, but some of them are Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, The perks of being a wallflower by Stephen Chbosky, The little prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupery, Ragged Company by Richard Wagamese, And every morning the day gets longer and longer by Fredrik Backman, The long way to a small, angy planet by Becky Chambers, A monster calls by Patrick Ness and Foster by Claire Keegan. Oh, also, Wendy Cope is my favorite poet so basically anything by her is also on the list but Serious Concerns takes the win I think.

    • Thank you so much for sharing your list! Ah I've read and loved so many of yours (except Frankenstein and Ragged Company, but they're on my tbr now). I love love The Little Prince, Becky Chambers and Claire Keegan (I totally agree with you - Foster is my favourite of hers too). I've heard so much about Wendy Cope - definitely checking her out soon!

  • How do you find the time to read some many books, I can read maybe 2 per month. Currently Nicola Vath: The Rule of Three. This story in the Vampire family is so different than other "Vampire books"

  • Very enjoyable video, thank you so much. To Sleep in a Sea of Stars by Christopher Paolini was my train ride escapism go to. Science fiction with a kick ass female lead character, awesome book. You might enjoy In Search of Lost Time by Marcel Proust if you like really getting inside a character's life (aka stoner). It's got a pretty fearsome page count but I found it transcendent and beautiful. Thanks again.

  • "a shockingly beautiful portrayal of an unremarkable life" is a fantastic way of describing the book "Stoner". After all most people will not be remembered past their grandchildren or Great grandchildren's deaths; after that it will be as if they had never lived. Depressing. A very good book, though. Reminded me a bit of "The Death of Ivan Ilyich".

  • Stoner is also one of my favorite books!!! You hit some of my book buzzwords with "small joys of everyday life" and meditation on a meaningful life. 🤍 Have you read Rilke's Letters to a Young Poet? If not, I'm pretty certain you'd love it. I recommend the Joan M. Burnham translation.
