School of Saberfighting is one of the first teams in the world that specialises in public performance of duels inspired by Star Wars, and also provides training for those who wish to learn this form of stage fencing.
Many of our trainees have won the highest stage fencing athletic titles in various Russian championships, and acted in fencing combat scenes in theatre and films. They also collaborated with a Combat Choreographer from Hollywood, and performed during the World Fencing Championship 2015.

  • I myself love swordsmanship. Japanese, European, they are both in my opinion to the greatest Styles out there. Lightsaber fighting when I first saw Star Wars A New Hope as well as the additional series, I will admit is a very interesting fighting style, however I still think I can take on any of you guys have my own skills as a Swordsman.

    • Lots of it is choreography and practising it, there's a little bit of intricacy in it but compared to European or Japanese swordsmanship it fails most times

  • Hmm. A lot of awkward spare arm movements. I am pretty sure a lot of the duels are double-handed, so you dont have a spare arm doing nothing hanging around awkwardly or having to hold your chest like practicing pole skills In Martial Arts. Its been a long time since I have watched the Prequels, but I am sure Lucas' Ideology was that they were like Japanese samurai who always had two hands on their weapon and would only take them of every now and then and not for extended periods of time during the dueling, maybe standing around with the lightsaber drawn, but not usually during the duel

  • useless spin attack, useless spin attack, useless... well you get the drift. Nice work for the learning the choreography, but if the attacker need to postpone an attack for you to make a ''pirouette'' then something is amiss.

    • @xxBEASTITxx The point isn't that the OP can perform the choreography better, the point is that the choreography is overly flashy.

  • Yeaaaaahhhh... see, that's choreographed. There are no 'reflexes' involved, when it's all scripted. Now if it were a real spar with dueling rigs like these guys: kzhead.info/sun/mNGrg7qfgZGuaIE/bejne.html - (and they get into some intense spars/duels, without choreography) I'd be inclined to agree. However... this is clickbait. On the other hand, the choreography is beautiful. Though as some other commenters have pointed out... Good choreography shouldn't have attackers or defenders 'waiting' or pausing for their next beat or part in the fight. Unless it is a dramatic pause or beat but then they aren't fighting. There are several gaps, though very small, where this is seen. - Not talking about parts where they are out of range, or in the case of the offense, put in each other's way.
