I’ve always felt like Viv uses swearing as a guide into how composed a character is. So because Alastor never loses his cool he never swears, but a character like Blitzø that’s a hot mess swears the most out of the whole HB cast

Why is no one talking about the drawing he did of the hotel during the ad? I like that he wrote "haha I named it" and pointed to his tower where he had all it equipment, saying "best part". I know he had fun with the ad, but that drawing is stupidly dorky and I love it.

its a really cool detail, and you notice how he often moves around with a shadow of himself? i almost wonder if the alastor we see is not entirely the real alastor, but a projection of the real him, which is why cameras dont pick him up very well.

Alastor saying “that’s the tea” in his song tells me that he knows and understands a few pop culture phrases, he just rarely uses them to mess around with the people around him like an old grandpa

I liked how in the song, he let Vox set the initial pace and kept up with him, and when Vox blew his fuse and went off the air, Alastair immediately switched to a very slow methodical speed for his final lines.

Well according to show, Vaggie and comics. When Alastor first showed up in hell he made a name for himself by building power fast, mainly by taking down other overlords. Then he slowed down and went under/hide or a vacation for the last 7 years. Clearly as one of the former big shots (and possibly one of the youngest overlords of the time) he was hoping for a bigger reception, especially after how Zestial welcomed him back.
Ego is a helluva of a drug
I like how even though Alastor literally smiles every time he’s on screen and 24/7, we can still tell how he’s feeling in certain situation. When he was with the egg dude’s, bro was oblivious losing his patience with them but still kept them around bc they’re useful, when Carmila said “not really” u can tell bro was emotionally damaged, he looked a little bit nervous when he said “nothing serious”, he was pissed that Pentious ripped his coat, and when Charlie said the commercial was a little off, he looked kind of irritated. So in a way bro is expressive but still keeps the same face at the same expression at the same time.
This is what I like about him unlike the other characters. He keeps his cool and never drops his smile
Also the radio sounds around him! That’s another reason why I love him he is so expressive and mystery in the same time!
W animators, im not a pro and am js an aspiring artist/animstor and man expressions are hard to draw. To draw those expressions with a smile plastered onto it is sooo difficult, props to them
One thing I love about Alastor’s character is that the writers made him really resemble the psychopath he is Generally speaking, the media thinks psychopath = violent serial killer- yet that’s just the tip of the iceberg Psychologically speaking, people with psychopathic traits tend to do things for their own benefit, feel little to no empathy for others, and are *masters* at manipulation and appearing as normal-looking as possible Alastor displays ALL of these traits- he’s more than just a crazy killer, he’s someone who genuinely lacks empathy and is the true definition of a psychopath I love it

@@phastinemoon I mean, Alastors terror is so powerful because of his myseriousness, the vagueness of his powers. He is able to broadcast his terror via radio, but only radio. Now imagine: you are a low-level demon or sinner, hearing from a radio box the terrifying voices of former powerful overlords being slaughtered, mutilated and ripped to shreds. The gore may not be seen, but the sounds are there and what follows with the absence of vision? Uncertainty, replaced by fear. You are like a child in the dark, hiding under your covers frm the darkness, already terryfied when you suddenly hear a sound. It could be a brom falling down or a creaking door, but in the absence of the visual confirmation your mind goes wild and produces visions of absolute horror. you suddenly see demons in every corner, clawing at your cover and trying to get with there boney claws at your face, your eyes. This is the exact same thing that empowers Alastor even more and why he is (IMO) even more powerful than Vox. He uses the mind of his listeners against them, lets their imagination run wild and only increasing his power. Alastor may already be a powerful Overlord, but his methods make him even more powerful.
Carmilla just did what Alastor loves to do to his opponents, interacting with him him entirely as if he's not important at all in her eyes, dude's been gone for 7 years and is a sadistic, murderous, cannibal who loves to kill whoever gets in his way and torture them too and one of the most powerful and feared Overlord, and she talked down to him as if he was her lowest secretary coming back from his little vacation. And he knows it because that's exactly what he did with Vox and Sir Pentious but him getting that treatment really bothers him as much as it bothered them too. XD He'll probably get back at her later for it in the series.
He’s definitely getting revenge for that treatment, him knowing what Carmilla did to the exorcist is no good thing for her

I can’t confirm how cannon the info is, but I’ve read that Alastor sees negative emotion as weak and that’s why he always smiles, to show dominance over his adversaries, which is low key horrifying.
So if he loses his smile it's means he's feeling weak, that'd be really cool if it end up happening and he loses (or get very close to losing) to someone way more powerful than him.

I love Alastor's subtle, and not-so-subtle emotional cues, they're really fun and interesting, especially his unspoken respect(?) and understanding of Zestial as a higher up demon, while keeping his composure in tact, and playing it off as merely more entertainment to please the audience. Pretty cool interaction.
Honestly, the way that Alastor keeps talking about him being gone makes me suspect that he was doing shit he probably wasn't supposed to be doing. I'm also really happy that we finally got to see a glimpse of his more demonic form, could not be more excited to see his story develop
He was probably doing stuff in the mortal world. If he'd been in other rings of hell people still would've known, but people say he was gone from Hell entirely. As for what he was doing in the mortal world we'll likely know later, but since powerful demons are able to return to the mortal world it's possible he was making deals for more people's souls.

