This is the story of Albert Göring, the younger brother of Hitler's right-hand man, Hermann, who worked tirelessly to right his brother's wrongs.
How can he fight against the shadow of the most dangerous dictator in our history?

  • Great documentary though the narration has some very odd pronunciation . However it was not just the US flying over Germany later in the war as mentioned here - whilst they bombed by day - it might be argued the more dangerous part - the British continued bombing by night. Unfortunately there is an increasing tendency in many war documentaries to completely ignore, or not refer at all, to the continued fighting by the British forces. This was something that incensed my late uncle. He took part in D day, as a Royal Naval sailor. He often recounted how ‘ we had to go in and pull the Yanks off the beach after they landed on the wrong one and it was b…y dangerous - but you never hear anyone mention that now’. The British fought for 6 years - mainly alone especially in the early days - and didn’t just stop once the US came into the war. Having said that there is no doubt that US support helped turn the tide, and there are many groups here in the UK that have dedicated war monuments to US service personnel, and hold remembrance services for them annually. For example the South West Airfields Heritage Trust remembers the US personnel at Uppottery ( featured in the tv series and book Band of Brothers) and Dunkeswell, just as there is a beautiful part of a cemetery at Newbury in Berkshire that commemorates Canadian soldiers buried there, and again an annual service of remembrance is held there too. It should also be remembered that the US charged the UK for lend lease and for decades the British have being having to repay that. (Nor can British citizens even apply for a Green card - something most USA folks find hard to believe!) Nevertheless this is a fascinating documentary about a kaleidoscope of a man. Well done to all concerned.

That is why his baton is so big and different from field marshals. This baton can be seen at the US Military Academy at West Point.

Once Germany won the Battle of France, he got carried away. Strategically he did not focus on the secret development of the jet engine or the Atomic Bomb. Germany initially led in nuclear science. Also, no exit strategy to Argentina or Spain. Should have kept Italy extralegal as a back up.

  • Truly captivating narration and indeed a very rare collection of footage. It is a fascinating and equally tragic story of a war hero turning into a criminal. While this video emphasises that he was second in power to Hitler, but in reality, it was Himmler who was the real second in command(I might be wrong). Nazi party slowly ascended the power ladder in Germany, and with passing time, they became more of a gang of criminals than a group of ultra nationalists. The night of long knives is one of darkest chapter of Nazi era. Tyranny of majority is something against which all citizens must maintain vigil because it will eventually give way to a certain dictatorship. Looking forward to more such quality content from this channel.
