MANY years ago, my dad was attempting to get rid of a flat rock about 3' thick by 12 to 15 feet across, on our homestead in Alaska. He was using a Cat RD18, WWII surplus dozer. He had shoved it about 100' to the edge of a ravine and was juuuuust about to the point of no return when my mother came out of the cabin waving her arms and yelling, "STOP!!" I know he couldn't hear her but he saw the movement in the corner of his eye and knew better than to ignore it. He was thinking, "Damn! I was THAT close!" It took him at least twice as long to get it back where she wanted it (for a picnic table) since it was right on the edge and he couldn't get around it. It was so heavy that all he could do with it was nudge it from the corners. There was just too much weight for that old Cat to shove straight away. The Cat was a cable blade machine with a gas powered pony engine, no hydraulics, and an open deck. There was no roll cage, no cab at all, and the exhaust stack was about 4' in front of the operator. Getting it started on the homestead, at 30 below zero was most definitely a challenge. It became one of those family stories (from 1954) that we all got many laughs out of, but he was so frustrated at the time! ;^)

He didn't check out any of the dump trucks only the fuel in my service truck. He pulled up, got out, run that clear tube down in the tank to sample the fuel, waved and got back in his car and left. I didn't even get off the trackhoe I just kept working. That mail lady was real smart eating with her gloves on. Jees! 🤦♂️ Stay well. -Wil 👍

Watching your machine eating into those rocks - It really does highlight the power and build quality of the machines. Awesome engineering! 😀
I can't seem to get enough of you dropping big rocks on big rocks! Reminds me of taking a hammer and a chisel out to the old walls of the long-forgotten barn on my family's property when I was a Youngster. Love your videos and have for a while. I tell my family about them often.
Chris, at least on this job you don’t have to worry about finding your mats sunk down in the mud
Thanks for including some rock dropping , it’s all good stuff Chris . 😄🇬🇧
Entertainment at it's best... Dropping big rocks on other big rocks... to make smaller "big" rocks ... even had a mini heart attack when lifting that HUGE slab and seeing the tracks slip and dip a little... good thing Chris has nerves of steel. I would have been holding on like a vise. This has been a great series...Thanks again Chris.
Chris i just want to say Thanks for all you do with these vidios and all. Keep up the great work!
The in-cab footage looked more like you were riding a motocross bike than a 220! Thanks for all the videos as always!
Imagine the irony if this job was for a Chiropractors Office 😆
Or a Massage Parlor...
So fascinating! Thanks for another great video, giant boulders, mail carriers, and police! Stay well everyone.
I Smile every time you drop a rock and Miss :) ROCK ON !!!!!! Salute.
Did you bother Karen at 630am? Good thing Justin wasn't running with y'all this time 😂
She walked out and her nuts got cold and she was pissed
Hahaha! The mail lady with the gloves...right!? Just wash your hands, people! Spot on, Chris!
Great progress on the site this week - well done to all!
I always enjoy your videos so very calming for some reason
WOW, that last one is about the size of the cab your in. Crazy amount of rock you have dealt with this week. Definitely a back breaker.
The Volvosaurus will probably need new teeth soon.
Yeah
Already in the bid, from a previous video.
@@bearpump Jeupp.