It's something Lucifer imposed on them because him being an archangel in Hell means he gets to change its very nature on a whim and something he could presumably change for everyone or for individuals at his discretion. Spoilers: Though that would seem to contradict Lucifer apparently having never met Alastor when he's introduced.

That has been confirmed by the creator to be when he’s actually just speaking his mind, pure surprise usually.
Honestly, I hope we see more of Zestial. He seems to be friends with Alastor, and I love the way he talks. Plus the fact he's voiced by the same guy who voices Vortex and Asmodeus from Helluva Boss (James Monroe Iglehart).
And like that you can tell he died centuries ago because he uses old English when he talks.

My only real gripes about the new version of alistor is they kind of remove his slow creepy moments, sure they kind of throw them in there, but they're kind of bouncy and rushed with the exception of the end of his song
I think they are saving that for when they need him to be super imitating, to let the audience know when things are gettin serious.

Personally, my biggest issue is how they keep alluding to how “powerful” he is. Helluva Boss already introduced us to princes and sins, which are leagues more powerful than him. It’s hard to take him seriously knowing the overlords are basically mid-tier at best. For perspective, overlords are like all-star high school basketball players, the princes are NCAA all-stars, and the sins are NBA all-time leaders.
There's nothing saying there aren't more demons more powerful than the prince's and sins, we'll just have to see @bsgfan1
@@bsgfan1That's why I find it fun. None of them would hesitate to kill for the fun of it. Alastor is mostly exciting. The real fear comes from imagery and worrying for the lives of our protagonist. All the powerful Hellbourne are kept separate from the Sinners in general. The entirety of Hazbin is explicitly in the Pride Ring, where the Sinners are kept. Alastor makes me happy. I felt true fear with that disgusting POS Val. And now we know that there's really nothing any of our protagonists can do about. The pain is real and never-ending. Fear comes from the horrible situations our characters are in. And in Helluva, it looks like the Sins can't roam freely through each other's territory. I take solace in know that Asmodeus would beat the sh*t out of Val if he knew about him and he wandered into Lust Ring.

I think it's supposed to add a bit of a sassy element. I like to write and occasionally act out certain moments to get the feelings down for a scene, I've discovered that during moments like deal making where a character says "your choice", when the tone's a little "fruity" it's both more enticing and more goading since it lessens the feeling of threatening or force; basically it's more welcoming, but also adds in some power dynamics since one wouldn't say it like that unless they were confident it'd go their way, so there's a subtle, for lack of a better term, "superiority" at play. Is it that deep? Probably not I just felt like going on a spiel

Pretty much love that for his constant smiling, you can tell what he's feeling by looking at his eyes. He was beyond annoyed at the eggs, then when zestial appeared he was startled and when the eggs were asking to fight zestial, he really was like "shut up before I kill you". And of course my favorite is the heartbreak and annoyance when Camile tells him she wasn't wondering where he's been. Remember fellas, don't let the smile distract you, always look at his eyes. 😂😂

I noted that as well! its an interesting coincidence, i really wonder what went down 7 years ago.... Especially between vox and alastor. The way vox acts, i honestly think alastor *did* effectively beat him, but either alastor got blind-sided by something or vox did something desperate to escape. I feel like they completely missed the fine details that made alastors character so good. I feel like he wasn't meant to be bombastic and quirky and loudmouthed as he is now. When Viz made his character, I think she did a good job. He was ominous, passive aggressively condescending where now he's just aggressively condescending, making too many facial expressions, explosive, there's not as much emphasis on his old-timey demeanor. It's simple things like in the pilot him calling it a "picture show". Making warnings and demented remarks. He doesn't do that in the newer episodes. He's just forthrightly aggressive and uses his powers too openly. It doesn't make you feel like he has "hidden strength" that you're waiting in suspense to see the true demonic nature of. He insults people, he's way too expressive in his tones and what he says when I feel like he was always meant to be reserved and was neat and tidy, only saying what he needed to say. I don't know I guess it just feels like now he talks too much, shows too much, does too much. He's over the top when I think when Viz made him not to be that way in the pilot. Plus when he does make a "scary face" or uses his "demonic powers" or has one of his famous witty evil one liners where his voice goes static, it feels like it's spunky, cartoonish, and high energy versus in the pilot where it was grim, well-timed, not overused, and very disturbing. I think they did a good job at the end of "stayed gone". That felt more like the closest thing we got to the pilots "Alastor moments"... To sum it all up let me put it this way. In the pilot it feels like alastor was a foreign danger. Something we couldn't comprehend fully other than the things he wanted to show us. He was witty and more than anything disturbing and deranged, it felt like a stark contrast to the other characters. Now he just feels like he's a copy and paste of the other characters and the jokes they make and things they do. Alastor was a true demon, now he's just a silly dude with ADHD.
