Gordon van der Spuy is a South African actor and author of the highly acclaimed book “The Feather Mechanic“ www.thefeathermechanic.com
His approach to fly-tying is refreshing in that he believes in the concept of tying purpose driven flies as opposed to just being a disciple of the pattern. His mantra is “Form follows function”: figure out what you need the fly to do and then tie it to do that.
In this presentation, “The Feather Mechanic - a fly tying philosophy”, he explores the concept of tying flies logically as opposed to just following recipes without question.

April, when you're in 'slide show' mode in Windows (the 'blue' rectangular button). The trick is. To right-click the screen. And select 'pause'. Then the slide show won't continuously change to the next slide. You then just use the arrow keys. To navigate. Back and forth (or as you say, to get back to the file explorer view with all the image files, hit your escape key). To get out of slideshow mode.

I always liked to think. Of the Apollo mission idea. In design of flies. Most people. Think about flies. As something that needs. To fish 'on' the water. Or 'in' it. However. On a lot of these streams. The fish have already made. The decision to commit to the presentation. Or not. Based on how it comes into 'the atmosphere'. As it settles down gently. Or not. In order to touch the surface. A lot of the time. This is a far more important design characteristic. Than anything else. Color or shape. Could be trivial. If the orbit and 're-entry'. Doesn't work. In the way it should. That's where the work and creativity goes in. With those types. In Houston mission control. Who are looking at their screens. And trying to figure. All of this out. Even before. It happens.
