I have a 99 vw new beetle and I'm looking for steel rims it has 16's on now.can I go 15's and a tall tire for a smoother ride and run the tier and rim out to the fenders I am planning a cross country road trip next summer so I don't no nothing about tiers thanks Fred.
We need more back to the basics videos like this. People spend way to much time watching videos of wrecked supercars being rebuilt and wouldn't know the first thing about putting the correct wheel and tire package on the car they own.
The most informative video on rims/tires I have ever seen.
agree
I totally agree, great job.
All I know about tire/wheel upgrades I learned in high school from Tyga... "too much rim make the ride too hard"
This needs to be a pinned post in every single Facebook group.
Along with "what kinda oil."
Except he got pcd wrong
Did me, I posted this like 2 days ago 💀

Ugh, more videos need to be this simple in explanation. Really great job! Also that ending was a hilarious and welcome addition.
You side by side by side comparisons made this video a standout. Thank you!
An additional factor: if you upgrade to a larger brake caliper, you will need spacers and longer bolts. My OEM Golf R wheels would not fit over the upgrade Stoptech Calipers. There’s always some hidden variable!
Love the time laps shots. Brilliant method of visualization of the difference.
I watched this video 3 times - now I'm a wheel expert. Very good video.
Under 10 minutes and straight to the point. Thanks
That ending made my day haha and the narration was on point. Really liking these little quick videos guys, keep it up!
Very helpful, didn't realise how confusing changing alloys could be!
Paul thank you so much, you literally saved me from getting the wrong set of wheels literally 10 mins ago!!!! And dont worry, i get you, wheels and rubber calms me down too!
Brilliant vid, thank you. Compulsory Viewing for VAG & All Car enthusiasts. Some Real Gold Ingot advice and knowledge in here. Excellent. Cheers DAP yet again👏
I love refreshers, and this was a refresher!
"There is something about wheels that calms me down" AMEN to that brother, agreed! Another great video, cheers dude :)
Love the OG MCM reference!!!
Sticks' MotorWerks haha I know right! 🇦🇺
Love the ending. Excellent video and great information. Thanks guys and Paul.
The RSE10 in bronze is probably my favorite wheel ever! Just looks so good. Ive been looking for a set of mk7 Austin wheels to put on my Mk6.5 GLI, I really like the way those wheels fit the design of the Jetta
Watched the whole video, and I don't even have Audi or VW, so informative and thorough!
LOL.... that ending was hilarious :) Cheers, Don, Perth W.Australia (Dons Shed and Xplor Overland)
Been looking at wheels for my alltrack... thank you for this video!!
I needed this video 5years ago!!! Thank you.
This is the best video, all perfectly explained, Great job !!! thank you DAP !
Great video! Loved that illustration between 18 & 19”
This video is so underrated. Nice work!
Love the video! Watched it a few times. Quick question - do you think a 225/35-19 will fit a mk7 GTI? What about with VWR lowering springs?
Nice explanation. For everyone’s safety, It should be mandatory viewing before a set of wheels can be purchased:)
Thank you! Exactly what I've been looking for 😎
I raised my VW Golf MK7 an inch over stock. I live in Idaho and having ground clearance is a good thing to have. I also tow trailers with it, so the stiffer rear spring prevents rear end sag. I am running 17 inch wheels and find the MK7 runs great at 130mph with no stability issues.
Monster truck height, stock heigh it already too high
Hahaha he is running an all track type set up :D
Love the bonus content at the end 😂😂😂 Great videos 👌
Great video! What method would you recommend is best for fender rolling on a VW?
Great vid.. I'm in the wheel pick struggle now....
Had no idea you guys were right in my backyard. Just got a mk6 gti and I just might need to look into going to the shop
Most easy to understand video ever
MAN! This video is so very helpful!!!!! THANK YOU!
Omg Best video offset EVER Finally Thank you guys.
PRAY FOR PAUL AND HIS HEADY WHEEL ADDICTION, WE LUV U FAM
Thank you sir for this informative and tastefully done video !
glad i found this, been looking at changing the wheels on my golf so they don't look like they are the wrong way around on one side (see diamond cut oem wheels in the video!) Still not sure what to go for....sticking with 18" though because no DCS in my car, plus it's firm enough as it is!
Love the ending, definitely subscribed 😂💪
Great video.... I like my wheels on my S3, would you recommend wheels spacers of 10mm just to bring them out just before the fender to give it that slightly fatter look? This is my only issue... never used spacers before and and like to keep my wheels and size...
Great video. You explained it so well
I would love a video like this on suspension!
Great video applicable to every make & model. The last wheel video I watched this good was from Engineering Explained. I have beautiful matt black Breyton GTSR wheels on my BMW E82. They're 225/40/18s.
They're 225/40/18s. Thats tire size, for rims it shuld be like r18 8j 35et or something.
That's pretty great, I now know what the weird numbers mean and how to look them up. Thanks!
Can't wait to get my new JR23 wheels for my B8 S4! On back order, custom ET35 offset and 9.5J. Gonna look very fat and fill the arches nicely with the 35mm Eibach Pro springs drop.
Thank you for the informatious video
this was really informative, thank you
I have a question: I recently bought a 2023 40th Gen GTI. I live in Chicago and will need to replace the stock summer performance tires with winter or all-season tires soon. I'm completely sold on the Michelin CrossClimate 2 tires, but they don't come in the exact dimensions I need. Stock is 235/35 R19 on my GTI, and the CrossClimates only come in 235/40 R19. I know the CrossClimates would slightly affect my speedometer reading, but would they fit in the wheel well and be ok otherwise? Is there a way to know in advance and do you have any experience or recommendations with going just slightly bigger than stock on a GTI or similar?