I was so thinking Fred Flintstone
I like the way you ease those rocks into the trucks. I've seen some people drop them in from 10' or higher.
Loved the big rock at the end
Arh my daily dose of chill out with Letsdig18, awesome. I can totally zone out and forget all the things annoying me. Unlike movies or TV you cant predict what’s coming next, with every scoop the plot changes lol. I love watching the rocks drop and break, please do a bit more Chris 😊
When you were recording from outside, all I could think was your machine looked like a T-Rex playing with his food!
Amazing how brittle yet heavy that sandstone is!
Work is so satisfying I can sit and watch Chris as long as he posts these videos!
Why is this so addictive to watch?
Well which reason do you want: so many to choose from but #1 reason is DAAAAAAAMMM HE'S GOOD AT IT. That's one reason. LMAO
Go tag the cop car with a dirt perfect sticker 🤣
What amazes me is how Officer Hoover gets around so much between No. Carolina and Indiana. He must subscribe to both of them to time his inspections.
😂😂
Jpaydirt sticker would look good beside Dirt Perfect sticker lol.
that AMI bucket and thumb earning their keep. AMI could use this job as a testament to durability of that model bucket and thumb. taking care of the dump trucks not beating them all to hell is quality of a competent operator. getting there slowly but surely, keep up the good work Chris
The AMI pieces are on Chris's personal 220, this is the company one. Easy way to tell them apart is to look at the thumb, The AMI Chris has uses a progressive linkage not a direct cylinder connection.
@@Blazer02LS yep you are rite. mixed up which machine Chris had on this job
@@harveylong5878 Yeah, it's easy to do, think he needs to add a new logo sticker in the cab and outside on his machines.
How can so many folks NOT LIKE these videos... I LUV watching WORK! 🤣
Careful. Don't bite your tongue 😜 hitting those BIG ROCKS ! 😁🤣✌🇺🇲
That has got to be a very expensive place to build. With all your work and others. Then foundations, plumbing, building good grief its a money pit. You do fabulous work.
You think that is expensive people build houses on the side of mountains all the time, and they KNOW the rock is there.
If it ain’t mud it’s rock!! Still pays the bills.
I did enjoy watching you work. I'm glad you filmed that last rock; it was a doozy.
The agent who sold this lot must be really good.
More like whoever decided to dig the whole place out was an idiot. They could have put ramps up or something. IIRC it was only like 4 ft up - It probably would have been better to shave off a foot and use that to fill in the edges.
@@simonsimon557 nope :D But I live in a hilly region - There are plenty of places around here with retaining walls at the edges - the Walmart has a twenty foot tall wall on one side because they had to level the area. Others have walls where it was built up at the lower ends of the property.
@@moseszero3281 Near all the properties in my hometown have this cus it's on a mountain side
Could be that one of the neighbours complained and "LEO" showed up just to keep them happy.
I work in NC at a rental store. I got stopped by one of the most reasonable DMW officers I have ever encountered. He weighed my truck(Overweight by 2450), informed me I needed a DOT nmbr on my truck and then he started writing. He let me drive back to the rental yard so I could unload and where he could finish up the paper work.
“What do I know, I just dig the dirt here” 😂😂👌
Chris of Letsdig18, is a "Bronto Crane Operator" at Slate Rock and Gravel Company.... Yabba-Dabba-DOoOOo!
Hard to dig, but very satisfying to watch, thank you for taking us along.
Nothing but serious rock on this job from the beginning
I have enjoyed watching you move Boulders, Chris.
Another day at the Rock Quarry..😎. Your Volvosaurus is working well I see....🤣. Hope the Hot Tubs already warmed up. 👍
Yes it was very enjoyable, that big flat rock was insane.
It became one of those family stories (from 1954) that we all got many laughs out of, but he was so frustrated at the time! ;^)
I was on a job site directly beside a road like you are here one time and I was running a trackhoe taking out a concrete building pad and had dump trucks hauling it away. A DMV officer pulled up on the job and checked the fuel in the service truck I was driving to make sure I wasn't running offroad diesel in it. -Wil 👍
Blimey now that was a rock and a half 😂😂. 👍👍👍
First! huge fan keep up the great work and stay safe! God bless!🇺🇸
i think if you have a place to store some of these big rocks, you could sell them as landscape boulders and make some good money from them.
Must be limestone. Love watching you bust those rocks!!
Ha, ha, Chris playing ‘conkers’ with rocks... maybe a dozer with a ripper would have been more efficient, depending on quantity ... love the way he ‘places’ the rocks into the truck, not to damage the bed.... 🇷🇴🇬🇧👍🏻🤣
Playing in that rock is like smoking cigarettes for your machine, every 1 takes an hour off its life...
This job site probably makes you yearn for a nice pond dredging job!!!
thats the best ground I have seen on your channel. That stuff is like gold!
I can't believe I sat here and watched this video but more than that I can't believe I found it so interesting. This was enjoyable.
Chris,an interesting day with the trooper and female mail carrier, free entertainment.
Lol.thats true🤣🤣😄
Nothing like some shake rattling and rolling it looks like it's going to be a bumpy ride LOL :-) :-)
More monster rocks. Thanks for sharing. Kevin
The mail lady's gloves and sandwiches. LOL!
i don't think people realize how much you get beat up in the excavator

They have a lot better seats now, but I'm still sure it hurts!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@@rhacker3058 I got you there. My 60 years feel like 80, after so many years in trucks and scrapers.
Why the heck did they want to build there. Like digging out Mt Rushmore 🤪
He covered it in one of the other videos. Most of the land in that area has been bought so you have to make due with what you can get. The housing you can see had the same problems.
I got a new NIC name for Chris Fred Flintstone
Thank you Chris this veterinary site is so fascinating to me when I was much younger than you I worked on a site very similar to this one you working with all the rock I was the guy on the hammer trying to break rock to the size to haul away but you have to remember we had and still have much smaller truck's than you have or ever had but all the same this site your working fascinates me no end and thanks for the great video, p/s we still have very few machines with a thumb on them in the UK so we can't do alot of the type of work you do with any of your 360° Volvos.
I remember when I was restocking and servicing ambulances, we, of course would wear gloves ... we also sanitized our hands and put CLEAN gloves on to eat lunch.
That poor thumb will have one hell of a blister when this job is finished 😂
It is *definitely* hammer time.

Another great video Chris I can’t wait till they get the jackhammer back in there so you can get some videos of them busting up those big boulders but anyway brother you and John and yawls family stay safe and keep the videos coming man
You should offer to put one of these boulders into the trunk of Officer Hoovers car. Or better yet deliver a load of those big guys to his house
please don,t exceed the axle loadings when you do :)
You certainly put a rocking good show this week. 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👍👍👍👍
Ole girl is taking a beating with this one
You're making everyone else's job easier . Got to wonder if they forgot to charge that boulder for a shot or if it was a dud.
Postal service is not hiring the sharpest of people that's for sure
I love seeing big machines pick up boulders like a grape and just tossing them off to a pile.
Wow that work is hard on the operator and the equipment.
27:10 look like they had some charges that were duds judging by the drill hole that was intact
i had the same thoughts .
Possibly a lost hole. (Got covered over by dirt, couldn't find it later to load it.)
Chris, you need " The Let's Dig 18 Ripper " Attachment !
Why
That's got to be hell on the equipment
