After a little over two months the Dora Lynn is finished! I bought this sinking boat to use as my crab stand. It has taken a ton of work to get it to this point, but it's finally done! I had to sand, paint, and build a bunch of stuff on it. It's time to place it in it's permanent spot on my crabbing stand lot.

  • $250k for a new building or $700 for the Dora Lynn. Another $5,000 for lumber and paint another $800 for transport to the lot. $2,000 for the crane. All in for less than $10k. The most unique crab buying experience Maryland has to offer. PRICELESS.

  • Hey Luke. Wanted to save you some trouble later. Dig a trench from the little creek all the way back to the boat so that it pitches down towards the creek. Deep enough so that any water will run from under the boat to the creek. Get a "French Drain Pipe. A PVC pipe with lots of holes and a fabric sock over it. Bury that along the length of the boat and add a "T" fitting at the trench. Run solid pipe from the "T" down to the creek. Water from under the boat wont sit and ROT the bottom again. Looks stellar. Good lick buddy!

I don’t have a clue about crabbing or the east coast, but I saw your ingenuity in fixing things, and your hard work ethic. You remind me of days past when men like my father and my son used what they had to make things work. Nobody sees much of that anymore. I am a fan and hopefully will visit the new crab stand someday soon. Prayers for continued success in everything that you and Lindsey encounter!!

  • All you need for that roof is a 5 gal bucket of elastomeric sealant. Make it white so it reflects heat during the summer. If you want to be really industrious, once you seal the roof, get metal rails and buy a bunch of solar panels from Harbor Freight so that you save money on electricity to keep the crab cooler running. Also, you need to patch up those holes on the bottom or you will get rats and other vermin under your floor boards.

My parents decided to strip the paint before adding yet another layer of paint. Only to find knot less golden oak under all that paint. They chemically stripped it (to get the paint out of the grain) and polyurethaned the wood instead.

But then again as it is no longer a boat its probably fine. Its a GREAT crab shack! I love your mates caulking hammer. The caulking cotton is supposed to get wet. It then swells up therefore taking up in the seam. Its the cotton that keeps out the water, the compound makes it look preety! Cheers and G'day from Tasmania!

  • For those unusual cuts, get some card board and cut that until it fits, you can tape together multiple pieces til you have something that fits perfect. Then you transfer that to wood and make your cut. It will save you time, material, and most of all $$$

  • My grandfather was a lobster fisherman in Nova Scotia 🇨🇦 many many years ago. He did something similar to what your doing, but when he cut into bottom of the boat for drainage, he added wire mesh over the holes to keep the critters 🐀 from moving in.

  • use a string under tension from a nail where you want the floor panels to lie level and once you find that level snap the string from the nail amidships. then set your saw corect angle to the frame as perpendicularto the deck of the saw . turn saw side ways and follow the shadow of your string line. its automacally straight.

    • It’s automatically straight. Yes, but he’s working on a boat that’s curved in two planes.

  • Don't forget wood swells when wet . If you're deck is too tight it will push on the hull. If fiberglass it will crack leaving leaks !

The term "old soul" gets thrown around alot by people who crave attention of some sort, but the term actually fits you to a T. You think, work, and speak like every cool older dude i have ever worked with. Need some sunglasses because your future is bright as hell💪🏼🤙🏼 as a not crabber i know exactly what im talking about lol