Technical and informative. I want my alltrack like yours! Ugh!
Thank you so much, so useful! So if I have 19x8.5 +35 stock wheels on my 2018 Audi A5 and I really like particular wheels which only come with +30 offset and the same other dimensions, do you think it's gonna be a good match? Is it a small enough difference to actually change the car behaviour or fitting the wheel wells?
Video was Very Informative
so informative thank you! saved me a lot of time
Grreatt video. What size rims would look nice on my vw tiguan 2015 ?
Awesome! Thanks Paul 🤘🏽
Alright great info thank you.recently back to the driving market with a way later year audi B7 A4.
I never knew bigger wheels throw off the speedo, great vid as always 🤙🏼
Only if you don’t use a thinner sidewall.
Excellent video
Thanks for the video dude but what are the coolest wheelz i can get?!!!!!???!!!!??!!
Great video, so informative
That MK5 golf in the background tho 😍
Thanks alot for this
Learned a lot thank you
Excellent tutorial. Please forgive my ignorance but could you tell me what wheels are on that black Audi TT?
Great stuff. Thanks.
Doesn't changing your offset with spacers increase loading on the suspension? I always thought that if you had to put spacers on (or: big brake kits) you had to compensate with a different wheel offset.
Can I upgrade the 205/55/16 on my 2021 vw golf TSI to 17” wheels? What specs would u recommend as well as the pros and cons Thank you 🙏🏻
So im pretty new to this, and my question would be: what are the acceptable tolerances between stock and aftermarket wheels when it comes to things like track width and overall diameter? I was trying to figure some of this stuff out yesterday, and one of the things i noticed was that even when speccing out a new S3 on Audi's website, the difference between their 225/40/18 wheels and their optional 235/35/19 wheels is a full 10mm diameter change. They also require that you spec the magnetic ride with the 19s, which leads me to believe that there's a bit more going on than simply bigger wheels - im guessing they've adjusted the ride height, and since a larger diameter package means less effective torque, are they changing gear ratios too? I was looking at how viable it would be to swap the standard 18 inch, 7.5j, 225 wheels out with 18 inch, 8j, 235s, but it doesn't seem quite as simple as i thought it would be.
nice explanation
Thanks needed this!
‘Just one more’ hahaha exxxcellent!
Thank you this is gonna help me to replace my 17 to 19 inch on A5 =D question: On time 2:55 what is 91Y on the wheels ?
What a great video 👍🏼
I run a 2002 Audi ALMS TT Quattro in autox. This year made the move from D Street to B Street Prepared. Wheel and tires are unlimited. I was thinking about going from the 17" wheels I ran in DS down to a 16" wheel. My thinking is to try and get weight reduction and a favorable engine to pavement gear ratio. The car is trailered/not street legal so I don't care about the speedo being off. Any recommendations on if this would be a good idea? If so, can a 16" wheel fit on a TTQ? And finally, if this is a good idea, what's the maximum offset to consider before the car's tracking negatively affects performance? Thanks!
Thank you very much for this
I have 17" rims from a 2006 audi avant and was wondering if I could use them as winter rims on my 2013 audi tt comp pkg 19" rims. Thank you
So what offset do you recommend for mk7 models? With a 18 x 8.5 wheel.
Is there a special name for the wheels allowing you to put say a box of matches onto the space between the outer edge of the wheel and its spokes?
Can’t believe how easy you made it to understand. I am looking for some new wheels for my Mk7 golf but don’t know where to start or where to look, I have some stock 15” wheels and would like to upgrade to 19. Can I just take my car to you and let you work on it?! 😅
Hey @deutscheAutoParts what is the make and name of the rim you are holding by the red car, 8.53 minutes into the video? I don’t see that one in your online shop.
Very useful , thanks!
Nice video! 👍
This guy's video awesome!!!
Man I wish I'd watched this video before buying aftermarket wheels. Had issues with not knowing about hub centering rings AND the different shapes of bolt seats.
Great vid! Can we get a mk7 tire review video?
Paul... You're pretty funny dude!! Keep up the great work
Good video ....s5 wheels can fit on audi a6???
That ending was priceless 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Amazing video!!!!
Great video.
Awesome video! Even though I knew most of the information already this is a must watch for anyone thinking about getting aftermarket rims.
You got that right......I learned from a young age that there is a lot to know about this stuff to get it right.
What is your feeling on stretched tires or skinny tires on wide wheels? I do not like it and it seems it would not be safe.
Will I rub with 235/45/18 with H&R springs? I’m aware that it’ll make it have a wider diameter. But I still have about a free finger fender gap.
Which one do u advise ? I am buying a dotz suzuka 18 for a golf 7.5 GTI ?
How do u correct the speedo? Putting a larger diameter tire on changes your final gear ratio just as it would if you had tires in a go kart ratio goes by tires clutch teeth and rear sprocket teeth same for a car
Nice... but what happened with the S2 VR?
Good info bro
Hi had a question is the hub size same for Volkswagen / Mercedes .. since using bigger wheels affect the car characteristics .. can you put 16' wheels in front and low profile 19" low profile rear wheels or would the car look like the 70's hot rods
